You could have said that about Frasier after Cheers.

Yup. Frasier was an ensemble show at it's core. Kelsey Grammer is a funny guy but the Frasier Crane character is a straight man that needs someone to play off of. Both the Cheers and Frasier casts were fantastic and it's hard to imagine this revival would have the same strength.

I don't think you know what the word "straight man" means. Frasier and Niles were both the comedic characters in the show. They're basically caricatures of pompous wealthy sophisticated people. Martin was the straight man who gave humorous juxtapositon, while also keeping Niles and Frasier grounded, because without him they'd both disappear up their own asses in pure pretention.

Actually, it's a pretty good point. Frasier spent like 10 Seasons living in Boston, and he doesn't know how Celtics would be pronounced? It's kind of nitpicky, but come on.

To be fair, Frasier is a snobby, prissy, highly educated guy who likes the opera and theater. He doesn't care about sports, let alone know anything about them. Aside from one episode of Cheers where he gets dragged to a hocky game and enjoys it, he's never show giving a shit about sports to any capacity. Especially in the show Frasier, he is constantly at odds with his dad for loving sports when he doesn't. Niles and Frasier both viewed it as a chore anytime they'd get dragged to a game with Martin. Is it any wonder he wouldn't know or care enough bout the Celtics to know how their name is pronounced?

People can easily go their entire lives without knowing anything beyond merest surface details about sports.

Fine, fair enough. That aside, I thought his other complaints about the show seemed in-depth and well thought out, so we shall see.

24: Live Another Day was pretty good, and the revival of Red Dwarf was about as good as it was when it got cancelled (i.e. only okay, and nowhere near as good as it was at its peak). I wouldn't be surprised if that's the exhaustive list.

Frasier's father and his dog were the only worthwhile characters and they're both dead

      Anonymous

They weren’t the only worthwhile characters, but the show needed characters like that who were more grounded and blue collar to balance the show. It doesn’t have that anymore, instead of a charming show about a contrasts between working stiffs and academics, between high culture and low brow, and sons and their father trying to get along and support each other in spite of those differences, it’s now a show about Northeast smug clashing with Northwest smug and a son actively finding excuses to cut his mopey depressed out-of-touch father out of his life.

That’s not fun, that’s just obnoxious and sad.
