I was expecting a skinwalker-based horror and instead got another generic "le actualy monster is le humans!" schlock.

      Cringe

I have never been more disappointed in a movie than when I watched this. The premise I was promised was that some magicians come together to do heists and a James Randi type guy helps explain to the cops what magic act principles they've used and how to connect them to the crimes. That is a fricking great premise because you could have the magician who does mentalism con his way past guards or talk his way into a password over the phone, the magician who's quick with his hands could pickpocket keys and keycards, the contortionist could hide in a weird place to remain in position until after the place as closed, the prop maker would be making props while the magician who designs acts for other magicians would be the guy planning the heists etc. There's basically a type of magician for each facet of a good heist. Hire Penn & Teller or some other magicians with Hollywood connections to design the heist around real magic acts and it could become a top-tier heist movie.

Instead they just had them do complete bullshit magic acts that wouldn't work without the movie CGI and put a moronic twist at the end.

      What cryptid is Cinemaphile?

Skinwalkers are 100% Cinemaphile, there's like a hundred old skinwalker greentexts. Only a fricking newbie would think it's reddit. The only thing that comes close is that thing /x/ does that I can't remember the name for, where they imagine something so hard that they make themselves schizophrenic. The same thing Bob Hoskins did to himself by acting his ass off in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, making him see cartoon weasels so often that he had to take a year off from acting just to stop it.

        >Only a fricking newbie would think it's reddit

this is the problem with nuCinemaphile. all the newbies on here first saw Cinemaphile-originated memes on reddit, started browsing here, and now believe that decades-old memes that started here are reddit. it happened to pepe and it's happening to various other memes. then the zoomers find out about it and it's all over.
that's why calling pepe "reddit frog" or shitting on "frogposters" aka regular fricking Cinemaphile users posting a Cinemaphile meme is newbie behavior.

          Anonymous

Frogposters suck ass, though. The spread of using a billion slightly different frogs and jaks instead of original reaction images has made this place way worse. I'm certain that phoneposters are a high percentage of soijak posters because they can just go into a folder on their phone and pick one at random, instead of having to actually look for a suitable reaction image for their low effort shitpost consisting of one sentence or just quoting a post.

i liked that it was basically the thing without the spoopy alium, paranoia and distrust being the real "monster".
that being said, the film wienerblocks you with the potential of a monster when the son sees something in the dark (was he just sleepwalking again?)

That movie is the quintessential example of 'we couldn’t come up with anything better while writing it, but we can just claim it’s purposely ambiguous.'

It’s real life horror you fool, not silly monsters

          Anonymous

Nope, sorry. The whole ambiguous 'was it real or just in their head' thing is straight up lazy, incompetent screenwriting that gets used as a crutch way too often.

See also: The real monster was suppressed grief/trauma. Note to indie horror writers: STOP

Yeah the movie was dogshit. It was like a comedy of errors with morons doing the absolutely dumbest shit possible at every turn. Racemixing unlikable characters that you hoped died which was the only satisfying part.

I was disappointed because they finally pulled the trick I've been waiting for since Scream 3 but then they made it too obvious with the family angle.
