I watch mine on a modern computer with Windows 10.
I'm pretty sure as long as it's not a euro or japanese DVD player they will still work. the discs are probably region locked. idk if it's standard for optical drives to bypass that or if it's still a problem.
I still don't get this scene. >We don't have anything that can get through the main gate! >Let's use the giant battering ram we specifically built for this purpose and brought over here with great difficulty. >Oh yea, I forgot about that one.
GROND previously was just used for moral support. Nothing better to get you fired up than yelling GROND with all your orc bros. The fact that it also serves as a battering ram was a nice bonus.
Even if we didn't have everything else Tolkien wrote, that name alone is testament to how seriously the man took his work. Anyone else would have looked at that name and never committed it to writing, but not Tolkien. He was in so deep with his fictional language that it never crossed his mind that it might look a bit off.
>tfw they show the extended editions at the local kinoplex at the end of the year
One movie each day. I'm off work so I hope a mate will tag along. I'll probably go alone otherwise.
I'm actually going to watch the Theatrical Cuts as well this year. Evert time I go to rewatch I get through Fellowship EE and it's awesome, but then I get get bored ~45 minutes into TT EE and stop watching.
it's a bit of an awkward conclusion so I can understand why it was left out but I agree that excluding the conclusion to the arc of such a pivotal character like that is odd
you're right but there is some scenes that should have been left. best scenario is remove the dumb shit (like aragorn killing mouth of sauron) and make a new cut.
Look for Dr. Dre's 4k upscale of the EE blu... color corrected and with better detail than the DNR mess of the 4k editions. Only the first half is finished so far, but damn, it looks good.
I genuinely like the regular editions more than the extended ones.
If I'm sick and stuck at home, I'll chew through the extended editions and the special features, but I genuinely think that the shorter versions make for better movies.
>but I genuinely think that the shorter versions make for better movies.
I agree mostly. EE is good periodically when you feel like chewing on something more, but the theatricals flow better.
TT and ROTK have a lot of action that appeals to children but doesn't impress now that CGI is everywhere. FotR is more character-focused and didn't age as much.
they have pacing issues but they are better than great, so many awesome moments. >last march of the ents >the horn of helm hammerhand shall sound in the deep, one last time >"theoden king stands alone." >"not alone." >Sam's monologue to frodo about the stories that really mattered >the beacons of Gondor scene >gandalf driving off the nazgul during the osgiliath retreat >charge of the rohirrim >aragorn's "for frodo" >"i can't carry it for you, but i can carry you." >reunion in rivendell >"you bow to no one"
these are the moments that make the trilogy what it is. fellowship has always been the best but towers and return 'aren't great'? have you people lost your minds?
I rewatched them a few years ago and honestly wish I didn't. ROTK is legit bad, should have just stuck to rewatching individual scenes in YouTube. You could tell half the cast had checked out after fellowship and Jackson was already sleepdirecting.
>cute >humble >no visible tats >soft angelic voice >feminine
Was this the last era of good looking actresses? Modern Hollywood looks like shit now. Might as well have every female character played by a man.
i have these steel case blu rays ive never actually looked into their quality in comparison to other. are these good or bad lighting? i havent watched them from these discs in a while.
>sources close to the production said that Jackson had never actually read the books, and some doubted that he even understood what the original story was about, relying on filling in the notes provided by his wife with action, humour and blockbuster tropes
Why does Hollywood keep doing this?
They keep doing it because people keep giving them money. If someone paid me money to be an butthole I'd be one all the time. Saying "noooooo stop it!" as you hand over money is useless.
Another issue is Hollywood writers don't want to make remakes or reboots. They want to make their own movies, but the suits up top demand they use a known IP thinking it'll keep making big money. Granted, the movies they want to make are shit anyway. But they won't recognize that. They won't blame them making movies in a given franchise very differently. They'll just blame any number of other factors. So they'll keep tearing through franchises looking for success, the writers will keep veering far away from the source material until it's not recognizable, and then just go down the line killing every franchise.
These are fantastic looking box sets, so evocative and fit the tone of the movies so well. The Blu-Rays look like junk in comparison because they insisted on packing the discs in those cheap plastic cases. There's absolutely no 'love' involved in that set.
GROND
do you even know it's the 20 year anniversary of Return of the King?
Do the SE's still work in DVD players?
Not sure if my DVD crapped out, but my discs are in good condition.
V:10
A:9
Thanks Yiffy!
>not having to change discs in the middle of the movie
It's just not the same
>not having to change the VHS tapes in the middle of a movie
ftfy
I'm surprised they're only 2 tapes each.
And somehow they couldn't fit each one on a DVD. Dumbass gen x fricks.
Preach it sister
>Actually watching the movies instead of imagining them
Some people.
I watch mine on a modern computer with Windows 10.
I'm pretty sure as long as it's not a euro or japanese DVD player they will still work. the discs are probably region locked. idk if it's standard for optical drives to bypass that or if it's still a problem.
what's wrong with euro?
I still don't get this scene.
>We don't have anything that can get through the main gate!

Teleporno.

My mum is Galadriel?

You can't go alone, but I can carry you!
I'm just gonna say it
The extended editions of TT and ROTK are just not good
You moron
Lel

>Evert time I go to rewatch I get through Fellowship EE
They could make a 5 hour cut with 2 hours spent in the shire and it would still be awesome.
I like the boromir scene in TTT but there's literally no good additions in ROTK
Knowing what happens to Saruman maybe. In theatrical Isengard is cut completely and Saruman's fate is never mentioned
it's a bit of an awkward conclusion so I can understand why it was left out but I agree that excluding the conclusion to the arc of such a pivotal character like that is odd
you're right but there is some scenes that should have been left. best scenario is remove the dumb shit (like aragorn killing mouth of sauron) and make a new cut.
I agree. I get bored of extended fight scenes, but I really enjoy the character moments.
Ent Draft scene is great
I've been saying it for years. Extendeds are good for one or two viewings but the theatrical cuts just flow so much better.
KATMUDA
you can get a GRRRRRGGGGhHHHhH
Let us go through the Mines of Moria
What's a mine Gimli?
Why did they have to frick with all the HD releases so much? This box set is still the definitive way to watch LOTR
what did they do? color grading and shit?
Exactly
Look for Dr. Dre's 4k upscale of the EE blu... color corrected and with better detail than the DNR mess of the 4k editions. Only the first half is finished so far, but damn, it looks good.
They fixed everything on the 4k blu ray and it has dolby vision hdr. Watching it on any other format is moronic at this point.
>They fixed everything on the 4k blu ray
they did not you scum. smeary DNR everywhere and revisionist editing
>revisionist editing
what was changed?
The 4k release is awful. Still so much blue and orange all the time
I genuinely like the regular editions more than the extended ones.
If I'm sick and stuck at home, I'll chew through the extended editions and the special features, but I genuinely think that the shorter versions make for better movies.

Grond calls the shots here. That gate is Green-lit. Verification not required..
>I'll keep the ring full of sorrow
>I'll keep the ring till I die
All these movies meant a lot to me as a kid but TT and ROTK are hard to sit through as an adult. They are really not great not gonna lie.
Yeah I can't remember the last time I watched those two in their entirety, meanwhile I watch Fellowship every year.
TT and ROTK have a lot of action that appeals to children but doesn't impress now that CGI is everywhere. FotR is more character-focused and didn't age as much.

this. fellowship is my favorite but they are all incredible movies.

the map is amazing, and everything else is terrible. questing around Bree and exploring the old forest/finding tom bombadil's house was so much fun

IM BLUE DA BA DEE DA BA DA
can't you tell green from blue?
We've had one colour correction, yes. But what about tint?
hearing Liv Tyler speak Sindarin makes my pp tingle

These flicks are cringe
Literally Capeshit tier

Theatrical has better pacing.
>sources close to the production said that Jackson had never actually read the books, and some doubted that he even understood what the original story was about, relying on filling in the notes provided by his wife with action, humour and blockbuster tropes
Why does Hollywood keep doing this?
So his wife made these movies? No wonder the hobbit stunk
Yes and his wife was the reason for all the feminism

I still watch my original pre box set dvds that I got individually
