Don't kid yourself. This is about their logo being on all that hitler shit.

        Anonymous

I’m just saying that if Disney was smart, they would’ve stole some of the “concepts” from the less offensive memes and make those into movies.

And yes, even the Hitler film would be better and probably more useful than Toy Story 5

Shit, does that mean they're coming after Judy Hopps and I can't make her be an actual cop anymore?

Probably not, they just don’t want their logos being generated anymore. There’s way too many Disney characters for Microsoft to blacklist.

          Anonymous

They're probably already got a warehouse of concept ideas and I've yet to see a single AI generated meme that's any kind of interesting or workable concept.

Anon, you and I both know this isn’t true. Disney spent most of it’s existence ripping off stories from European fairy-tales and American folk stories. And the creations they did make were from other artists Walt took credit for. Characters like Donald Duck and Goofy were only given personalities because of hardworking creators like Carl Barks. And the characters we all know and love are thanks to the Nine Old Men who put up with Walt’s bullshit and mediocrity

Disney is known for not having an original bone in their body. That’s why Pixar went to shit once they fully acquired them in 2006. Now they are only able to make endless sequels to Toy Story, Frozen and other slop that only white women with no personalities care about. Realistically, some middle schooler trying to create George Floyd in AI with a Pixar logo slapped onto it is probably much more of a creative than anybody writing Disney movies nowadays. And that’s really fricking depressing. While morons like this

            Based Disney, frick AIslop.

celebrate Disney taking action. Never forget that they are the reason nobody in America takes animation or art seriously and are only viewed as children’s entertainment. Oh and they also use AI themselves as well to push out the slop that bottom feeders like Yanks eat up endlessly.

I wish this fact was more commonly accepted. Watch any animated short drawn and animated by Walt himself. It's all boring, uninspired drivel about the same subjects. Every single one.

Walt was an abysmal artist, even in the 1920s. Even putting that aside, he only viewed himself as a businessman rather than an animator or designer. His “child” Mickey wasn’t even his, It was Ub Iwerks and was only created after they lost the rights to Oswald, another Iwerks creation.

By the time the 50s came, he pretty much ditched the animation field entirely to focus on ventures like the theme parks and his vision for a utopia that floundered horribly.

This is what happens when people are moronic. It doesn't matter who's fault it is if Microsoft's fault or not. If Microsoft can't control it's users. Disney will sue it and shut it down.

Seriously though, I've seen reactions to what were very obvious memes, and I can't believe how many people just blindly believed they were real movies no matter how crazy they were. I lost count of people swearing to boycott Disney forever for "making a terrible movie" that literally never existed. Only because the logo made them believe it was real and they needed further confirmation. No wonder why thousands of people get scammed every day if a logo is all it takes to convince them that something is legit.

But I thought that, legally speaking, no one owned AI generated images? How could they possibly sue Microsoft over something Microsoft doesn't own?

      Anonymous

Because Disney is powerful enough to call out AIs for doing exactly what they are doing, scrubbing and dissecting copywritten material for datapoints to recreate it with AI. That's what they risk being sued for, not the creation or existence of the images themselves.

Disney owes their logo. They can sue anyone using it without permission, and MS' AI can copy and does copy their logo on fake movie posters flawlessly.

This has nothing to do with the issue. It doesn't matter that ai art can't be trademarked. It's still using a trademark and possibly fooling people into thinking it's the real thing. That it bystander can look at something made by AI and be confused by it to think it's the original is enough to violate copyright. It's why fan games are C&D'd.

Artist properties and Disney properties are being used to train AI. Sure, Disney doesn't like their house style being used for other projects and racist memes because even if they change styles or had more variety they'd still be connected to what's being used and it will still be using their assets without permission but... yeah there doesn't need to be a but here. Disney sucks, but their argument can be the same as small time artists' but it doesn't have to be.
