CRTs required a ton of precision engineering and semi-rare minerals. the reason panels took off so fast is because they were considerably easier to make and are all common crap.
If there was any profit to be made with CRTs, NEC would still make them
Alas a handful of contrarian morons on Cinemaphile and in this thread is not a sufficient market for viability
CRTs were shit for watching movies on. Everything was either cropped or letterboxed and the resolution and color accuracy was garbage compared to film. They’re only good for old video games because those games were specifically designed around the constraints of the technology.
I'll never go back to CRT because it causes eye strain. I worked as a graphic artist and have used it for years until I switched to IPS which is the only cheap monitor that has deep blacks and accurate colors.
retro gaming really is the most reddit thing ever. glad I was born in an era where everything was much more convenient and I didn't have to squint on a 10 inch screen to see my 5 pixels.
I've got a nice big PVM, I only really bust it out for light gun titles and PS2 games these days. Everything else, I just use retroarch with CRT shaders. Looks almost as good, and it's less hassle.
CRTs are pretty good for video games sure but the stuff we have now to watch TV shows and movies are easily superior. Its why everybody in this thread are posting people playing video games on CRTs instead of movies playing on CRTs.
literal cartels killed CRTs. They even got fined by the EU for €1.5 billion. Frick those israelites.

only zoomers think they were good. couldn't even mount them on a wall and you needed a big ugly cabinet to put any tv of size in along with your virgin alert VHS tapes. and the glow they gave off was depressing and made you want to have a nice day at night.
i miss the 90's and i want to go back.
This. Also I mean I'd they brought back overpriced vinyl turntables why can't someone make some small CRTs?
Also porn on CRT was awesome.
crts are more complicated/difficult to fabricate than a turning plate and a needle
And? Not my problem.
Yeah these showed up right when LCD started to get pushed more. Also Japan already had high definition CRTs in the 80s.
>And?
you wanted to know why no one is building boutique CRTs. because shit was only economically viable at scale.
shitty vinyl technology is the simplest thing in the world to manufacture
do it yourself and market it to soibois and people suffering from nostalgia cancer. you could probably make that profitable.

There are still millions of functional CRTs out there
*billions
Yea porn on CRT looked a lot more lifelike i wonder why that is. I wish they made hd crts that don't weigh and cost a ton
you don't even remember the 90s homosexual
we still used crt in the 2000s btw
I used my CRT and VCR up to like 2011 still
I really wanted to hold on to my big sony crt but it just took too much space in the garage 🙁

Widescreen HD CRTs were a thing but flatscreens took over before they got popular
I had one of these HD CRTs and boy was that motherfricker heavy. Was such a relief to not look at tiny text on Dead Rising though. Great times.
are you the fat guy in the reflection?
>are you the fat guy
4 U
Nope. Google Images.
I miss speakers on the front of TVs. Nowadays they're hidden in the back and audio sounds weird because of it.
the audio sounds weird because they're the cheapest shittiest speakers possible
It's also thin to fit the TV. But it would sound better if it were on the front.
You now remember that a lot of mid- & low-end CRTs had speakers that would make the case itself rattle when they were turned up an appreciable amount
as it should
as opposed to panels, where the speakers vibrate the case by existing?
Never had that problem
you have, you just don't know what you're hearing.
I don't think so
>Everything was either cropped or letterboxed and the resolution and color accuracy was garbage compared to film.
soul
yeah we should all have tvs as heavy as a goddamned anvil
>t. noodle arms
post the chad guy with two 40" crts under his arms
TVs don't get moved that much. Maybe once a year, if you're doing spring/fall cleaning. Maybe.
do u think u could buy enough of them and make a fort with all the screens pointing inside
OH MY GOD IS THAT A RETERO VEEDEOGAYM ON A SEEARTEA TEEVEE OH MY GOD IM GOING TOS TO SOOIIIIFFFAAAYYYYCCC

I have one of those Commodore monitors
SOUL
I always liked vertical CD players where you could see the CD spinning
Is that fricking rat shit?
pffft enjoy your spiders and palmetto bugs.
Spiders are bros
>slim PS2
Fricking ruined.
Honest, the slim PS2 was what you gave your 4 year old cousin who couldn't be trusted with anything expensive.
retro gaming really is the most reddit thing ever. glad I was born in an era where everything was much more convenient and I didn't have to squint on a 10 inch screen to see my 5 pixels.
frick off.
Frick off, zoomer scum.
he's right.
nostalgia is the refuge of the maladjusted.

CRTs were genuine dogshit, I don't miss them one bit.

Projectors were always better than tvs for mooovies
I honestly believe 4:3 is the better format. Also that CRT looks better.
LCD has its place for space saving/portability
4:3 is the most kino aspect ratio
16:10 is better
>ywn again watch late showings of Emanuelle In Space on the Sci Fi channel with the volume set at 0 on your old black box CRT TV
anyone know where i can get a big wood tv like pic related?
They're called console televisions if you're looking for one. I'd try estate sales
did this guy seriously buy 3 copies of fromsoft kusoge? is the third one to "spread the gospel"?

I remember fighting it tooth and claws till I finally had to give in. And damn, most of the lcd monitors looked like utter shit back then.
those were the days
only zoomers think they were good. couldn't even mount them on a wall and you needed a big ugly cabinet to put any tv of size in along with your virgin alert VHS tapes. and the glow they gave off was depressing and made you want to have a nice day at night.
>couldn't even mount them on a wall
wat. I always preferred having TVs on a cabinet anyway.
yeah if you had a poverty tv set and didn't mind the place looking like a hospital room that was fine
I swear you could get them for like 32 inch TVs as well, they weren't limited to hospital TVs
who the frick would mount a 15 inch tv in their room. moron.
because you need a bachelors in structural engineering for any hope in mounting a 28"
Yeah but I'm the perfect bachelor to mount your mom on my 28'.
I barely see them at goodwills now. I wanted an HD crt for my old nintendos and PS1 and hook up my VCR to watch Top Gun.
Playing the Warriors game on a hueg crt right ow and it is ultra-kino.
It's an inferior product by every standard. You don't love CRT's you love the nostalgia of CRT's.
They have significantly less input delay, so they are better for playing video games
