You come off as fairly young if that particular lolcow shook you to your core, so I’ll try and give you some advice I actually followed. If you don’t feel comfortable putting out any particular kind of art/writing/etc, trust that feeling and don’t do it. It’s super easy to attract the wrong crowd if you keep putting out what’s popular vs what you actually want to be known for. And while deranged morons will come and go and you cannot realistically control that, you will at least feel less worse about it if the stuff you put out is what you are comfortable in being known for.
Internet smut making is fun, but it’s genuinely not for everyone, and like most else, it should be something you approach from a position of comfort and control over rather than constant fear of the wrong type of person latching onto you. At the very least, just understand that (unless you’re a psychiatrist or an American legislator) you cannot realistically do anything about them, and go about your career.

If you are working professionally, just keep those drawings under wraps between yourself and/or a VERY close group of friends. Artist want to share their work because there is a bit of an exhibitionist nature to show the world themselves. However, my mind changed after this with some dude named the gigglygoonclown and him using artwork to grom kids. Sure, it's not the artist's fault, but man that would mess me up if someone was using my R18 art that way, so it's best to keep that stuff in a folder and don't show it to anyone unless you put it in an artbook and have dedicated fans by it. I know another artist that is in the works of doing that and it seems like the safe option
