Whyd he say it so weird?

Because the whole scene is fricking weird. How many times to you take a swoop of sand from the ground, taste it and confirm that it's definitely sand?

because it was a thinly veiled fourth wall break for them to basically tell the audience "see? we didn't copy ESB and hoth 1:1 cause its salt not snow"

If you could re-do the sequel trilogy, what would be a cool plot? I honestly think almost anything someone comes up with here would be better than what we got

The Empire comes back and people realise Sheev did nothing wrong

The story from those one books of a way worse genocidal alien race coming and people wanting the stability and military might of the empire and turning on the jedi WOULD be kino.

No. People just realise that Sheev did nothing wrong and got into power by completely legal means and the people's support

There's enough edgelord sci-fi shit as is. The Jedi are the good guys, end of story.

The problem with this trilogy is that there's no vision, like at all. It's like a freestyle rapper coming up with shit on the go. Anyone who cared anough would make a timelime of events to make three films.

not do a sequel, but a re-imagining. tying nu-wars to lucas' wars really hamstrung their ability to make new content, because all people want is characters/events that they're familiar with.

I don't know, I feel like there had been a lot of good will that had been built up that they could have leaned into that all audiences would have enjoyed. Think of how much people were glazing the spiderman movie with all the old ones in it. Why they're so adverse to fan service is beyond me. I will never get why they think appealing to an audience that doesn't exist is the way to go.

the biggest issue is that current lucasfilm discarded all the expanded lore built up over 30 years and in doing so completely cut off their ability to continue the story. so i think re-imagining the the entire franchise from the ground up would've given them room for growth and not be reliant on aging actors from the original series.

the sad part is that all the interesting ideas that would have worked better for a sequel trilogy were implied through flashbacks and and throwaway lines. Like starting off with Luke trying to make his jedi academy work and having kylo causing problems is more interesting than some desert rat that is good at everything.

      2000 years after ROTJ
The PT and OT are remembered as either religious or mythic in their galaxy, with Luke & Anakin being regarded as ancient religious figures.
After the fall of the empire the galaxy has been in shambles and not the interconnected galaxy we saw in previous movies
The protag is a new type of force user (sith-like) who slowly tries to unify the galaxy under a new force religion while politicians in each system attempt to stop him because jedi and sith caused the issues in previous eras.

Have Snoke be the bad guy and flesh him out properly. Make him the new darkside bad guy. He looked sinister in the force awakens. Have Luke be a respectable hero that saves the rebels. Just hit the same cliche good vs bad guys tropes and make it hopeful for kids. Then the third movie resolves everything. It really should not be that hard to frick it up.

Allegedly a script writer for this movie posted on Cinemaphile that the producers wanted clips of the movie to be applicable as meme responses on social media like twitter

So they explicitly wanted this scene to be a reaction gif
