Why are these cartoonists acting like fans were the ones having a meltdown and not random California artists desperately trying to convince the public it was a good show and worth watching when it comes out because "my friend worked on it" while doubling down on saying that audiences are moronic?
I don't think fans were having a metldown until the cartoonists were. Most of the comments were, "What the frick? It's just TTG AGAIN. These reboots fricking suck", which is barely a meltdown. It wasn't until clickbait of, "OUTRAGED FANS PROTEST THUNDERCATS ROAR" did we see artists on Twitter saying that people are morons and hour long essay videos, "Why Thundercats Roar will fail!".
it's less embarrassing that the consumer has backlash. The people defending slop corporations mandate just because their friend works for it is what stifles new ideas.
I swear they played that fricking episode where they go inside someone's body (aquaman I think) 24/7. Made me hate the show as a kid cause I always associated it with that episode.
More like 500 trolls saw this episode and posted endless threads about it to get replies, interpreting any attention as "seething" even though most people don't even know or care that this show exists.
You're banking on 1% of 1% of nerds who let baby cartoons rile them up. You're pathetic.
Basically there was a Thundercats reboot a few years ago that was announced & it looked like annoying shit and it was the epitome of all those poorly drawn, obnoxious calarts memes.
it blew up on twitter, with most people rightful calling it out for being shit with about maybe 10% of people being weirdly aggressively defending it and insinuating that anybody who doesn't like it is a pedophile incel purely because they didn't want to make their LA friends cry. The TTG s
What exactly is the purpose of rebooting a show nerds like and then shitting on said nerds? You will have no fandom left to mourn you when you inevitably croak
Because those nerds stopped watching TTG a long time ago, if they ever did that is. TTG was mostly just background noise for 4 or 5-year-old or fricking infants. Just shit to leave turned on while the teenage babysitter is at home with junior to prevent him from running like crazy up the walls
No, some people have made that joke, but he was inspired by some comic shop owner that one of the writers knew. I remember them talking about this a little in the DVD commentary when the character first appeared
People care more about them being ugly self-absorbed buttholes than anything else. If they were hot tho, almost 70% wouldn't give a damn about the rest. To get fit and maintain it you already need to be more competent than gays like Dobson already are.
very likely, sega was memeing sonic hard before the movie came out
its amazing they made fun of chris chan on the show, no fricking clue how that got approved
I never followed the drama here, did Thundercats get cancelled?
Yes. There was a week or so of seething online from staff over the usual >stop laughing at people losing muh jobs >incels ruined a GOOD show
Then people got bored pretending anybody cared, and nobody's thought of TCR sense except for WB trying to scrub anything left.
>not female
So moronic. Almost all Dangermouse fans are girls, if the reboot was truly British it would've known that. My mum loves Dangermouse, dad on the other hand never cared that much. Same with all my friends growing up, it was mostly the girls who watched the show and had the figures, keychains etc. The modern fandom is clearly majority female, but oh whoops, they pretentiously blew their load in the first series so they didn't have time to figure that out.
A bottom-of-the-barrel insult. Also for some reason fat guys aren't included when it comes to current day body positivity (unless they're gay or trans). People are easing up on insulting others for their life situations/appearances but "you're fat and live in your parents' basement" is still a go-to. It's a weird double standard, I never understood it. t. not a fat guy, but a fatgay so I notice these things
Imagine when the feminists find out that fatfetishists exist and so they start working out to rebel against the patriarchy and we are gifted with the era of the musclegirl. I can't wait.
Well a crazy obsessive fan doesn't have to be fat, that's the obvious thing. But also more lately there's more of a "you can't make fun of women" thing (remember when feminists tried to defend girls liking Twilight?), so fat guys are like the only group left. That said I don't like humour that is too nasty in general, but what sucks is when "you can't make fun of X" goes too far and writers go "oh no we can't have [female character] EVER be the butt of a joke." Sorry my grammar sucks, it's late here and I can't be bothered.
The female rep is the crazy woman stalker. The boy-crazy woman who obsessively follows some boy she likes and does creepy things like makes a scrapbook of a "What If We Were Married" using cut photos she stole from his house or whatever. Think Berry (Foster's Home), Helga, Tootie, Lola Bunny, Heloise, Dijonay.
You're not going to get 1:1 representation of every trope. There are just some tropes that are dominated by men just like there are some dominated by women. Fat women were mocked constantly in the 90's, it was a running joke in Friends. Now it's considered politically incorrect but people still want to make fat jokes, so they just choose men instead.
It's also one of the reasons I will never bother withthat fat character tier list. Personality is a big factor to me, and the "options" are abysmal. I hope to create what I want to see. I look forward to the reactions someday.
>tfw a series tried to insult the people in love with the characters by trying to make them repulsive as possible >my heart still didn't waver towards the one I love, I even thought he looked cute

I think that episode was my first introduction to Star Trek. Was surprised years later when I watched the original series on DVD how many references were actually in this episode.
I understand that fat geeks are an easy target and kinda deserve to be made fun of but I also can't help but wonder why people b***h and moan as to why animation isn't taken seriously and whatnot when they actively insult the (only) adult demographics that consume their work and would be inclined to whale on high quality merchandise. They don't have to directly appeal to these guys or anything like that it just seems hypocritical when artists want to have their medium (and by extension jobs) taken seriously when they too insist that their work isn't for you, it's just for kids.
Of course the real reason is probably some petty shit about wanting attractive, conventionally intelligent but-not-geeky, upper-class coastal types to be fans of their work and not ugly weirdos that would spend thousands of dollars per year on dolls, plushies and posters.
The people b***hing and moaning are those adults lol. Cartoons should be for kids. Adults watching cartoons is when all the calls to censor shit started and everything had to "make sense" and "have a good message" and couldn't just be funny and random anymore. These portrayals aren’t too far off. You’d be surprised by the amount of times I’ve encountered obese dudes that dress like slobs with a lack of hygiene. I’m talking about grease stains on shirt, belly or ass hanging out, and terrible BO.
Like seriously, is it just a severe lack of self-awareness or are these guys just really simple-minded? Or is it becoming so focused and fixated on a hobby that you forget how to have basic human decency?
>you hate other people because they treat you badly >decide to behave like a gross slob >other people hate you more and treat you worse because of your behavior

I love these type of old furry autism stories.
Memes aside, it is genuinely interesting how our viewpoint of cartoon porn changed so fast and radically. At the time it was seen as a real cause for concern that the general public might see a saucy image of Bugs Bunny and think negatively of Warner Bros, and now it's so normalized we have a known rule to expect it, companies actively pander to it and barely pubescent iPad zoom zooms are hooked on Sonic futa inflation from the crib.
>companies actively pander to it and barely pubescent iPad zoom zooms are hooked on Sonic futa inflation from the crib.
That's actually bad. Companies and people need to kink shame people more.
These companies dont pander to fanart porn, are you crazy? Its just that by the end of the 90s they threw their hands up and said, “Well frick we lost this battle.”
The genie is out of the bottle and you cant control the insane amount of pornography on the internet now, specially if it’s perfectly legal.
That being said, one thing Bernie’s video points to, which many forgot, was that back in the 90s and the early 00s, there was a civil war going on in the furry fandom between the perverts and the not-perverts or prudes, the guys who welcomed furry porn and those wanted to keep the fandom squeaky clean, and the later would even join forces with anti furry online communities like SomethingAwful. It was interesting seeing those old cringe furry pictures (pic related) in the video that came from CrushYiffDestroy, because I have seen many of them get posted everywhere online including here after all these years, if you think about it, this is sort of when cringe compilations and cringe culture started online. The pro-porn furries succeeded in the end obviously, but these type of battles are still being fought today. With anime nerds/weebs shaming others for being into weird Hentai or for bing too cringe and making dumbass videos about it, or as we saw recently here on Cinemaphile, Amphibia Zoomer fans trying to ruin the lives of Amphibia porn artists on Twitter. It’s crazy how not much has changed in some aspects
>These companies dont pander to fanart porn, are you crazy?
In some cases they absolutely do, like Warner Bros recently going all in on Baffy and fem Bugs shit
>Its just that by the end of the 90s they threw their hands up and said, “Well frick we lost this battle.”
The instance of this that stands out to me more than any other was late 00's.
Erin E-surance.
Esurance had a goldmine on their hands with this chick.
Then completely dropped her because they got uncomfortable with the amount of porn being released.
One of those rare cases where R34 outright destroyed a character entirely.

When was that like the late 00s? I think by that point some companies still get the internet. Or maybe they have been paranoid idiots who think they understand the internet when they really don’t.
One thing I keep noticing is companies giving too much of a shit about what the internet thinks, foolishly thinking it translates into what the general public thinks, like when Hollywood seriously thought that could turn their stinker of a film, Morbius into a success because people online turned it into a meme. Most of Twitter’s users are bots anyway and you may get the impression that all political lunatics in that translate to a political movement within American society when reality only a small minority of Americans actually uses Twitter and those lunatics are just the loudest voices. However, braindead Boomer CEOs and politicians seriously believe that what goes on in the internet matters
It's a shame Burned Furs are just as autistic as the homosexuals they hate. Why are down to earth furries so rare?

I’m starting to think it’s just an American thing, because European and Japanese are beyond cool and laid back
Pretty impressive research on that video. He managed to successfully dig up new information on such long-forgotten events, and he obtained evidence that disproved some widely-spread urban legends. I also like that he told people not to go harass anyone mentioned in the video. People keep forming outrage mobs way too often these days, so seeing a disclaimer against them was nice.
>turns out it was THIS literally who fat autistic furgay stalker, not THAT literally who fat autistic furgay stalker all along

Why are these cartoonists acting like fans were the ones having a meltdown and not random California artists desperately trying to convince the public it was a good show and worth watching when it comes out because "my friend worked on it" while doubling down on saying that audiences are moronic?
Because fans WERE the ones having a meltdown.
So were the people working on it.
Both sides were and it was annoying and embarrassing.

Why do people have such negative opinions on adult men (age 18+) watching cartoons?
Adults don't watch cartoons. You're talking about man children.
>never has had the experience of watching looney tunes or Tom and jerry with their children
Midwit take
I think they have negative opinions on the morbidly self-absorbed who lack a social conscious.
Did Futurama have a Comic Book Guy in it?
Closest thing I can think of is that Star Trek episode where the sentient space cloud thing was a basement dweller
I need a confirmation; is it true that comic book guy was a little of a self insert of Matt Groening?
No, some people have made that joke, but he was inspired by some comic shop owner that one of the writers knew. I remember them talking about this a little in the DVD commentary when the character first appeared
Follow the money. People who watched any television show that was intended for a different demographic made advertising more difficult.
Notice how the stigma has lessened? The streaming business model allows for more niche interests.
>Notice how the stigma has lessened?
It hasn't the open mockery now just gets laughed off as "ironic".

So what you're saying is if I wanna hook up with british chicks I just have to pretend to like some gay cartoon rat
Why are they always fat?
A bottom-of-the-barrel insult. Also for some reason fat guys aren't included when it comes to current day body positivity (unless they're gay or trans). People are easing up on insulting others for their life situations/appearances but "you're fat and live in your parents' basement" is still a go-to. It's a weird double standard, I never understood it.

Is this why there's no female rep when it comes to crazy obsessive fans?
Well a crazy obsessive fan doesn't have to be fat, that's the obvious thing. I'm flattered you say that, anon, I know I can sound kind of pretentious on Cinemaphile

> Why are down to earth furries so rare?
I’m starting to think it’s just an American thing, because European and Japanese are beyond cool and laid back
Pretty impressive research on that video. He managed to successfully dig up new information on such long-forgotten events, and he obtained evidence that disproved some widely-spread urban legends. I also like that he told people not to go harass anyone mentioned in the video. People keep forming outrage mobs way too often these days, so seeing a disclaimer against them was nice.
>turns out it was THIS literally who fat autistic furgay stalker, not THAT literally who fat autistic furgay stalker all along
woah this changes everything
Does no one else remember the Becky Prim thread?
Pretty much, why? What happened in it?
Which one? Did someone post face? I remember the faces of Cinemaphile threads more, surprised by how diverse the board actually is
Man you just reminded me we can't have Family Guy Yourself threads anymore because it was taken down
Not a cartoon but Todd from The Boys is literally the embodiment of Cinemaphile
Nah. He looks more like an embodiment of Reddit.
Reddit is more like the cup-throwing scrub that Homelander killed in that scene.
I assume this guy was supposed to be a reference to fans. Why else would some random guy they've never interacted with be obsessed with Haley
Eww. Who's obsessed with Hayley?
