I've watched the first hour and I'm already dying of feeling bored. DiCaprio and De Niro's characters don't cause any intrigue, they're just unlikable and the acting is monotonous. There's still two and a half hours to go, jeez. I didn't have this much resistance even to Irishman.

I've recently rewatched Bringing out the Dead and I can't even fathom that the same Scorsese directed that and these later movies.
Every single shot in BotD is brimming with energy and the entire thing is a masterclass in manic storytelling.

And now he's making these 3+ hour slogs that look and feel so inert.

I guess he was on drugs and now isn't. That's the only explanation I have.

It's just like Tarantino said. Established but old directors are starting to make crap.

Unironically, even Scorseses non Gangster movies were highly energetic and didn't felt like they are nearly 3 hours long, since Silence he drags it out forever and 3 hours feel like 30.

I think Raging Bull was the prototype for his current style of film. I always thought RB dragged a bit and was kind of a slog compared to his other films from the 70's/80's. Thought I've never seen Age of Innocence.

if you like good cinema, this is kino in the cinema. No CGI deniro bullshit to distract from the cinematography, wonderful set design. A LOT of romance but relevant to the plot, it is the plot. And yeah, there's gangster kino too with some great cameos.

    >The Royal Hotel is a discomforting thriller about predatory, toxic masculinity and the labyrinthian dangers that women must navigate on a day to day basis.
Oh sweet a lecture about sexism
    >Bottoms is a refreshingly unique raunchy comedy that focuses on two girls, PJ and Josie. Unpopular and queer
Oh sweet a lecture about homophobia
    >Cat Person is a razor-sharp exploration of the gender divide
Oh sweet another lecture about sexism
    >Ken Loach returns in classic form for his final cinematic outing with The Old Oak.
    >A landlord in a previously thriving mining community struggles to hold onto his pub, while tensions rise in the town when Syrian refugees are placed in the empty houses in the community.
Oh sweet a lecture about racism
    >Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton, who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family's sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.
Oh sweet a lecture about privilege
    >Leave The World Behind
    >Amanda and Clay's aspirational vacation with their teenage children is interrupted by the arrival of a middle aged couple who own the holiday home and who have fled an unprecedented blackout in the city.
    >The renters are upscale and White; the owners are upscale and Black.
Oh sweet another lecture about racism
    >Uproar
    >A 17 year-old student is forced to get off the fence he has actively sat on all his life to stand up for himself, taking him and his whānau (family) on a journey towards healing and a brighter future, in this coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of the infamous 1981 South African Springbok Rugby Tour.
Oh sweet another lecture about racism
Or there's Killers of the Flower Moon, which looks to be another lecture about racism
Or there's capeshit - which likely includes a lecture too

non-lecture scripts are not even getting greenlit anymore and if they manage to somehow get one going they quickly get some script doctors to woke it up a bit.

How fricking tone-deaf are studios to be making films about the evils of 1980's South Africa when the current South Africa is gradually collapsing?

        >Why is nobody going to the movies anymore

Irishman is a pretty good movie. You just want to join the mob shitting on it because of that one scene. You're gullible and your opinion isn't worth a damn.

Where did I say The Irishman was a bad movie? I had a hard time getting into it at first(it didn't take an hour), but I ended up rating it an 8 out of 10. Solid work from Marty.
