it won't even last 2 movies
Theatrical animated movies = 100% 3DCG, no exception.
if they hop on the Spiderverse animation train who cares?
You know if nothing else, I appreciate that Gunn is legitimately trying to do different stuff with the DCU.
Really hope it succeeds.
Same, what’s got me sold is him taking the job at all. I imagine the only person who would be willing to take it is someone who gives a shit and has ideas. Money don’t hurt either of course, but as rich as I would love to be. I don’t think even I would take the job.
I think it's too late. I know people have been saying this for years but I truly believe cape fatigue has reached its limits.

Everyone saw that movie because it was a James Gunn movie, not cause it was a Marvel movie. I don't think he can pull that off again though.

The Spiderverse films are so diffrent from anything else I think many people don't really view it as part of that same grouping of cape stuff. Also while it was very successful it was successful under it's own established niche and budget. Compared to the immense budget and expected profits of the typical massive cinematic universe cape film the profits it makes don't really compare, at least in terms of what said larger movies need to profit.
>Everyone saw that movie because it was a James Gunn movie, not cause it was a Marvel movie
Then won't people go to see the new Superman because it's also a James Gunn movie?
Like I said I don't think he can get people to be invested like that again. Some people will go see it with that mindset but others will be put off because "Jeez, ANOTHER Superman film again".
>"Jeez, ANOTHER Superman film again"
There have been 2 Superman films in the past 20 years, the last one 10 years ago.
People aren't sick of capeshit, they're sick of the MCU.
And the DCEU judging by how things are going with that.
It's a good thing the DCEU is dead then.
There was and it flopped.
And now there doing it all over again and I have little hope.
It's not even anything that's Gunn's fault, I've just become tired of capeshit.
And it's biting them in the ass because as much as I enjoy Clone Wars nobody wants to do homework to watch a stand alone movie or spin-off. It's also the exact thing killing the MCU.
The great thing about TNG or DS9 is you don't have to watch previous Star Trek content to quickly understand what's going on.
>The great thing about TNG or DS9 is you don't have to watch previous Star Trek content to quickly understand what's going on.
To be fair, I do think you absolutely need to watch TNG to get some context about the setting of DS9 and earlier seasons featured a lot of episodes that guest starred characters from The Next Generation.
Anon there is no DECU
>Everyone saw that movie because it was a James Gunn movie,
Nobody knows who this is outside comic nerd circles. Wakanda Forever and Dr Strange 2 both outgrossed it.

Yes they though. The film performed like a superhero movie and was boosted thanks to No Way Home.
Animation will save cinema. Who would've thought?
It's a good start and he is actually trying
Since all the future DC media will be somehow set in the same universe, what kind of stories can they tell with animation?
I want a 3D Kingdom Come movie that emulates Alex Ross's style, kinda like that DC universe online short film
Plastic Man or Terrifics movie
it'd be a great way to save on the budget on characters that can't be done without heavy CGI
I can't really think of another character like that outside of Plastic Man
How is that supposed to work if they try to make a story or use a villain that is probably going to be important in a future movie? Like what if they want to make a Batman movie with a guy like Clayface or Firefly beinf defeated just for the live action Batman movie to use one of them without giving us a proper backstory or even using the same design?
Is that really viable? Grouping live-action films and animation into the same continuity?
Star Wars did it.
Yeah, but most of the animated stuff was spinoffs and other adjacent stuff (like that weird anime thing) that only gets alluded to at best. I'm more questioning how easily you can directly transition animated characters from one film into a live-action sequel without falling into the same pitfalls as licensed films.
What was the last good DC animated film?
Animal Man please
Reminder that James Gunn's favorite comic book movie of all time is Into the Spider-Verse, so of course he's gonna try to make movies like it now that he's in charge of DC
I'm starting to feel bad for him. He was hired precisely to plan a multi-year long franchise. Just doing his job. And there's a likely chance no matter how good or bad his first movie is, nobody will be interested to even watch it. All because of the amazing incompetence of the prior and especially current management, giving audiences zero breathing room to recover form the last year of mega-flops where Blue Beetle is set to make RUBY GILLMAN numbers, and all superhero movies are being hurt by association (which is a good thing, but still).
Batman and Spider-Man will survive and prosper as they always do. Everyone else will either fail or just do okay.
