Yeah, cry about it. South Park was great for at least 12 seasons and then good for another 5. And the rest of it is pretty watchable, even. Maybe not the last season or two, though.
Golden Age Simpsons was fantastic and very close to the peak of South Park but personally I think South Park was better.
The older I get, the more I've come to appreciate Simpsons and see it as the highest peak. When I was a teen, I thought Futurama was much better in every way. It was actually just tighter and had the benefit of cancellation to protect its integrity. We then saw what happened when it escaped its fate. I was also really into South Park then, and it was still in its golden years. Now, though, I truly understand the Simpsons's appeal. It just had heart. The Marge and Bart episodes are among its best episodes.
I'll always have a soft spot for the South Park movie, though.
That's fair. I have admittedly not watched every single episode of s1-8 of the Simpsons. I've seen every SP episode at least 3-4 times from seasons 1 - 11. So I'm a bit biased. Simpsons has some fantastic episodes with great writing that SP can't really measure up to, but for pure humor SP wins for me.

Simpsons had the highest peak and greatest downfall. KotH has been the most consistent. Best overall is probably South Park. Family Guy just sucks, simple as.
Even though Family Guy is more popular and influential, I think it should really be swapped with American Dad. They're both very similar, but I think most people can agree American Dad is at least an entire letter grade above Family Guy and would make this discussion more interesting as a result.
Family Guy is on there purely for the first few seasons which ironically had the same writers who created American Dad. Other than that American Dad completely shits all over it.
Family Guy is on there purely for the first few seasons which ironically had the same writers who created American Dad. Other than that American Dad completely shits all over it.
I'd say American Dad has more good seasons than all of the other shows. Probably not as many highs as koth or Simpsons tho
>Simpsons had the highest peak and greatest downfall

Fair. >Best overall is probably South Park
oof, I have no idea how you could say this after watching the later seasons >Family Guy just sucks, simple as.
big oof. I'd have picked Family Guy for most consistent actually. It doesn't reach the same highs as the Simpsons, but it also never sinks as low. Just a fun show with lots of cheap but enjoyable gags. Relatively little progressive virtue signaling until the later seasons, but still low enough to ignore without ruining the show
I still think one of my favourite episode-specific recurring gags was Mr. Burns thinking Homer was some incorruptible iron-willed tactical and strategic genius in Last Exit
Family Guy is an ok show, just not in the same league as prime Simpsons/KOTH/South Park.
That said, I would rather watch a recent Family Guy episode than modern Simpsons.
>Highest peak
Without a shadow of a doubt the Simpsons >Most consistent

as much as I prefer the first 4 season of Family guy over all of them I would say KOTH or Simpsons
south park is just the best. it keeps telling truths. even now when they are 50 they are poignant but people are morons and don't get it; e.g. /misc/acks pretending the 'karen' joke was cringe was ..cringe; it was about them being karens lol.
The first cutoff if you want every episode to be good is the end of season 7.
If you're ok with experimental mixed bag eps, you watch 8.
If you don't care about characters at all and just want funny gags you stop at 11.
If you have a tolerance for inane celebrity guest stars and terrible plots but still find it funny you can keep going until season 13-14.
If you have a really high tolerance to garbage tv you keep going until season 20 when the movie released.
No matter how much garbage you can endure you do not ever go past season 20.
I realize this is likely a very unpopular opinion, but I think Treehouse of Horror episodes tend to be strong enough that you can watch post-season 20. Just those ones those
At some point they should have stopped with the regular seasons and just make 2 or 3 specials every year (Halloween special aka Treehouse of Horror, Christmas special, etc)
As others have said, probably season 8 if you want to end on a high note.
I can usually make it through season 10 before I get too saddened at the decline in quality to continue.
6 is the last great season 7-8 are pretty good but not quite the same quality as the first six ( yes season 1 & 2 belong apart of the golden years unironically 2 is the best season)
Season 1 was super comfy, groundbreaking for the time, and had a lot of SOVL.
The show still had to find its real voice and of course the following seasons are better, but it was still awesome. You had to be there, I guess.
7 is the beginning of the decline, but still very good
in 8 the decline is even more evident, but it's still a pretty good season on average
9 is 50/50: half pretty good, half mediocre at best
10 is the official beginning of zombie Simpsons
12 is the last watchable season
~20 is the last bad-but-not-offensively-bad season
Simpsons and KOTH are both great but Xaiver Renegade Angel is a better and more complex social satire than South Park. And Futurama is a better simpsons clone than Family Guy

Consistent is koth it knew what it was from day one and never pretended to be anything else.
Best overall ill get hate for this but my vote is southpark. Its just been a fun run and its something i can rewatch. Sure each season has a couple garbage episodes but there are enough of them that i get constant value from a re watch. Problem with koth is if ive seen it i know how it ends so that lowers rewatch value as its more based on reality.
Family guy had 3 good seasons its over. Some stoners bought some dvds and then they made a thousand episodes of garbage. If you dont want to stick to a plot thats fine but dont open up with a plot then do side gags.

Simpsons S1-7 was unmatched, but South Park ran for 15 years without ever becoming bad, and then ran another 5 years of mediocrity, then went bad, and is back to being mediocre again.
The simpsons has been a trainwreck for almost 20 years now. Family guy was never good.
>Family guy was never good.
I liked the first 3 seasons but I've never rewatched them past the couple of years I discovered them in because I have a feeling you're right.
Early simpsons shits all over the rest easily, it's not even a contest. South Park had a special place in pop culture during the 90s/early 2000s but they need to hang up the hat already. Family Guy has always been bad but I definitely found it funny as a teenager, I don't think I've ever laughed at KOTH though >But you didn't answer OPs questions!

Yeah, I'd give 'Most Consistent' to KotH.
I used to casually watch King of the Hill in syndication, but never got a feel for which season an episode was from.
Several years ago, I found the first season on dvd, and upon watching it, realized a lot of REALLY GOOD episodes were actually in the first season.
See, with the Simpsons the first and second seasons are kind of shaky; it's only by third that they reached their stride, so I assumed the same of KotH? Like, without looking at an episode guide, I would have said that the Boggle Championship episode was maybe season three, or four; I was surprised to see it was in the first.
Yeah, I'm always surprised with King of the Hill to see so many really good episodes early in. Usually it takes a show a few seasons to find its stride.
The only other one I can think of that was similar was Bob's Burgers, the first 3-4 seasons are great and then it started going downhill into being a kid show with too much singing.
