Right because there's no superfluous kids in the world and so many extra chimpanzees.

Same. While I do agree that the show did bring the Lich back one too many times in the later seasons his final moments were cathartic as hell.

      Anonymous

Really thought he was a force of nature, but to find out that he simps for golb is just like seeing that he's a giant nerd, I respect the dedication to entropy and that meaning that the world always goes on, I don't rescpect that he was a scholar of someone else.

        Anonymous

I'm one of the edgelords, but he's a good symbolic representation of the left hand path of magical thinking, sort of like death and decay and destruction, but in reality it means that the world machine moves onward, I liked him because of his finality as a creeping, snail like force of death that was like a Keltic metaphor.

Dude, he started off as a by-the-books interpretation of a lich from D&D (the game that AT takes a ton of inspiration from). Him being an evil skeleton wizard that worships a Lovecraftian entity is completely faithful to his character

You misinterpreted and misremembered the show. If you genuinely ever thought that Lich was a mindless machine who only follows his programming and shuts off when he cant, that's on you.
He's always been as human as Finn.

If we are talking about worst as in most embarrassing (and not worst for the actual character's circumstances in universe) then OP literally chose the least worse defeat for the Lich
      >Killed by a sweater
      >Turned into a fat moron baby
      >Stabbed by a fat moron baby
      >Stepped on and tossed into void when trying to give an edgy speech

        >then OP literally chose the least worse defeat for the Lich
In OP's defense, what lead to the Lich getting Tetris'd was the most embarassing for his character.
        >Lost all motivation after winning
        >Begged big daddy Golb to give him purpose
        >while on his hands and knees with his legs spread
Getting stomped on like a goomba is a close second though.

I mean, it feels a very zoomer-ish interpretation of his character. I thought it was very fitting for an evil character that dedicated itself to destroying all life found an empty meaninglessness after achieving his goal, and when getting the chance to confront the god that literally represents destruction and chaos, he demands to know why living an existence dedicated to the thing the god represented ended in him being so miserable, only for said god to then destroy him as well. The Lich should suffer this way based on his choices, it's a very fitting end for him and "Lol pathetic simp daddy golb teris'd lololol" is literally zoomerspeak being used to downplay a fitting and thematic end to an evil character. You can apply it to pretty much any media and make it sound stupid. Think about the story arcs of some of your favorite and iconic villains, and now reword them in the same way people have been wording the Lich's defeat. It'll have a similar effect.

No guarantee that being turned into a block made the Lich dead, he's immortal and likely still conscious after being transmuted.

        >possesses bubblegum and ends up jobbing to ice kings magic
        >kills an old billy only by getting the drop on him
        >for some reason he has Finn and jake get all the gems for him even though he could’ve done most of that himself after dismissing Finn’s cosmic dream
        >gets everything he wants and gets depressed and after a decade is cubed

        >has one speech and then is turned into fat moron baby man

That's because Finn is like one of incarnations of the Catalyst Comet that the Lich was originally of. They're fated to do battle. Jake just has an insanely useful powerset.

              Finn

                >talented in magic, magical destiny
Thats something I find pretty interesting. The show has a lot of episodes where Finn unlocks some magical abilities, like with the Astral arm, Astral projection, and Astral Beast a lot of astral shit when I think about it. But he always looses them by the end, or just doesn't use them again for whatever reason. I wonder if thats because Magic in AT is tied to madness and sadness, and as a generally optimistic and well put together person, Finn isn't able to tap into his potent magic energy with any sort of reliability. It would be cool to see an AU with some sort of Wizard Finn who has fully embraces his magic side, at the cost of his sanity.

in most of those cases He was usually in a fricked mindset. Like the arm he literally was just building a tower to outer space and destroying his body in the process. He literally lost it as soon as he beat his dad to the point he thought he killed him

Finn really either is so strong he isn't allowed to have them or they are always in his arsenal and he doesn't use them to have a better fight.

                >Finn's body count?
                Zero, unless we're talking kills!

Can we stop pretending "getting turned into a baby" was lame? It was one of the most gory and coolest scenes in Adventure Time and technically, he wasn't turned into shit but rather sealed as he's still alive within Sweet P and could very well be unleashed should he die. A very cool defeat after the Lich has been nothing but an awesomely scary force throughout the two-parter.

          Anonymous

Yeah, the scene was cool, but becoming a fat moronic baby wasn't. Same logic applies to being torn apart and remade as the Golb cubes, only that the Golb cubes are kinda mysterious and by default are naturally cooler than a fat moron baby.

Man Sweet P's life must be a nightmare too. Constantly having lucid dreams about the Lich and being taken over by him in at least one instance, such a cool contrast to his innocent behavior.
I wonder how he deals with that in the future episode, he also seems to be a hero by then.

            Anonymous

Sweet P's will is so dominant that the Lich can't gain a foothold. Even when he was a little kid it took a ton of brainwashing and the kid still snapped out of it and slew the monster. The Lich attempting to brainwash Adult Sweet P must be like facing Hellstar Remina.

I really miss Ludo and the monsters being an episodic comedy take on Skeletor and his minions from the first season. None of that shit needed to turn into deep lore and racism allegory.

Ludo was rightly retired by season 3 anyway since there was fricking nothing left to ruin about him.

This was the OG Lich that got sent into an alternate universe as a result of his wish just like Finn when he got sent to Farmworld. The version of Finn and Lich you see as a result of Jake's wish undoing everything are "copies" with all the same memories of S1-4 up to when the Lich made his wish

He did technically win, it just wasn't the victory he imagined it would be. Turns out the embodiment of chaos doesn't like a universe where there's no living thing to cause chaos or disorder with. The Lich's barren wasteland of a universe is as orderly as it gets.

I don't understand the Lich death hate. He's evil, he dedicated his existence to killing billions of innocent people. His endgame was always going to be defeat via cosmic irony. Did you think the show was just going to endorse omnicide or something?

But GOLB isn't just some random goober, its more like if Darth Vader meet the physical embodiment of the Dark Side. The Lich's defeat isn't the problem, its mostly just how they handled Golb as some out of nowhere final boss, instead of a constantly looming threat built up over the show.

This is the same series where an attempted murderer's punishment was having some marshmallows thrown at them

Does that time where he ate a bunch of gruel for a challenge count?

Imagine a narrative where the lich's cause is justified and he exposes finn to the puppetmaster dykes who have been ruling the narrative all along

Imposter Syndrome, essentially. Same reason why Fern turns on Finn. Oropo's race came into existence as a result of Yugo's poor handling of the Primordial Dofus, temporally cloning himself and scatting the clones throughout history. The clones all banded together and called themselves Eliotropes (with an o), to differentiate themselves from Yugo's original race, Eliatropes (with an a). The Eliotropes worshiped Yugo, but when they died their power and memories would be redistributed to the remaining ones, Highlander-style.

By the time Oropo caught up to Yugo he was the last Eliotrope left. He resented Yugo as his race's "god" who didn't care for his subjects (Yugo didn't know they existed), still possessed Yugo's love for Amalia, and sought to fix the mistake by killing Yugo and replacing him, so he could be a better Yugo than the original ever could.

Oropo kissed Amalia partially because he bore Yugo's love for Amalia, and partially to mindbreak Yugo, so he could invade his body and kill Yugo's mind within itself. Amalia herself didn't realize the truth at the time and thought Oropo WAS an adult Yugo, who traveled through time so he could be with her and not be hung up on his slow physical aging. When she understood the truth she attacked Oropo for deceiving her and returned to Yugo on the spot.

    Okay what about this:
    >the Lich prays to Golb
    >he doesn’t go on a monologue about his motivations but instead simply repeats to Golb that he has completed his mission in between muttering esoteric prayers
    >throughout the scene, rather than being depressed, he becomes increasingly angry as Golb refuses to acknowledge him (he still slams the Tetris shape and rips his skin off)
    >the scene still ends with him yelling “what do you want from me now”
    >Golb then Tetris blocks the Lich
    Would it have been better?

No, because people would still complain about it. The Lich having depression over realising that his purpose brought him nothing is a much more interesting end for his character

That is better, it makes him less whiny
I'd prefer if he just kept praying and got Tetris as he prayed. It's more fun to have literally no idea what happened.

You know, the Lich's goal was contradictory in itself, he wanted the death of every living being to please chaos, but in doing so he forced a new order.
