He did "audition" for the film by sending him a sex tape. Maybe Von Trier saw his dick and felt bad for him.

Aside from its play like presentation which I appreciated there's just not much going on, it's a very conventional story about a reclusive town exploiting an outsider's shaky standing, the writing holds it back.

It's been forever since I've read Dante's Inferno. I can't remember what ring murderers go to. I figured the pit of human suffering was supposed to be for blasphemers or something.

          Anonymous

          >pit of human suffering was supposed to be for blasphemers or something
Not really. Dante's work is smart and nuanced.
7th circle is for those that commit violence. It has three circles, outer one is murderers (violence against someone else), middle is suicides (violence against yourself, which is worse) and inner one is blasphemers, in that it is violence against God. Jack would be on outer reach of the 7th circle, or the inner one as he said some weird things about God and made sculptures with humans of his creation.
8th circle is fraud, as in fraud that corrupts society, gives way to the other sins etc. For instance people that created schisms amongst men (so Mohammed, protestant "reformers", etc).
9th is the worst, and a frozen lake or something.

            Anonymous

9th is reserved for traitors. Brutus, Cassius, and Judas are in there with Lucifer himself.

Oh yeah exactly. I was so happy to see that Dante put those homosexual Caesar killers down there.
Btw, there's a solid theory that Caesar was the major inspiration for the Jesus figure.

you morons need to stop thinking that the term "style over substance" is a bad thing. The Neon Demon IS style over substance and that doesn't make it a bad movie at all, in fact Refn realizes this and focuses on it because he understands its his strength. The Neon Demon isn't even some deep symbolic film either so lets not pretend otherwise.

I used to really love that movie but I somehow outgrew it and stopped re-watching. I think it's a very bad movie that hit the right buttons to confuse the viewer in seeing it as good.
