Go-bots had a one year head start, like many anons are saying here. What made them the loser in kids' eyes was that every single character were only in a small cheap scale at first. The equivalent to the minibots and cassettes in Transformers. The coolest transformers were birthday and christmas gift-level items. I'm sure the other reason was the stupider names and lamer looking cartoon designs, but it was the perception it was for ghetto kids.

GOBOTS AND TRANSFORMERS WERE CREATED FROM TOYS THAT ALREADY EXISTED IN JAPAN AND BROUGHT OVER TO WESTERN MARKETS, the reason Gobots died was that Gobots toys kinda sucked compared to Transformers and Hasbro bought them out and kinda shelved them since the transformers were more popular. The transformers had better articulation, more varied designs even with the repaints and recolors included as well as a far better tv show comparatively with Transformers the Movie kicking the ass of anything the Gobots ever did. It isn't plagiarism when you're just a better alternative to the "original"

The way I see it, Go-Bots really focused on the robot mode over the vehicle mode, which is why everyone is the same size and scale. Everyone has accurate human proportions etc. And they were scaled to Star Wars figure size. Almost a standard of the day.
While Transformers seem to focus more on the vehicle mode, most of them being near perfectly accurate to the vehicle, but the robot modes are all over the place with varying scales, they have weird feet, legs, or tiny arms, sometimes no head, the hands have to be removed and placed somewhere else etc.
So is this the same thread as all the others, at least its not Invincible this time I guess.
