Spidey isn't a self insert character. People assume he is because they think he's supposed to be a socially awkward dweeb, when he's just a smart guy with a chip on his shoulder. Dude's tall and handsome and can attract and date beautiful women no problem. He's ultimately let down by his bad temper and attitude. Dude picked fights with everybody as both Spider-Man and Peter Parker. That's why the other heroes had issues with him. Not because they think he's annoying, but because they think he's an butthole.
You also got dumbasses out there who can't into nuance and think all characters with attitude problems are potential school shooters.
>potential school shooters
Do or do not. There is no try.
Go to bed, Norman.
emotionally stunted
He made a clear statement on why Spider-Man isn't a self-insert, and THAT'S all you have to fricking say in response? You emotionally stunted moron.
Tim was the actual self-insert batfamily character - before they gayed him up, at least.
Wolverine.
Was he? Hasn't he been consistently considered the least favorite Robin between him, Dick, and Jason?
Tim was literally a nerdy fanboy
And then his Red Robin book was also a self insert fantasy even if Tim had lost his nerdy fanboy personality by then
>Hasn't he been consistently considered the least favorite Robin between him, Dick, and Jason?
Not at DC and not in universe. Like Babs, Tim is a litteral an ascended Batman fanboy.
>That’s by design
That's true for most DC characters, or most fictions aimed at kids or teens.
No one gives a shit about Jason's tenure as Robin outside it making him connected to Batman. Tim revitalized and cemented Robin as an important part of Batman's mythos after decades of a fairly large portion of readers seeing the concept as outdated and detrimental to the franchise. He also sustained a fairly successful solo series for a decade until killed by editorial.
While I'm sure people self-insert as Tim, as a character he's not as he's a product of a group effort regarding his creation. If anything Damian falls closest to an authorial self-insert.
Hal Jordan and Wolverine
>Hal is the self-insert GL
>not Kyle
Kyle is the poochie
He was supposed to be hip and relatable but it didn’t really take
Kyle was made specifically to be a self-insert, just because he failed doesn't mean that's not what he is.
I contest that
He’s not a self-insert if no one is self-inserting into him other than Bueno
Fricking this. Boring as everyman Hal is the ultimate power fantasy self insert. Wolverine is like a tough guys power fantasy
I want to insert into both Babs and Dick if you know what I mean
That’s by design. Dick was created to give kids someone to relate to on Bruce’s adventures.
Barry Allen was introduced reading a Flash (Jay Garrick) comic and was socially awkward. Does that count?
Superman
Dyck looks like a Dyke
how is Batman a self-insert character? who relates to a billionaire with kids and dead parents who also happens to have 200 IQ and multiple black belts?
Everyone, apparently.
People don't relate to Batman because he's a handsome billionare. They relate to him because he's a autistic manchild.
Is this what everything boils down to for you? God, you're fricking stupid.
Kamala Khan and Sana Amanat.
Kong McFarlane and Bendis.
Pete Wisdom and Warren Ellis.
King Mob and Grant Morrison.
Starfire's daughter and Mariko Tamaki.
J Jonah Jameson and Stan Lee.
Terry Long and Marv Wolfman.
Billy Butcher and Punisher whenever Garth Ennis is writing him.
>King Mob and Grant Morrison.
>J Jonah Jameson and Stan Lee.
>Billy Butcher and... Garth Ennis...
Do these really count? Putting a "self insert" in a self-contained book that you've created isn't really the same as putting yourself into the middle of an established comic book universe, or projecting heavily onto an established character.
It's not Tynion and Tim Drake, for instance.
Well, you could also argue Quentin Quire is Grant Morrison, too. And that one sticks out like a sore thumb.
The team had a shapeshifter, an alien, and a magical girl, and yet Terry Long being a sex symbol in canon is simply the most unrealistic thing about the book.
New spiderman too
Why comics tho?
Do you mean selfinsert like the author's selfinsert? Or the nonsensical audience selfinsert people keep parroting?
