He was one of the best examples of a fluke. Got lucky with the theatrical cut of Donnie Darko, never made anything good after. The director’s cut of Donnie Darko is garbage.

theatrical cut is terrible but the cannes cut is good

It adapts the first two parts of the novel pretty well, and then rushes through Part 3 of the story like the editor took a bunch of meth
