James Gunn Accused of Sabotaging "Guardians of the Galaxy" Co-Writer Nicole Perlman

>Perlman wrote the original story and screenplay for Guardians of the Galaxy, which included many iconic aspects such as Star Lord's tragic backstory and passion for retro music. Gunn ended up rewriting the screenplay, and despite Perlman still needing to be acknowledged as co-writer according to WGA guidelines, Zack Stentz, Perlman's friend and co-writer of the Thor screenplay, detailed the behind-the-scenes Perlman endured to receive credit.

>“Nicole had to knife-fight for her credit on Guardians of the Galaxy. She threw a party when the movie came out called the ‘Frick James Gunn’ party because she had won that very bruising credit arbitration. The thing that I'm still angry about, and I say this as a fan of James Gunn as a director, was that he was selectively leaking stuff to his friends and the fanboy media circles to undermine her credit and bully her into giving up. When Matthew Vaughnn decided to have a temper tantrum over the fact that I got screen credit onX-Men: First Class at least he did it under his own name.”

DC needed to get people interested in the brand again and pull itself in a positive direction. They asked every director who had made a recently critically successful DC movie if they wanted to oversee the DC film slate and all of them said no until they asked Gunn. Todd Phillips was asked and I'm pretty sure Matt Reeves and James Wan we're offered the job too.

Probably because no one else wanted to be on this sinking ship and Gunn will probably get a good paycheck out of all of it.

Gunn is a relatively well known figure in the industry, WB/DC are flailing desperately for any hit since they're hemorrhaging money each quarter, and their desperation for Marvel Studios' leftovers between Whedon and Gunn is showcasing that they have no plan.

Honestly, they're not going to do it, but WB should just stop all productions right now, and then come back fresh in about 7-10 years. People are tired of superhero movies because there's been soo many bad ones. It's run it's course. But the money men who have no understanding of this and just think of it as a product to sell don't care. They'll keep making poor decisions until finally, it will be financially impossible to keep DC shows/movies/games/cartoons/etc going.

And to be honest, I think Disney/MCU isn't too far behind.

I suspect we're in for a crash that will make the 90s look like Eden to Marvel/DC (and their parent companies), and they'll only realize where they fricked up decades down the line because they refused to change when they had the chance.

      >Just wondering what the possible motive is to screw people out of a credit
      Not using their script

      Anonymous

For movies residuals are a pool of money that is divided up by predetermined lines. Director 10%, Writers 10%, etc. The percentages are different on a movie to movie basis but the general framework is still the same.

If the writers were allotted 10% and there were 2 writers, they'd get 5% each.

      Anonymous

Residuals are determined by movie. Credit is a rather arbitrary thing going by how much of the story the person wrote. I think the criteria is whoever decides things has to say you wrote a third of a story/script to get a credit.

There doesn't seem to be any real standard. I've read plenty of people complaining about it.

Now that I realize this is Chris Raab I always find it amusing that people dismiss just how big of dickheads the Jackass and CKY crews were. The revisionism that they only pranked each other is ridiculous. Frantz was hanging out with the same guys that were kicking footballs into people's cars, throwing drinks at fast food workers, shitting in hardware store toilets, harassing people on a golf course, party boy harassing(sexually?) everybody, being general public menaces, etc etc. How about all of them bullying Danger Ehren for years? This guy doesn't get to cherry pick the kinds of bullies he approves of. He's a fricking dickhead too. If not personally then by association. But I digress. wiener blocking and throwing Tums at craft services then having a diva fit on him is a mean thing to do. One day Ben Affleck's sins will come out and he'll be seen as worse than Joss Whedon.

          >David Fincher cast Emily Ratajkowski on recommendation by Ben Affleck. Fincher admitted that he had no idea who she was until Affleck told him to watch for her appearance in the infamous Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines music video where she is fully naked. Fincher was impressed by her work ethic during filming because according to her: "I was ready to be a student, and he is the best teacher. He wants to do a hundred takes, and I want to do them for him."

          >Emily Ratajkowski herself spoke about the love scenes on The Today Show, explaining, “The whole experience was a little surreal… I have to be honest. Obviously Ben Affleck is one of those – you know his face. I grew up with his face. Not sure if he would love that. I went into an audition and there’s this really tall handsome guy. And I’m like, ‘Oh my god. That’s Ben Affleck.’”

          >"By the end it felt like we were a married couple, we spent about 30 minutes of that 2 hour audition making out. We had very good chemistry, so it wasn't weird at all, which is what I was worried about."

          >"Fincher and Ben are both obsessed with rehearsals. Totally obsessed. So when it comes time to shoot you don't have any nerves at all. The problem with sex scenes if you're uncomfortable, it really comes across in your performance. So to make the act feel more normal, Ben and I would usually spend a little bit of time before the shoot cuddling, kissing, petting. He'd even suck my breasts [laughs] to get more into the role."
