I havent watched a trailer or read a "critique" in a decade for small films/unknown projects. I like the actor and I read that he was making "Get Out".
I watched it and was honestly disappointed by the film. It wasnt scary, it wasnt "deep", it didnt have any memorable scenes/performances. Its just a meh concept film.
Then find out that this film is getting rave reviews. Its "the best horror film in years". "What an amazing directorial debut" for that guy that makes the unfunny youtube clips.
It truly is shocking how mediocrity is celebrated in the attempt to promote a black director who has no talent.
It's not a good movie in any way and is made by the most overrated director in cinema history

Peele can't write a twist to save his life, because he's not intelligent enough to assume the audience will pick up on subtle hints and instead front loads every "twist" to the point that you would think it's a red herring with a smarter filmmaker.

I'm not even white. I'm totally detached from 90% of movies this board talks about or watches. Get Out just sucks. It was sold as a horror comedy. It had no humor. It had no horror. The acting was bad. The writing was bad. Jordan Peele literally has a character press play on a VCR to show the main homosexual a movie explaining the plot. This is like the directorial equivalent of filming your own anus.

It was just not funny or scary.
I think what stuck out the most for me was that it seemed like they were enslaving Black folks, which makes sense for the slavery allegory, but the n there is an instructional video explaining they are also living in the Black folks. Why this needless, inelegant complexity?
