Actually just finished it. The first half was mid but the second, although predictable, was very nice. This was definitely the most menacing Gojira. I liked how the three Japanese films (original, Shin, and Minus One) all use ingenious scientific techniques to defeat Gojira. Whereas, he's an "ally" in the American ones.

It was boring as hell. The whole idea of repackaging the genesis of Goji from nuclear weapons to nuclear catastrophe is neat. I did think that was super contrived but it really was the only way to end it and keep it in line with the theme. "Is your war finally over?" was a kino way to end it. You can always choose to interpret it as he actually died in the plane and everything after was the dream of a dying man. They set that up earlier in the movie.

Tbf I don't care about Godzilla, I watched Shin and Minus one. Shin was interesting, not the best thing in the world but fun. Minus-one was too japanese, too sappy, too diluted in drama shit. I don't care about zillatism, the ost, the anime references, it's irrelevant and akin to pointing flaws in the lore in the Fallout tv show. Either the movie holds on its own or it doesn't, the quality of the nods, member berries and general pandering to fans are irrelevant. It's a good film or it's not a good film. Shin is ok, Minus one is bad.

I recently watched both Godzilla Minus One and Shin Godzilla and preferred the later.
GM1 had a actual story behind it while SG was just Godzilla smashing stuff while a bunch of government ministers sat around talking about it, though I will admit I gave up on SG probably half way thru as the subtitles were shit and full of inaccuracies and flat-out nonsensical most of the time.
