Because even if the visual effects are good, it doesn't change that it's probably just some forgettable adventure movie.
Because it is, because that's how movies were made at the time. Our modern brain expects a regular diet of BRAWWWW, fast cuts, people yelling, and explosions. It's a cheap movie to watch and make fun of the effects. It's not going to be amazing but it's a chance to put down the phone and connect with this capsule from a different that. A break from modernity is its own reward.
