James Gunn is a midwit who cancelled Rosanne Barr and then immediately cried foul when he was cancelled.

Yes? And he's still right about Maxwell Lord.
I can't believe there are dense people now thinking the 00s Max should be default

What purpose does Max exactly serve as a character outside of the bwahahahaha era if he isn’t a villain? How do you use him without it just being empty nostalgia pandering?

oh yeah i forgot julie scwartz archie goodwin stan lee and the fricking easter bunny signed a pact in the devils blood that max lord can never be anything different. get the frick out of here

IMO, theoretically you could use him the way the DCEU tried to use Waller: as their equivalent to Nick Fury, the guy who's the connecting tissue uniting all these heroes to their eventual team. Frankly, Max is a BETTER fit for that role than Waller, because Waller will always be innately hostile to the very idea of costumed vigilantes, while Max thinks they're neat and pals around with them.

So fundamentally change the character from his classic comic self, but because he isn’t a bad guy it’s okay now

Turning him into a bad guy already was changing him from his classic comic self, just because they wanted a shocking twist.

Not that anon but isn't that the point they're making? That Maxwell Lord has nothing to do that you might as well make him a villain.

Rosanne like James had a history of the perspective conducts that got them "canceled" the difference is that Rossanne had proven she wasn't at all regretful of her actions and hadn't changed as a person. James however had addressed his issues multiple times and had proven to the public he had changed as a person.

also Rosanne got in trouble right AFTER she did something stupid, James got in trouble because someone pulled up tweets from 10 years ago after he said he didn't like trump

Cons and libs are held to different standards, that's all there is to it. Disney had a momentary lapse of judgment because of a wish to maintain their family friendly image, then they realized no one ultimately cares. They happily fired Carano for less because like I said, different standards.

          >They happily fired Carano for less because, like I said, different standards.

They told both Carano and Pedro Pascal (who was already on thin ice) to cut the shit. Carano didn't stop, and Pascal did. Carano didn't just do one tweet and stop she did multiple got told to stop and didn't. she kept poking the bear and she got fired for it

Most people don't care, so they have carte blanche to do whatever they want. Their overton window veers far into the left and only an inch to the right.

That’s because the right’s ideas these days mostly consist of wanting to be as racist and discriminatory as possible without any repercussions afterwards

Incredibly based Gunn shitting on casuals.

Johns literally wanted Mr Jupiter to be the twist villain of Countdown. It was Didio who changed it to be Max.

Wouldn't really say it's casuals, just a point of contention between people who think original creator intent matters more versus those who think the IP Owner's final decisions matter more.

They originally wanted it to be Loren Jupiter.

      >and who the frick is that
Precisely, nobody knowing who that is is why they changed it to Maxwell.

Jupiter is kind of a weird choice. Unless the Titans were meant to have a larger role?

Wasn't the original explanation that he was doing it because of Lilith's death?

Well, for starters, Dick was supposed to die in Infinite Crisis
Also, would've worked better because there wasn't literal years of evidence that he wasn't evil

The evidence that he isn't evil is writer's fiat that he isn't.

Wasn't the original explanation that he was doing it because of Lilith's death?

Lilith's death was meant to basically radicalize him against superheroes.

His daughter dies fighting alongside them, then everybody (including her "friends") basically forget about her all while throwing an elaborate and expansive funeral for Donna, who died at the same battle.

Years and years ago Didio made an offhand mention of Graduation Day being the "start" of everything. Other than the YJ being cancelled and relaunched as Teen Titans and Donna dying, leading to Outsiders, the book had very little impact.

Loren Jupiter originally being the villain instead of Maxwell makes Didio's comment make more sense.

I hope this somehow bleeds back into the comics and DC gives Max a redemption arc similar to what Hal got.
