It's interesting how so many "acclaimed" filmmakers suddenly lost the capability to make a good flick after the year 2000.

Why is that? Can't keep up? Never had talent?

Cronenberg made 3 consecutive movies in the 2010's that were absolute kino the leagues above what the rest of these hacks were doing.

Literally the one solitary person that has genuinely ever talked about those shit films on Cinemaphile is the Gadon chad

Cronrnberg is a pretentious homosexual who thought he was too good to be compared to Carpenter.

Cronenberg did interesting stuff back in the day before he became pretentious.

Videodrome, Rabid, Scanners, The Fly, Dead Zone

Existenz was ok, but here you could see him becoming more mundane in his filmmaking.

Eastern Promise, History of Violence are good movies, just has nothing of the visual and body horror edge that set Cronenberg apart back in the day.

Kekno. John Carpenter was a master at the practical craft of filmmaking, Cronenberg is a journeyman soap opera tier director who has some decent conceptual ideas and relies heavily on the talents of special effects artists to get them across. When was the last time you ever heard someone go “wow look at this shot from this Cronenberg movie”. As directors, they don’t compare in talent at all.

Genuinely interesting point OP. Even directors like Milos Forman who made the amazing Amadeus had flops after the year 2000. It’s like there’s a huge shift

History of Violence, Eastern Promises, and Crimes of the Future are solid post 2000 efforts from Cronenberg.
Same goes for several of Scorsese’s from the last 23 years.

Scorsese made The Aviator and The Departed in the 2000s, two of his best movies.
