It's disturbing how many short jokes they make about Jon Snow in seasons 7 and 8. It's nonstop. And they don't even say it once between seasons 1 and 6 as far as I remember. From season 7 they took all the short jokes about Tyrion and made them about Jon instead. Suddenly Jon's a dwarf whose height should be commented on or mocked at any opportunity.

Seriously though, what happened between season 4 and 5? Something greater than running out of source material must have happened - it's like they suddenly fundamentally forgot what the show was about. I seriously can't believe that they adapted 4 whole series astonishingly well - even adding their own scenes which were incredibly well received - and then overnight fricked it all up.
They admitted that they wanted to target women and sports fans as audiences, so they dumbed everything down tenfold.
show became really meta, lots of fan service. it was really really dumb and the main audience never caught on
It shocks me how only season 8 is considered bad. S5-S7 were critically acclaimed despite being utter dreck save for a very small handful of scenes.
im watching this right now, coming to the end of season 3, and the narrative itsself is great but holy shit does it ever feel like martin is trying way to hard to be edgy to the point where i feels forced, also the sex scenes are just too much. the show would have been much much better without either of these things
also seeing the show play out first hand, i dont understand how people were so surprised by denarys going crazy and getting killed, even as early as the first season its clear that she is becoming more and more violent and unhinged

She was the de facto girlboss character for people who watched it week to week. Women even cheered for Cersei when she does her worst acts just because she smiles smugly and drinks a glass of wine.
Kit Harrington was notoriously awful to work with at that time because he was an alcoholic, you can hear the other cast members joke about him showing up hungover all the time to set in reunions and stuff (Sophie Turner specifically calls him out on it), the lack of work since GoT despite being the biggest role next to Emilia also is a telltale sign he sucks, so I'm not surprised the writers started to rib him a bit toward the end
