This is the real reason people should be pissed about the show. Disney will only make something because another studio did it and succeeded. They only create something with the intent to take away the audience from a competitor.

Fish Hooks was fine but the reason it worked was Uncle Sherm, who worked on Spongebob was picked up to help produce the show, and there for it wasn't going to copy Spongebob completely as a result.
What pisses me off with Disney is when they get these creatives (McCracken to make Wander) and then expect these talented people to just follow the formula that THEY want them to do. Both Owl House and Star Vs had great concepts that Disney just UTTERLY RUINED for their own agenda and then gave the series no support when the series needed to wrap up.
To make matters worse is when they give a creator complete control, he does something that pisses off nerds, and all you hear is the bad backlash, and then they have to find a director who'll just toe the line and follow orders. (ala The Last Jedi basically nerfing the star wars series).

That's hollywood. When you pitch a show you're effectively selling it to them, which usually means handing over creative control. There are rare instances where that isn't the case, like Ed edd n eddy, but you've gotta be a really good negotiator in an already good position to pull it off

Before the passive aggressive response from the VA, people were just having a laugh at the show's expense, and that is not a controversy. Doesn't even mean they won't watch it. But once the crew felt the need to defend themselves, that's when thing became confrontational and people started to dig in their heels.
No one should have responded, but they did, and did it poorly. These online kerfuffles are like Watergate, in that the coverup is worse than the initial crime. Disney should apologize to reset the conversation and move past this.
