I've just finished watching The Day of the Jackal, the original with Edward Fox, not the one with Bruce Willis from the 90s, and enjoyed it a lot. I'd like to watch more films like that - about contract killers and the like, but without the absurdity (hyper-intelligent bullshit that borders on magic, superman reflexes and so on) that kind of thing would follow in most modern day films.
Do you know any films like that, Cinemaphile?

Good taste, anon - it's one of my favourites. Can't think of another film focusing on a professional killer that's anywhere near as good, though maybe The Mechanic with Charles Bronson might be worth a look, since it's from the same era? Haven't seen it, though, so I'm not sure.
There's Leon, I guess? Though obviously that has a very different feel.
I watched Leon, but not The Mechanic, I'll give that a go.
5/5 film. Check out The Godson.
Thank you, anons. I'll check those out as well.
In the Line of Fire, 90s Clint Eastwood movie.
The new movie "The Killer" maybe.
It's a very difficult to find this kind of movie with "realistic" Hitman planing everything carefully and trying to be one step ahead of authorities.
>The new movie "The Killer" maybe.
Did not care for this movie
I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be a comedy
Spends ages monologuing about being the perfect killer, then fricks it up
I think it was the point
It was first time he fricked up
Bangkok Dangerous maybe? Haven't seen the original and the remake with nick cage is kinda slow and didn't get good reviews.
You should check the Wild Geese and the Dogs of War. It's about mercenaries though, but still very good
whats the point of the rope?
Keep the barrel steady.
you don't need the rope when you already have the tree.
it is holding the barrel up down and left right, forward-backward is not a trouble axis so it's as good of a rest as you can get, plus small enough to not frick with barrel harmonics. rope is good, works anywhere.
In this scene he's zeroing in the scope on his new rifle
This film is a rarity anon, it took far too many risks with it's subject matter as it is but I guess the Vanishing (1988) might fit the bill?
check out the mechanic. Either the brosnan one or the late 2000s one. Both are kino.
The Wild Geese, if you don't mind that the contract killers are soldiers.
The Dogs of War -- the same.
Smiley's people, if you don't mind a dialogue-driven story as long as it's masterfully written and acted.
Le Samourai, if you don't mind everything in French.
Bullitt, if you don't mind the cop killing the killers in an epic car chase/battle.
That'll getcha started, OP> I wish you joy of the journey.
TV series Quarry, but be warned, the story ends abruptly as they canceled it after one season
Not the same genre but check 'where eagles dare'. I think you will like it.
In Bruges (2008)
The American (2010)
Kill List (2011)
maybe Purple Noon would interest you
not a contract killer but a guy meticulously killing someone and imitating his victim
Le Samourai
is David Bowie steal Edward Fox look? wtf
The bad guy from Three Days of the Condor was a cool contract killer played by Max Von Sydow, you'd probably like that movie.
The Parallax View
why don't they just make a Hitman movie like this?
that really is a good movie
