Tokusatsu literally means 'special effects', not just 'japanese hero shows'.
Every single show that depends heavily on special effects to bring its story IS a toku. And yeah, even Bibleman counts as one... At least the eps that dont feature him helping kids to mount a bible-themed stage play...
Earth, 2147: The legacy of the Metal Wars, when man fought machine - and machines won.
BioDreads: Monstrous creations that hunt down human survivors and digitize them.
Volcania: Centre of the BioDread Empire, stronghold and fortress of Lord Dread, feared ruler of this new order.
But from the fires of the Metal Wars arose a new breed of warrior, born and trained to bring down Lord Dread and his BioDread Empire. They were Soldiers of the Future, mankind's last hope!
Their leader: Captain Jonathan Power, master of the incredible powersuits which transform each soldier into a one-man attack force!
Major Matthew "Hawk" Masterson, fighter in the sky!
Lieutenant Michael "Tank" Ellis, Ground Assault Unit!
Sergeant Robert "Scout" Baker, Espionage and communications!
And Corporal Jennifer "Pilot" Chase, Tactical Systems Expert!
Together, they form the most powerful fighting force in Earth's history.
Their creed: To protect all life! Their promise: To end Lord Dread's rule!
Their name....CAPTAIN POWER AND THE SOLDIERS OF THE FUTURE!"
And this is a great /m/ example too
It’s just such a unique series, even if you want to compare the Terminator setting. It’s so good that it’s honestly infuriating that it never got the love it deserves.
>This piece of shit that almost killed franchise. >The turtles from this piece of shit met the In Space Power Rangers. >Those weird OVAs meant to sell those weird Takara figures. >Recently had crossovers with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and even figures. >TFW Ninja Turtles is technically toku-related.
I never liked the guy they got after Willie Aames. He wasn't an actor so he always screamed and grunted his lines without any of the swagger of the first Bibleman.
The episodes got a little less focused on stage plays as his armor got better. He even has to tell a kid that god killed his parents in a car accident because that's how things go.
>special effects >miniatures >focus on vehicles, weapons, gadgets and fun >cool music >60s/70s pulp fiction >focus on character and personality >villains and secret organizations
James Bond is toku.
This is even more qualified because it’s set in space as a spy flick, surprised it didn’t get a Japanese release because they would eat the shit up out of this film (1967)
You’re a weeaboo. Seriously, you are a fricking weeaboo. You’re using a Japanese term for special effects but to japan the term “anime” means all of animation, even stuff such as Hanna barbera shows and looney tunes are referred to as such. We call Japanese live action movies with special effects as tokusatsu the same way we call Japanese animation anime. This is not hard to understand anon. Captain power and bibleman are clearly inspired by the genre yes and that’s what this thread is about, but not every movie or television show with special effects is called or should be counted as tokusatsu. You are genuinely autistic
yes, it should because thats exactly what the word means. and the fact that you are insulting and belitting people who think like that makes you look like the moron weaboo. because you cant accept the fact that theres shows that do exactly the same as japan does productionwise, except they are not super hero shows.
>This guy thinks Anything from Barney to The muppets count as toku
I stand incorrect, you’re not just a weeaboo, you’re absolutely moronic. Go ahead, make a lord of the rings thread here and see what happens. Don’t pussy out, I really want to see you try and defend your claim so badly
>Its this moron again
Didn’t you get owned the last time you made this moronic statement? You don’t even clarify actual British science fiction like Dr who or thunderbirds and just straight towards a typical action flick. There’s a certain pathology that clarifies what is toku and what isn’t and the people that place media like “The satan bug” and other Cold War spy thrillers into the same boat as fricking ultraman are reaching too far. And you’re using a Japanese term too so that doesn’t make you smart or clever anon, that makes you a weeaboo. Now get out
NTA, but He's not wrong though. Toku means special effects in japan. It always has. By that definition Supernatural is toku. Just as mecha means mechanical and by that definition trains and tanks are mecha.
We get around that by using the american definition of toku and mecha but they aren't wrong when they use Japanese definition of those terms. And it also makes us look like fricking hypocrites when we allow shit that doesn't fit the either the Japanese, or American definition of mecha, while whining other stuff along the same lines isn't /m/.
Yeah but more like just toku.
Do you have anything to say on it or did you think this would be a bait thread?
No. I'm just talking about shows that despite what they seem, are actually semi-toku.
You didn't even watch it so go back to Cinemaphile.
>No. I'm just talking about shows that despite what they seem, are actually semi-toku
>pseudo
>semi
That's not what pseudo- means you pseudointellectual clown.

Captain Power is Toku, period. It’s also arguably one of the best.
Totally, there was some Japanese involvement too with AIC and Artmic
It’s just such a unique series, even if you want to compare the Terminator setting. It’s so good that it’s honestly infuriating that it never got the love it deserves.
There's a fan made continuation.
I’m going through the original series now and I’m going to watch those after. Is he still planning on making more?
lol why that dude look like the mc from N64's Body Harvest
Captain Power was a really good show. JMS turned a toy commercial into a really good show.
Whacky Protestor is my favorite Bibleman villain. Who's yours? No one from the shitty CGI cartoon allowed.
>A bot was able to successfully detect bible man and placed one of those religious ads here
Really?
>>he doesn't know
>This piece of shit that almost killed franchise.
>The turtles from this piece of shit met the In Space Power Rangers.
>Those weird OVAs meant to sell those weird Takara figures.
>Recently had crossovers with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and even figures.
>TFW Ninja Turtles is technically toku-related.
i mean technically the live action 90s ninja turtle movies are already Pseudo Toku
Its not pseudo, it is full toku because it checks all squares.
Pre-EU X-Com
Doesn't the fake Iron Man in this straight up wear a Kabuto Zecter
I never liked the guy they got after Willie Aames. He wasn't an actor so he always screamed and grunted his lines without any of the swagger of the first Bibleman.
Powersource and Animated Adventures both suck ass. All the reboots of Christian shows suck. New Superbook and new Left Behind are lame too
Did Aames actually did eps that arent about kids setting stage plays?
The episodes got a little less focused on stage plays as his armor got better. He even has to tell a kid that god killed his parents in a car accident because that's how things go.
>TFW David Hasselhoff counts as a toku actor.
>That narrator
I’ve heard him before somewhere like one of the metal hero shows
>I’ve heard him before somewhere like one of the metal hero shows
It's the Gaogaigar narrator.
Isao Sasaki played Michael Knight.
>Isao sasaki(who famously sang the openings for Space battleship yamato and getter robo) voiced over David hasselhoff
Unbelievably awesome
He's a fairly accomplished voice actor from what I've seen. He's the original Duke Fleed in the Grendizer pilot film.
what's pseudo about it, it's an actual toku series
>special effects
>miniatures
>focus on vehicles, weapons, gadgets and fun
>cool music
>60s/70s pulp fiction
>focus on character and personality
>villains and secret organizations
James Bond is toku.

i dunno, yeah, a lot of sci/fi shows take place in outer space and use special effects.
but again, Toku doesnt mean 'space shows' or 'super hero shows'. it means 'special effects'
i would go as far as to say that a mexican novela that uses special effects, be it practical or CGI, is a toku. Case in point:
You’re a weeaboo. Seriously, you are a fricking weeaboo. And anime means in Japan animation, in which stuff such as disney and such are counted. Checkmate. We are not Cinemaphile2.0
And I’m still waiting for that lord of the rings thread to defend that claim.
>the american definition
>american
have a nice day burger.
