ITT underrated kino

Josie & The Pussycats (2001) is a slick and surprisingly smart satire on pop music and the music industry with a cheeky meta quality to it. Unafraid to exploit the good looks of its cast and featuring a top-notch OST of power-pop tunes written by members of Fountains of Wayne, The Go-Go's, Counting Crows, and That dog and sung by Kay Hanley from Leters tonCleo, it captured the last moments of pure positive MTV youth culture and pre-fab pop music acts while also making fun of it. Pure comfy kino that's easy to watch, fun, snd filled with good humor and great music.

How did this succeed while Jem and the holograms shit the whole bed?

      Anonymous

Because this movie was well-made with thought, creativity, and care. Jem was cheap shitty garbage that had nothing to do with the original character or property.

        >the interviews with real Jem fans that they spliced in the movie
        >no one knew they would be in the movie
        >no one knew the movie only existed to shit on the cartoon
        >mfw a bunch of troons and femcels were all unwilling participants in the murder of their favourite franchise

That may be the shittiest thing that movie did. They solicited fan videos where they asked them to talk about Jem (the original cartoon) and chose the ones that were sincere and emotional about what the show meant to them. Then cynically stuck their videos into the movie as if they were talking about the Movie Jem. That's such a slimy thing to do and only insulted the fanbase further. Also, you fricking morons, why not just make an actual adaptation of the fricking cartoon? It could have been a much better version of the Barbie movie like 8 years before Barbie. Such a cynical naked cash-grab. Glad it bombed and is reviled to this day. Would still like an actual live-action Jem adaptation, that would be kino.

FOR A LONG TIME, WHEN I —A MILLENNIAL— WAS A KID, MY FATHER —A BOOMER— BELIEVED THAT I WAS HOMOSEXUAL BECAUSE I WENT THROUGH A PHASE IN WHICH I LIKED THE COLOUR YELLOW; BECAUSE I OVERLY LIKED «JOSIE, AND THE PUSSYCATS» (2001); BECAUSE I LIKED «POP» MUSIC; BECAUSE I CARED TOO MUCH ABOUT MY HAIR, AND MY CLOTHES.

THERE NEVER WERE ANY FORBIDDEN «MOVIES» IN MY FAMILY HOUSEHOLD, APART FROM PORNOGRAPHIC ONES, OBVIOUSLY, BUT MY PARENTS NEVER LET US WATCH GORE, OR CRUDE HORROR, FOR WHICH, NOW, I AM GRATEFUL; THEY PROHIBITED ME, AND MY SIBLINGS, TO WATCH «CAT/DOG», THE CARTOON, BECAUSE «CAT» CALLED THE MOUSE CHARACTER «AN IMBECILE».

PARKER POSEY WAS IN «JOSIE, AND THE PUSSYCATS» (2001); SHE WAS ALSO IN «BLADE: TRINITY» (2004); I WAS WATCHING «BLADE: TRINITY» (2004) ON THE TELEVISION, CIRCA 2005; MY FATHER WAS IN THE ROOM; HE SAW PARKER POSEY'S CHARACTER, AND SAID:

—HOW UGLY, THAT TYPE OF WOMAN; THAT PHENOTYPE; MANNISH; IT REMINDS ME OF THAT OTHER ACTRESS, FROM THE CHEVY CHASE «MOVIE» WHERE THEY GO TO EUROPE [«NATIONAL LAMPOON'S EUROPEAN VACATION» (1985)].

I LIKE THAT PHENOTYPE THOUGH; PROBABLY BECAUSE I LOOK LIKE THAT.

WHAT DID MY FATHER MEAN BY THAT?

The lead actress in this was my early 00's waifu and I'll always be upset why she didn't have a career. What happened to her? She should have had a career like Anne Hathaway

      Anonymous

Josie was supposed to be the movie that cemented her career but it bombed so she became a supporting actress in a bunch of forgettable movies, then from 2009-2014 only appeared in direct-to-video films, took a few years off, and now it looks like she's trying to work behind the camera as a producer. She also had a kid in 2015 so that slowed her roll a bit. She's still kino in my book.

I did. Like 25+ years ago. It sucks. It's cringe embarrassing. It's obvious and stupid where Josie was smart and subtle. A terrible film. Maybe you should watch Josie and realize this because I think you haven't seen the film under discussion in this thread.

The only reason I ever watched this movie is because my mum bought it on DVD for herself after we got a PS2.
And the thing is it was one of the best movies I ever owned. Absolute kino. Perfect time capsule to the year 2001 too.
