Maybe it's shallow of me but I stopped reading after the artist change. Pat Mills writes a good Punisher though.

Well, no, he doesn't. The whole point is that it's NOT The Punisher. The whole series is one big piss take.

Which is really surprising considering how many of the covers to both of those series have become memes, and how Jimmy Olsen is the springboard for Kirby's Fourth World saga (but all of that material has already been collected in omnibus format).

Hence why it won’t get an omnibus collection

I read this first issue and thought it was a pretty fun comic. I'd say it deserves to be collected. So does the Post-Crisis Captain Atom run.

What's good about Blue Devil? I've always just been vaguely aware of his existence, but I can't remember any comics where he features heavily.

This was one of those series that was critically acclaimed in its day and had a cult following, but now is barely remembered at all and all the acclaim and the cult following are completely forgotten.

    PAD's Supergirl

Hellblazer should really get an omni collection at this point.

The Question Omnibuses were two books for what, 40 issues?

Hellblazer is 300 issues, plus tie-ins and minis just published from '87-'13, not including the stuff that's come afterwards. That'd be like 10 Omnibusi, and would cost about £1000 to collect.

And I'd do it without blinking an eye.

        >And I'd do it without blinking an eye.
My homie. I missed the bus on the TPs and DC is really picky as to what get reprinted (nothing aside from Delano's first arc and Dangerous habits) I'd buy that shit in a heart beat. Even the Azzarello run. Milligan's run can frick off though

Starman had 80 issues in 2 compendium books, so that'd be around 5 books? Also funny you mentioned Question, I came when book 2 came in the mail last week

I would read a whole novel by Milligan about what a clusterfrick killing Hellblazer and starting New 52 JLD was. Just an absolute mess.

Did he really kill it though? Sales were dwindling as is iirc.

But damn he really ignored all the 250 issues that came before him and went with that flashy capecomic magic from the get-go. I don't hate his JLD run since it introduced me to my favorite book; The Books of Magic JLD having Janin on art is like a shit cherry on a piss cake.

No it was a corporate-mandated killing because of the reboot.

I hate JLD though. I was convinced for years that Nightmare Nurse had to be a cheesy villain from a 40s Spectre comic they were trying to reboot, but no.

Because Vertigo was being scrapped, right? Shame.

Where is Nightmare Nurse from anyway? She showed up in Rebirth's Skwuad too

She was an original character, created by JMD and DiDio for the New 52 Phantom Stranger run, which I understand was good. But she's a shit character and I hate her showing up in adaptations like she's a worthwhile Constantine supporting character.

And yeah, Vertigo was getting scrapped and Constantine was going into the main DC Universe, so Hellblazer had to die.

Within a year, John Constantine had met He-Man. God, those were horrible years.

Don't shame me, but I got into comics when n52 just started. Literally the 1st month iirc.

Only later did I read the whole Hellblazer run and assorted minis. I also read n52 PS, and I suppose it's fine. Wasn't great by any means, but an enjoyable read. What is your stance on Si Spurrier on John?

                Anonymous

I didn't beat you by much. Had literally been reading Hellblazer like six months when they announced it was cancelled. I think the #0 issue of JLD was one of the first comics I'd bought new off the shelf since Ultimate Spider-Man when I was a kid.

I'm very much enjoying Spurrier. Pretty much the only stuff since 2013 that actually feels like Hellblazer. Although I enjoyed the short-lived Constantine: The Hellblazer. It had cool art and the beginnings of an interesting story but it never went anywhere. Cinemaphile spergs out about Constantine fricking a dude in it, as though he hasn't been doing that since 1992.

                Anonymous

You and I are now blood brothers. I completely agree! Si really captures the essence of John and the tone of Hellblazer itself. It took until that hospital issue for it to click for me that it felt exactly like Hellblazer. I like the supporting cast too, even that feels like OG Hellblazer.

I also think Cinemaphile spergs too much about John's bisexuality, although it does irk me that writers make him getting it up the ass a main character trait. It feels like fanfictiony writing.

We can meet up and bleed each other anytime, dude!

He's always been a bit of a bawd, so I really don't mind if it's 50/50 dudes and dames, cause over the course of Hellblazer he has like ten interchangable love interest in between the memorable ones like Kit and even Piffy, who I didn't mind because as I say I started reading mid-way through Milligan's run and didn't get to her rushed, weak introduction until I'd completed a full read through.

                Anonymous

Yeah his bisexuality is more a symptom of his bawdtiness and need for affection. And it was usually very downplayed. He came out in a throwaway thought bubble in a filler issue in which nothing happens, aside from John getting a panic attack. I would've minded Piffy less if they didn't shit on his exes, they didnt constantly mention she was like underage and smitten with him from the age of 6(?). I also think that if John would settle down, it would be with someone completely cut off from the magic side of the world. Or he could marry Chas idc.

I've always thought they should pair him with an existing magic dude. I can just never think of a worthwhile candidate.

Vandal Savage or someone pure evil would be great.

                >I like the supporting cast too, even that feels like OG Hellblazer.

It's always been my opinion that Hellblazer works best as a spooky Eastenders. Whether it's the pub landlord ghosts or Cheryl or Map the cast is always grounded to a place and a time and the whole world feels lived-in and real around them. It's why I don't think any Hellblazer book since the series ended has worked.

C'mon even amalgam got an omni. Sometimes I wonder if the only reason PAD's stuff doesnt get reprinted is because he's still alive. Christ, O'Neill's body was still warm when they announced The Question.

I recently got into collecting and was surprised to find some that simply haven't been collected, even in tpbs, but off the top of my head:

Birds of Prey by Chuck Dixon and Gail Simone
Shade, the Changing Man by Peter Milligan
    Original Omega Men
    Checkmate by Greg Rucka
    Shadowpact
    Jonah Hex (anything)
    Legion of Super-Heroes (Volume 3)
    Madame Xanadu
    Supergirl by Peter David
    Mister Miracle by DeMatteis/Wein/Moench
