The joke is at first it seems like Timmy’s dad is a tightwad who took him to an escalator (escalator land) as a cheap, cost cutting measure instead of going to the amusement park but later in the ep an unrelated character says “I want to go to escalator land” which means it was an actual amusement park ride.
It makes you wonder how many lolrandom jokes from FoP actually do mean something. For example the Norm joke about wanting to destroy Canada didn't make sense to me until I knew about the Norm that voiced him.
I don't think that was the joke I think it's moreso that Mom and Dad are so stupid and out of touch that they think Timmy would enjoy being on an escalator than an actual ride since the episode is mostly about Timmy being excited that he's old enough for actual rides.
thats a good one. >"I'm respecting your privacy by knocking but asserting my authority as your father by coming in anyway!"
or >"They're animation credits, they're going really fast because nobody cares about them!"
for me

I always liked the bit with the threatening love letter. >Timmy: Aw man, no matter how hard I try, I can't write a good letter! >Cosmo: Well, forget the mushy stuff! Try a threat! >Cosmo: Watch. "Dear Trixie, we have your parents. If you ever want to see them again..." >Mr. Turner: Timmy!
Mrs. Turner: Hi sweetie, what are you doing? >Mr. Turner: Hey, you're writing a threatening love note. That's how I met your mom! >Mr. Turner and Mrs. Turner: "If you ever want to see your parents again..." (laughter) >Mr. Turner: You know, I never did get that ransom.
I've always been kind of alarmed by how callous people are about this scene tbqh
Or at least they go to great lengths to apologize for Trixie, and think this episode is some big character building moment for her that is wasted
She is proving in this moment she is an unreliable friend, which she does so again at the end
Its a pretty funny moment but I think the deeper implication gets lost on waifugays who thought it was supposed to be her Northwest Manor moment
FOP literally does the same fricking joke every single episode >gee I sure hope (insert plot device) doesn't episode "as they say out loud) >the thing still proceeds to happen
nta but
who the frick are you people who respond to a statement like "this is bad" with "OOOOO AND I BET YOU THINK [totally unrelated other thing] IS SOOOO GREAT, RIGHT?"
nta but who are you people to retort that >I don't like thing >compare shit thing to other shit thing
is somehow invalid? It's literally the backbone of criticism.
Yeah, that's what comparative criticism is. You fact-gays are so dense.

Actual comparative criticism is "the blend of art styles in Chip N Dale looks unconvincing compared to The Amazing World Of Gumball", not "OH, YOU DON'T LIKE CHIP N DALE, WELL I BET YOU LOVE SPACE JAM"
Because they have the intelligence to recognize that their argument is worthless but not the maturity to admit it, so they just resort to "WELL I'LL JUST PRETEND THAT YOU LIKE SOMETHING THAT'S WORSE WHICH MAKES ME MORALLY SUPERIOR SOMEHOW"
>WELL I'LL JUST PRETEND
honestly this is the most moronic part to me
itd be one thing if anon actually admitted to liking rick n morty or whatever else hes winging about... sure i could make the argument that liking something flawed doesnt mean youre incapable of seeing its flaws, or that the two styles of humor are incomparable, but thats besides the point...
no, the dumbest part is that he literally just comes up with this headcanon about what someone else likes and then uses it
then again i see people on Cinemaphile do it all the time, they assign everything an 'affiliation' and assume that if you dont like something that belongs to their... side... that you must love something that belongs to the opposite.... side.... whatever the hell those sides may be
It's closely related to whataboutism, which itself is a form of deflection by trying to make someone's criticisms seem disingenuous by raising concerns of why they aren't criticizing a similar fault in another party, often one the deflector doesn't like. Example, spoiled because I don't want to start a shitstorm: Every time a troony gets called a groomer and responds with "what about priests?"
Yeah, that's what comparative criticism is. You fact-gays are so dense.
Comparative criticism actually analyzes how two different pieces of media pull off a similar task in order to emphasize some point the critic wants to make by giving a contemporary example of some technique. If you want a really on-the-nose example, look at any Nostalgia Critic video where he sidetracks to talking about some seemingly-unrelated piece of media, introducing it through some segway like "take for example...". The point he tries to make is usually made as NC explains the relevance of said media, then often ends the comparison by tying the narrative back to the media he's reviewing in order to continue the review's narrative.
What argument? The first poster was making an eyerolling "old thing you like isn't as good as you remember" post. Naturally they opened themselves up for trolling and low quality replies.
I get it as "old people are amused by things younger kids will find boring"
Timmy's wondering when they'll get to the ride and have fun, but turns out they're already on it and his parents are actually enjoying it somehow.
Someone will probably tell me I'm wrong and explain it.
explain

I thought it was a reference to Universal Hollywood’s endless stairs from the upper to lower levels
That's exactly what it is.
You can see the Warner Brothers water tower from this thing.

>an unrelated character says “I want to go to escalator land”
That character being the president himself and is even there at the end of the episode.
I don't think that was the joke I think it's moreso that Mom and Dad are so stupid and out of touch that they think Timmy would enjoy being on an escalator than an actual ride since the episode is mostly about Timmy being excited that he's old enough for actual rides.
I unironically think about this joke at least once a month, it's so damn good
Saw it being used to describe anime, it's a great joke
the "this is the ride" is a really popular quote among the latino community
it's even more accurate for open world vidya
post the scene youtube
in terms of FoP this one definitely still gets me

thats a good one.
>"I'm respecting your privacy by knocking but asserting my authority as your father by coming in anyway!"

for me
Respecting Privacy for me too, that one is just perfect.

From that same episode this was my favorite joke
He has some of the best quotes and moments from the entire show.
Are parents who do this shit just trying to see their kids jerking off

wow such an insightful hyperbolic analysis, i bet you think the humor in floppa & slop or RickGPT and MortyGPT is clever too
nta but
who the frick are you people who respond to a statement like "this is bad" with "OOOOO AND I BET YOU THINK [totally unrelated other thing] IS SOOOO GREAT, RIGHT?"
i mean why
whats the connection?

yeah? really now?

To my knowledge most (if not all) episodes with that was written by one of the main writers of Johnny Test as that is also staple of Johnny Test.
When do we get to the thread OP?

For me it's always this entire scene

This is a pretty big meme in the Spanish community
Mom is a fan of going down huh?

This never gets old because it can be applied to anything that's devoid of substance.
When do we get to the joke?
