When they rely on parody episodes, even if the characters and setting doesn't fit the stories at all.
What does Snow White have to do with SpongeBob? Sounds incredibly forced

they made a full episode about Nosferatu
imo, lord of the ring parody is the real death of a show.
Lol, that's what Chowder started with
Being fair LOTR was fresh on everyone's mind it was a cultural phenomenon at the time.
The Lord of the Rings parodies in Billy and Mandy and Regular Show were some of the best episodes of their respective series though.
BETTER THAN CANDY! YOU'RE SO DANDY! BUTTERCUP DANCER! IIIIIII. LOOOOVE. YOOOOOOOOOOOOOU!
Neither of those shows were that good to begin with.
Ok? It didn't herald their deaths though, in fact both of those episodes basically came out during their respective peaks. Even if you don't especially care for them they definitely became notably worse well after these episodes aired.
name five shows you think are good so i may properly judge you, if you refuse you are a pussy
When aliens show up.
Now I feel bad for enjoying the newer SpongeBob episodes
I mean yeah, this makes sense. If you've been running so long as an episodic series that you're running out of new plot ideas that aren't just re-treading old plots, then a simple solution is to do some silly homages to classic stories. I don't really see this as a bad thing, outside of the running too long aspect in which isn't up to the writers. For example I'd much rather if the Simpsons, instead of continuing to add a bunch of bullshit to Marge and Homer's youth they'd treat these ideas as silly AUs and "what if" scenarios. Homer doesn't actually have to be in a grunge band when he was younger, just have them tell a tale about a grunge band/Nirvana spoof staring Simpsons characters if that's the kind of parody you're itching to do.
what happened to the nautical nonsense
eh, idk i think parody episodes can be fun but i absolutely agree on the "RELY on them" angle
it does feel like a last ditch effort to 'write' something, and not just someone saying "hey i have this great idea of how the characters of my cartoon can work in this classic fairytale/story!"
i miss the nautical theme of this show
really, what happened? it felt so imbedded into the show early on, an overarching theme, now it's only there in name
>really, what happened?
Anon you know Hillenburg is dead, right?
so what are you saying, he was the only one keeping the original themes alive? no one else? everyone was waiting for him to die so they can take his show and bastardize it?
Yes that's exactly what I'm saying.
that's
not a normal thing nor should it be acceptable
why did we all just accept it
Because everyone's been conditioned to be a poor, fearful moron the last 15 years.
oh yeah
You didn't hop on the deck and flop like a fish
When they make episodes about current events à la South Park.
i think south park is a show that inherently belongs in an era where "current events" are something big, like a war or a huge scandal or some massive news story that's fresh for months
current event writing doesn't work in the era of the common internet where every day is some new nonsense about who said what, and who did what, and who ate what, and by lunch time it's already old before they even pumped out an episode about it
>Animanaics
>Mickey Mouse
>Cow and Chicken
>Johnny Bravo
>Timon and Pumbaa
>Happy Tree Friends
>Rugrats
>Uncle Grandpa
>Family Guy
>Simpsons (with a video game)
All of these did the Jack and the Beanstalk parody better. SpongeBob doesn't add anything new.
Looney Tunes had THREE Jack & the Beanstalk parodies
Modern South Park jokes: white people are so racist lmao weed
>evil queen Karen
Now you caught my attention
When they frequently use grossout and gore when the old seasons rarely, if ever used it.
ok what literally who e-celeb told you this because I've never heard of this being a sign that a show is out of ideas
I think it was more when they became heavily self referential and made episodes dedicated to shit like "MY LEG" or Nosferatu.
