Not defending rick and morty fans, but fair is fair... Running that shit to the ground, that was all on the showrunners, baby.
Bet you thought jerry was a sympathetic character too
Again, that shit's all on you, dan.
He was cancer no doubt about that, but if you thought jerry was a good role model then you should stick to the simpsons and family guy
FPBP
Why are you trying to deflect the topic onto Jerry being a bad role model? Jerry is a fictional character, in a show that's presumably for adults. This is like a weirder, more autistic version of whataboutism
he wants a shitpost flamewar, happens all the time. just ignore
That's any title that accuses the reader of something
Because that's pretty much the only opinion I see on Cinemaphile when it comes to heartfelt criticism of the show. You hear about how rick's a gary stu, how the segments written by women were garbage, but the one point anons passionately argue about is when it comes to how the show shits on jerry. They take it personally. The fact that
thinks I'm trying to start a flame war (I'm not) is quite telling too. It makes it hard to take any vitriol directed towards the show seriously, as you wouldn't know how much of it is just their obsession with the self insert character.
>inb4 reddit
Like with elon, reddit hates this show now. The rick and morty haters were always reddit contrarians doing a tour on Cinemaphile, their opinion being the leading edge of the hivemind. Not that this makes the show good, but it makes the association a moot point.
You have to go back
First post is the best post. The fans didn't do shit. They can be as cringe as they want and it doesn't mean shit to me. The show got bad on its own, thanks to the writers.
This. Show started to become inconsistent with it's quality in season 3. Season 4 was mostly middling. Season 5 had several eps that were horrid, like the giant sperm incest baby is by far the worst ep ever made for the series. Amortycan Grickfitti, the turkey ep and RickEvangelion were pretty shitty too. Only the final 3 eps were any good in that season. The change of writing staff post season 2 fricked the series.
>the giant sperm incest baby is by far the worst ep ever made for the series
god, what were they thinking with that one? it has all of the worst things from the later seasons of rick and morty and none of the good:
>lame gross out humor instead of actual jokes
>everyone is sex obsessed in an attempt at being shocking
>the most moronic attempt at a "feminist" subplot I've ever seen, feels almost like a parody but is played dead serious
>le lolsorandom episode with no plot significance except it's not entertaining at all
>no attempt at being clever or meta humor, just a generic cliche "save the world with the macguffin" plot
>rick's power level goes from godlike to not being able to beat a big sperm cell that uses karate or something for no reason, lazy writing
Sometimes it's a group effort
Do I wanna know what the frick the "Dan Harmon Doll Rape Video" is?
I figured the cancellation was just budget issues or some other crap....I didn't even ehar about this.
It's a comedy sketch he made and posted online in the 2000s where he plays a baby rapist and simulates sex on a baby doll.
It was kind of cringe from the start. Atheism, not once.
ITT: show I still like, lmao
Star Vs.
If a fanbase "ruins" a show for you it just means you're on the internet too much. It's not the show's fault that you're on Cinemaphile/reddit/social media so much and are interacting with the show beyond just casually watching it.
STFU with this non-argument. Showrunners/execs will desert a storyline in favor of whatever bs headcanon fans are parroting. Or in the case of AT and SU, the fans themselves join the crew to screw it for everyone else.
That's still mostly the showrunner's fault
In AT case it was the showrunners who ruined the show
For me it's less of the issue that fans of Rick and Morty were super annoying, and more the feeling that the fans' self-indulgent interpretation of Rick as a character started to bleed into the actual show.
He went from being a drunken bastard version of Doc Brown to being one of the strongest, most powerful beings in the multiverse to the point where he's repeatedly compared to a God. Not to mention dialogue like,
>"Am I evil?"
>"Worse, you're smart."
He was literally always like that, from season one. Unless you think they rewrote a significant part of season one as the fandom began to react to episodes, Its more likely that the fandom adopted this attitude from Rick and Morty than the other way around
He wasn't a mary sue from the beginning
See
Fricktard
Not true. The original show was just goofy. Ever since season 1 though it's been melodrama about Rick and his life, where Rick is supposed to be this sort of tragic self-insert character.
My gay roommate had a gay friend over once who liked Rick and Morty. A fat Hawaiian shirt wearing a effeminate camp gay. You're watching an episode, and there was a scene where Rick said something and typical Rick edgy cynical fashion. The gay lisping friend said "oh my god! I think I'm like totally, actually Rick. That's sooo me."
This sort of attitude bleeds thru in every new episode and Rick has become a sort of insufferable personification of Reddit
He wasn't "the Smartest Man in the Universe" until a certain point in the series.
It is the same as the shift between sympathetic Dracula of s1 of Castlevania to outright apologia in s2 and onward. Rick's flaws in the series narratively tied to him being the smartest man in the Universe. Him choosing to erase Jerry's memories while choosing to suffer with knowledge is the Fedoralord equivalent of being fricking Christ. Rick could be happy and smart if he drop all of the Materialist bullshit ideas but the show agrees with him. The typical R&M episode is about someone other than Rick having a moral dilemma when they should have listened to Rick's cold amoral thinking.
I agree in spirit. b***hing about a fanbase instead of the actual contents of the show is a copout for circlejerking morons. But it's not like the two are completely isolated things. Creators take note from reception, for better or worse.
>If a fanbase "ruins" a show for you it just means you're on the internet too much.
The problem is that the showrunners are on the internet too much. They really should keep away from any fan media forum or comment section to avoid being influenced.
Fanbases can't ruin shows. You are just a sensitive homosexual.
they can. they ruined zelda. botw was trash.
Voltron Legendary Defender
IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE FANBASE THEN YOU ARE LITERALLY A SHEEP PERSON THAT ONLY PAYS ATTENTION TO WHATS POPULAR, END OF STORY
fricking losers
ENJOY WHAT YOU ENJOY, IGNORE THE FANS
Based vs cringe is the ideology people should follow
nothing is based though, literally nothing humans do, is based, its all cringe
The Small Horse Show.
i really dont think the fanbase ruined this show. I dont give a frick about fanbase influence and i really stopped liking rick and morty around season 2. season 1 was actually funny and whimsical because the world was actually stupid and rick wasnt edgelord smart he just knew how the stupid worked. as soon as season 2 started it went to frick everthing the world is a lie i hate my life bullshit and even roiland realized the shit was gay because he kinda fricked off and let dans emo divorcee ass do the rest
That show was fricking garbage from literally the first episode.
The first two seasons were gold. I don't know how you can hate the first two seasons honestly. Season three is when it turned to shit.
Rick and Morty was ruined by female writers. Now that would be a thread. Are there enough examples though to fill a whole thread?
yeah, i'm pretty sure the sperm episode was made by a woman... sure
every modern fanbase is fricking cancer with their stupid meme fanart, kinning shit, turning every other character trans or homosexual and pretending every show out there is wow so deep
It's not like the fans barged into the office and held Justin Roiland at gunpoint asking for Pickle Rick. They ran the show into the ground and it's 100% their fault. Trying to subvert expectations or something is still their fault.
The only Series really ruined by the fan base is Homestuck since they hired fan fiction writers for the sequel.
Every popular series, ever
I really hope you die
>letting a fanbase ruin something for you
All fanbases are shit. If you let that get to you you're doing it wrong.
Just want to hijack this thread to say that the discussion around Rick and Morty’s fandom is the most obnoxious fricking thing to ever exist. There is not a person alive who has criticized this show or it’s fandom with these talking points who has actually experienced the show or it’s fanbase.
Toxic fandoms aren’t real. End of. have a nice day
did you forget about the autists throwing a tantrum in McDonalds because of the sezchuan sauce? don't act like you know anything at all
>did you forget about a bunch of people going into McDonald’s and yelling once
>did you forget about that guy Who did what is unmistakable as anything but an ironic bit where he ree’d and naruto ran out of the store
great fricking argument - your next line is, “you have to have a high IQ”
The what? I am not really into rick and morty so I don't know what you are talking about
>wub dub wub
>destroys planet
>dub wub dub
kills entire civilization
>the fanbase
The series stagnated because of writing room conflicts.
You can see this because the people who left are just writing Rick and Morty plotlines that were dropped, see Loki, Solar Opposites, etc.
I love season 1 and almost everything after is garbage
Rick and Morty was ruined by Dan Schneider. Justin Roiland wanted to keep it a moronic sci-fi nerdy comedy. Dan insisted it be "like, really deep man" and it went to shit and Justin distanced himself from it to focus on a show that actually carries his creative vision (Solar Opposites)
