Like I said, Toho is being wise on the business side of things. They are letting the Japanese films be the artisan projects aimed at older more hardcore movie fans while not costing much to produce, and there's also the big budget Hollywood movies that sell tons of tickets and toys. It makes a lot more sense than trying to have both the eastern and western arms of the Godzilla IP trying to do the same thing.
It's hard to imagine how they wouldn't feel a deep sense of shame, but these "people" are barely human. I really have no idea what they think, or if they are capable of shame.
Yeah, and it's still significantly better animated than the new shit. Godzilla has the weight, posture and momentum to him that a 120m brick shithouse of a theropod in a full sprint should have. Every step shakes the camera. Debris fly everywhere as streets are pulverized under his weight. His dorsal plates are pulsating with the power of a fresh nuclear bomb as a threat display towards Ghidorah. The shot is done from a low angle, with buildings, trees and aircraft to instill the proper sense of scale that a giant monster should have.
Now compare it to this. Godzilla comes up out of the ground (???) and almost immediately breaks into a run, which looks horrendously awkward on his build. The lack of time spent showing him building momentum from a standstill and the humanoid posture makes the shot look horribly weightless. There's nothing in frame to give these monsters any scale, they're just in some abstract cave full of crystals. It's just fricking ugly and bad.
This scene doesn't look good either. Notice how the camera does its best to avoid showing the monsters full body destroying the city while they charge. Because there wasn't any destruction being animated. Plus Godzilla moves stiff like a golem in this.
They've had an alliance since Godzilla vs Kong. They're fighting another evil giant ape and another giant lizard creature in this one.

I get the sense that, because Godzilla was so different from movie to movie throughout his history, the Legendary team don't know how to give him a character arc at all, or what it would look like. That's why I think Goji is completely without character or motivation for all these movies. It worked in 2014 when he was just a natural threat, but now that they are doing capeshit it makes no sense for Godzilla to just be doing these things for no reason.

I've noticed a recent surge in this mindset. Growing up on all the Godzilla forums like Kaijuphile and Rodan's Roost, people always ragged on the later Showa movies (except the Mecha G films) for being kiddy and goofy and praising Heisei's more grounded, serious tone. Recent years people have been criticizing the Heisei movies for being melodramatic beam wars and Showa was unappreciated turn your brain off fun.
It's posts like this that are incredibly disingenuous. In the west we didn't even have access to the Heisei films until the early 2000s. Biollante was the only movie you could rent and then Godzilla 2000 was actually in theaters. Yeah, and it's still significantly better animated than the new shit. Godzilla has the weight, posture and momentum to him that a 120m brick shithouse of a theropod in a full sprint should have. Every step shakes the camera. Debris fly everywhere as streets are pulverized under his weight. His dorsal plates are pulsating with the power of a fresh nuclear bomb as a threat display towards Ghidorah. The shot is done from a low angle, with buildings, trees and aircraft to instill the proper sense of scale that a giant monster should have.
Now compare it to this. Godzilla comes up out of the ground (???) and almost immediately breaks into a run, which looks horrendously awkward on his build. The lack of time spent showing him building momentum from a standstill and the humanoid posture makes the shot look horribly weightless. There's nothing in frame to give these monsters any scale, they're just in some abstract cave full of crystals. It's just fricking ugly and bad.

The thing on Kong's arm is clearly supposed to be some kind of human engineered arm brace, suggesting he is injured in his first battle with the new villain. The thing that gets me is that Godzilla receives top billing, but he is literally put on ice until the team up in the third act? What about his arc? Also, the final battle is going to take place in some hollow earth bullshit instead of a major metropolitan area? You're denying people one of the few pleasures of watching these movies: seeing massive collateral damage.

It's Kong becoming King, so yeah. Though seeing as how the trailer opens up on the pyramids, there's probably going to be some city smashing seeing as how there's a city within spitting distance.
I get the sense that, because Godzilla was so different from movie to movie throughout his history, the Legendary team don't know how to give him a character arc at all, or what it would look like. That's why I think Goji is completely without character or motivation for all these movies. It worked in 2014 when he was just a natural threat, but now that they are doing capeshit it makes no sense for Godzilla to just be doing these things for no reason.
One issue is Toho has 100% final say on Godzilla even with legendary licensing him out and they dont want him portrayed as anything less then kaiju super sayian always getting stronger.

It's literally just an anamorphic lens with really noticeable distortion and vignetting, shot close, most likely wide open or near wide open which often especially affects sharpness as well.

I've noticed a recent surge in this mindset. Growing up on all the Godzilla forums like Kaijuphile and Rodan's Roost, people always ragged on the later Showa movies (except the Mecha G films) for being kiddy and goofy and praising Heisei's more grounded, serious tone. Recent years people have been criticizing the Heisei movies for being melodramatic beam wars and Showa was unappreciated turn your brain off fun.
It's posts like this that are incredibly disingenuous. In the west we didn't even have access to the Heisei films until the early 2000s. Biollante was the only movie you could rent and then Godzilla 2000 was actually in theaters. If you want to pretend you're some mega gen x nerd that had access to hard coded subbed VHS tapes of the Heisei films, go right ahead, but Shows used to be all we had.
Most of the Heisei series was dubbed vhs by 98, with MechaGodzilla II through Destroyah released in 99.

Just got back from seeing Minus 1, it was great, on par with Shin Godzilla. Actually cared about the human story.
Only real criticism is some of the CGI on Godzilla himself was a little janky in some walking shots. But overall the effects were great as well.
And then I get home and see the trailer for what looks like Fortnite DLC: Monke upgrade. Holy frick, this looks terrible. It's gonna have the annoying amerimutt characters back again, plus they've decided to go full moron with this hollow earth premise. It just looks like a bad movie. Complete slop.
