i was watching cable cartoons when i was a kid and i gotta say it fricking sucked, especially when compared to stuff like netflix which only needed an internet connection and a monthy subscription (which mind you was CHEAPER) and i could watch almost anything i want whenever i want wherever i want.

That's part of the plan. They can't sell commercials and ads to air-time marketed at kids.
If they make an 'adult' channel that airs family-level content that kids will watch on their own (but have plausible deniability that it's for kids) they can get the kid audiences to watch and become interested in their IPs (and buy merch) while still selling advertising as if it were to an older audience.
They're trying to have their cake and eat it too and can use the excuse 'times have changed' as to why something originally made for a younger audience is being marketed towards an older one without changing said content, but still have it be mostly acceptable. That's why you won't see any of the controversial CN stuff until late into the night (and why they're avoiding re-running certain series)

I have genuinely not seen anyone under the age of 50 be subscribed to cable. The only exceptions are some relatives living in the country who are forced to subscribe to a package deal just so they can have internet.
