ITT: Movies that literally EVERYONE likes. Movies that will always be met with enthusiasm by any type of person, no matter their age, gender, political views and so on.
I always have this problem where I want to pick a movie to watch with my family (I live with my mum and my gran). My mum keeps suggesting rom coms, while my gran is easily offended by any gore, fighting, etc. Problem is I hate 99.9% of rom coms, and I prefer more long and epic stuff, a la LOTR. Are there any movies that are widely regarded as enjoyable without being too niche, arthouse-y or overly offensive?
Princess Bride covers all the bases.
I HATE the princess bride. Tumblr: the movie
>full head of lush hair
>no gaypouch
>happy, satisfied look always
>never wore sandals in my life
yep, I'm thinking BASED and TASTEFUL
not likely.
but you're still on Cinemaphile like the rest of us so you must have something terribly wrong in your brain you dipshit Black person
I never saw it but reddit loves it so I automatically hate it.
it predates both these sites by nearly 20 years wtf are you dipshits on about
Sorry about the soul anon. Maybe Santa will bring you one for Christmas.
>princess bride
agreed
>O Brother Where Art Thou
only true for men
Id say Rush Hour. everyone likes Rush Hour
>Id say Rush Hour. everyone likes Rush Hour
Rush Hour is mildly funny at best, Lethal weapon is better in every department
op asked for movies everyone likes
i agree lethal weapon is better, but more people like rush hour
I've never seen it

You better have been PUNNY.
Impossibke because there will always be people that dislike something based on outward perception.
It's hard not to like Forrest Gump but some people absolutely loath that movie.
Maybe Babe.
its by no means perfect but manages to pull it off well, also has peak Paul Newman
I literally came to post this. While indeed not perfect exactly, it's excellent and a movie that pretty much anyone would enjoy.
Fifth element mabye? Havent heard anyone say they hate it
I hate the blue opera alien so much I can't bear to watch the movie at all.
gay. The Opera is one of the best parts.
Yep, I was actually considering that one! I'm still thinking of other options, though, since everyone in my family has seen The Fifth Element like a quintillion times already, ha ha
I would suggest family movies. They don't have violence or gore. Things like Disney movies (Mulan, Hunchback). There are also plenty of older movies back from during the Hays code era of Hollywood, where "inappropriate" things had to be minimized to a large degree. They might even be nice and nostalgic for your grandmother. 12 Angry Men is just talking. Our Man in Havana is really funny.
I can't stand Fifth Element. Too campy. Have never liked it, not as a kid, nor as an adult.
Agreed for Dances With Wolves, but Goodfellas has at least one on-screen mafia murder
Catch Me If You Can is a good choice, same with Titanic probably, if the nudity and sex scene is acceptable.
Titanic is a dreadfully boring chick flick that is only noteworthy for Cameron being autistic about the flooding scenes.
Yeah Titanic sucks ass
What kind of moron watches Disney movies in their spare time?
Where do you think you are? This board is obsessed with Marvel and Star Wars and they have meltdowns every time Disney does anything that looks woke to them. Most people here seem to only watch Disney movies in their spare time.
O Brother Where Art Thou
Point Break
Jaws
Jeremiah Johnson
Dances With Wolves
Goodfellas
Sneakers
Die Hard
It's pretty much impossible to find a movie that EVRYONE likes but you can probably find a movie that your familly will like.
There are a few that I generally pick because they are fast paced and non violent.
Big fish
Catch Me if You Can
Persepolis
Phantom Thread
Punch Drunk Love
Maybe Titanic
Forest Gump and The Fifth Element are decent choices too
Stardust (2007), the most universally "okay" movie in existence.
It's solid but De Niro is gay in it though which might trigger some folks.
Back to the Future
Pic unrelated?
My grandma watched “Sweet Home Alabama” on a loop for the last two or three years of her life. Like a little kid watching a Disney movie or something. Turns out it’s a decent movie
Shawshank Redemption
Groundhog Day
Indiana Jones 1 and 3
Stand By Me
Life is Beautiful
>Shawshank Redemption
hate that movie, it's just way too safe
But Cinemaphile ain't no fairy tale
Stand By Me is good. Life is Beautiful is one of my most hated movies ever.
>be me
>watching Sweet Home Alabama for the 19th time with grandma
>main character is fashion designer
>her model friends include a smoking hot babe and a ripped black guy
>grandma asks: what do you think about mixed race couples
>I awkwardly avoid answering
>”I don’t like it” she tells me
>I smile and nod, not having the heart to tell her that the black character is gay and hooks up with a white dude in the movie
I miss her and her casual racism like you wouldn’t believe bros
This might sound like a troll response but genuinely isn't. The Princess Switch movies are actually a lot of fun and something that could be enjoyed ny all.
>something that could be
could be, BUT AREN'T
You might be surprised. I genuinely was at how much fun they are.

I think the 90's A Midsummer Night's Dream is done well enough that even people unfamiliar with Shakespearean English can follow what's going on well enough to enjoy it. It's really one of my favorite movies ever and a wonderfully done version.
Clue gets my vote
The Dark Crystal, everyone loves muppets
The Lego Movie
Hot Fuzz
Men in Black
If you can look past the main character being played by a murderer and the main antagonist being played by a pedophile, this movie is a ton of fun that anyone can enjoy.
Even as a kid I hated it. Frick Ferris doing whatever he wants with no consequences while all the normal people get framed as bad guys for not sanctioning his tomfoolery.
That's kinda funny but a fairly valid read of the movie. He really does frick over everyone around him, but I still enjoy it.
I liked his Rube Goldberg body double thing
Nobody on earth dislikes Amadeus.
Plenty of people hate oscarbait dramas and Amadeus is no exception.
Is it that good? I never saw it because a friend of mine had the poster in their basement when I was a kid and it always freaked me out. Plus I wasn't into classical music much. Maybe I should check it out.
I have heard enough critique on the fact that it really exaggerates the rivalry between Mozart and Salieri, people may not hate it, but they might not like it
Go was really good and I think would appeal to most people.
never seen dune, it just never called my attention
