Why are these cartoonists acting like fans were the ones having a meltdown and not random California artists desperately trying to convince the public it was a good show and worth watching when it comes out because "my friend worked on it" while doubling down on saying that audiences are moronic?

Because fans WERE the ones having a meltdown.

So were the people working on it.

Both sides were and it was annoying and embarrassing.

I don't think fans were having a metldown until the cartoonists were. Most of the comments were, "What the frick? It's just TTG AGAIN. These reboots fricking suck", which is barely a meltdown. It wasn't until clickbait of, "OUTRAGED FANS PROTEST THUNDERCATS ROAR" did we see artists on Twitter saying that people are morons and hour long essay videos, "Why Thundercats Roar will fail!".

So moronic. Almost all Dangermouse fans are girls, if the reboot was truly British it would've known that. My mum loves Dangermouse, dad on the other hand never cared that much. Same with all my friends growing up, it was mostly the girls who watched the show and had the figures, keychains etc. The modern fandom is clearly majority female, but oh whoops, they pretentiously blew their load in the first series so they didn't have time to figure that out.

A bottom-of-the-barrel insult. Also for some reason fat guys aren't included when it comes to current day body positivity (unless they're gay or trans). People are easing up on insulting others for their life situations/appearances but "you're fat and live in your parents' basement" is still a go-to. >fat guys aren't included when it comes to current day body positivity
Is this why there's no female rep when it comes to crazy obsessive fans?

          Anonymous

Well a crazy obsessive fan doesn't have to be fat, that's the obvious thing. But also more lately there's more of a "you can't make fun of women" thing (remember when feminists tried to defend girls liking Twilight?), so fat guys are like the only group left. That said I don't like humour that is too nasty in general, but what sucks is when "you can't make fun of X" goes too far and writers go "oh no we can't have [female character] EVER be the butt of a joke." Sorry my grammar sucks, it's late here and I can't be bothered.

          Anonymous

The female rep is the crazy woman stalker. The boy-crazy woman who obsessively follows some boy she likes and does creepy things like makes a scrapbook of a "What If We Were Married" using cut photos she stole from his house or whatever. Think Berry (Foster's Home), Helga, Tootie, Lola Bunny, Heloise, Dijonay.

You're not going to get 1:1 representation of every trope. There are just some tropes that are dominated by men just like there are some dominated by women. Fat women were mocked constantly in the 90's, it was a running joke in Friends. Now it's considered politically incorrect but people still want to make fat jokes, so they just choose men instead.

I understand that fat geeks are an easy target and kinda deserve to be made fun of but I also can't help but wonder why people b***h and moan as to why animation isn't taken seriously and whatnot when they actively insult the (only) adult demographics that consume their work and would be inclined to whale on high quality merchandise. They don't have to directly appeal to these guys or anything like that it just seems hypocritical when artists want to have their medium (and by extension jobs) taken seriously when they too insist that their work isn't for you, it's just for kids.
Of course the real reason is probably some petty shit about wanting attractive, conventionally intelligent but-not-geeky, upper-class coastal types to be fans of their work and not ugly weirdos that would spend thousands of dollars per year on dolls, plushies and posters.

The people b***hing and moaning are those adults lol. Cartoons should be for kids. Adults watching cartoons is when all the calls to censor shit started and everything had to "make sense" and "have a good message" and couldn't just be funny and random anymore. You can watch it as an adult but don't expect admiration for it. Cartoons should always be primarily for kids.

Like seriously, is it just a severe lack of self-awareness or are these guys just really simple-minded? Or is it becoming so focused and fixated on a hobby that you forget how to have basic human decency?

Memes aside, it is genuinely interesting how our viewpoint of cartoon porn changed so fast and radically. At the time it was seen as a real cause for concern that the general public might see a saucy image of Bugs Bunny and think negatively of Warner Bros, and now it's so normalized we have a known rule to expect it, companies actively pander to it and barely pubescent iPad zoom zooms are hooked on Sonic futa inflation from the crib.

These companies dont pander to fanart porn, are you crazy? Its just that by the end of the 90s they threw their hands up and said, “Well frick we lost this battle.”
The genie is out of the bottle and you cant control the insane amount of pornography on the internet now, specially if it’s perfectly legal.
That being said, one thing Bernie’s video points to, which many forgot, was that back in the 90s and the early 00s, there was a civil war going on in the furry fandom between the perverts and the not-perverts or prudes, the guys who welcomed furry porn and those wanted to keep the fandom squeaky clean, and the later would even join forces with anti furry online communities like SomethingAwful. It was interesting seeing those old cringe furry pictures (pic related) in the video that came from CrushYiffDestroy, because I have seen many of them get posted everywhere online including here after all these years, if you think about it, this is sort of when cringe compilations and cringe culture started online. The pro-porn furries succeeded in the end obviously, but these type of battles are still being fought today. With anime nerds/weebs shaming others for being into weird Hentai or for bing too cringe and making dumbass videos about it, or as we saw recently here on Cinemaphile, Amphibia Zoomer fans trying to ruin the lives of Amphibia porn artists on Twitter. It’s crazy how not much has changed in some aspects

              >Its just that by the end of the 90s they threw their hands up and said, “Well frick we lost this battle.”
The instance of this that stands out to me more than any other was late 00's.
              Erin E-surance.
Esurance had a goldmine on their hands with this chick.
Then completely dropped her because they got uncomfortable with the amount of porn being released.

One of those rare cases where R34 outright destroyed a character entirely.

                Anonymous

When was that like the late 00s? I think by that point some companies still get the internet. Or maybe they have been paranoid idiots who think they understand the internet when they really don’t.
One thing I keep noticing is companies giving too much of a shit about what the internet thinks, foolishly thinking it translates into what the general public thinks, like when Hollywood seriously thought that could turn their stinker of a film, Morbius into a success because people online turned it into a meme. Most of Twitter’s users are bots anyway and you may get the impression that all political lunatics in that translate to a political movement within American society when reality only a small minority of Americans actually uses Twitter and those lunatics are just the loudest voices. However, braindead Boomer CEOs and politicians seriously believe that what goes on in the internet matters

Pretty impressive research on that video. He managed to successfully dig up new information on such long-forgotten events, and he obtained evidence that disproved some widely-spread urban legends. I also like that he told people not to go harass anyone mentioned in the video. People keep forming outrage mobs way too often these days, so seeing a disclaimer against them was nice.
