Pic rel, The Forever War, is a neat semi-short comic

If you see a "2017 version" that's just the same comic with more color and faff needlessly divided into more chapters, I don't recommend it
>Like science fiction, aka fiction about SCIENCE, y'know, the research and study and exploration of weird unexplained and anomalous scientific phenomena >All I get is space-action crap like Star Wars, or "We watched one sci-fi movie and now we're gonna parody it" shit like Rick n Marty
I wish there was at least another word to define the genres so we don't get lumped together
Idk, not all of it is Isekai
"Space-action" is a good name for the SPACE BATTLES PEW PEW PEW stuff, as opposed to the more "hmm yes that's a weird wormhole that summons man eating worms from planet Bimblebobo, let's study it" angle that I'm fond of
I hate to admit it but the best recent example I've seen of that stuff is early SCP, before it became gay OCgayging and roleplay nonsense

Science-horror is a big aspect of that good stuff, but it's not always necessarily horror focused (Although I suppose you could argue everything weird and scientific is a little bit horrific) it's much more clinical and less fruity and extravagant in nature
"Space Opera" is used for space adventure/fantasy like Star Wars
"Hard Science Fiction" is used for more or less grounded sci-fi like Arthur C. Clarke, although this typically invites a lot of debate over what should really qualify (even Clarke wrote about psychics, especially in his earlier stories)
I'm not sure if there's a term for the morality play SF of classic Star Trek or the Twilight Zone.
>Why is this generic term describing things that are generic?
What kind of special autism is this? Do you get pissed at the fact mystery is a genre that extends multiple time periods?
Well tell me what you think the post meant, because if you can't tell it meant "It's annoying to me how rare hard sci-fi is and I wish there was another word to define the genre" then idk what to tell ya
Also wtf do you mean >What kinda special autism is [wanting to differentiate things you're passionate about]?
The good kind, bro, that "autism" is literally what fanhood and passion is about you basic, normie, default randomly generated Sim
>It's annoying to me how rare hard sci-fi is
But that isn't what the anon asked, he asked why there wasn't a more defined term than "Science Fiction" which there already is. Not only is he a pedantic moron that can't stand a generalized term he's too stupid to recognize one already exists.
> "Adult sitcom with a twist"
New one of these on Prime I hadn't heard about, The Second Best Hospital In The Galaxy. The two mains are space babes but there's a lot of xenos in this. 1st ep just got released on Freevee.
For comics, I like a lot of the old-school stuff, Lost In Space and Magnus, Robot Fighter (the originals) Mystery In Space, Strange Adventures, etc. Haven't read much of them though beytond the few I had as a kid or picked up since.
There isn't any actual science fiction in comics and cartoons, but Silver Surfer
>isn't any actual science fiction in comics and cartoons
uh

How did you misunderstand the post you're responding to so hard that you even managed to get angry at it? How did you accomplish that?
>lecturing someone over a post they failed to understand themselves
How do you do that?

Galaxy Rangers was good, way back when. It was syndicated so they could push boundaries a little and get away with more than a network show.
Fantastic Planet is a classic sci-fi story with amazing visuals and music.
UFOPORNOOOOOOOO
i know there's a high def version of this now, i don't care, the stale JPEG crumbs make it GOOD

Yup, we just can't get any adult Cinemaphile media with an actual narrative anymore, everything needs to be an elaboration for dogshit sitcom comedy
