I was in the United States in the summer of 1990 as a child and Simpsons merchandising was absolutely everywhere. by that point there was just a half-season of the TV show out by that point, i don't think it was an organic phenomenon. It was second only to batman shit everywhere in the summer of 89.
no, it just had a working title of "snakes on a plane" in development, the studio changed the title to something less goofy but internet nerds started a campaign to give it officially the goofy title, and they added one scene of sam jackson shouting "get these motherfricking snakes out of my motherfricking planes" to surf on the hype. that's it.
seeing this movie on opening day was fun though, people were throwing rubber snakes all over the theater. it was fake paid-for PR bullshit though, the next day the movie played to bored audiences.
I think Transformers because 9/11, so alot of movies just chugging the american military's dick. Had that 2000's blurry, multi-cut action scenes, the music, the actors, and Michael Bay was at his peak power, money making wise.
