I never watched Iron Man 2 when it came out but man did it already show all the bad signs future MCU was going to have, with a script that clearly had 3 writers barely melding a story together
all mentions of the new element were 100% through voice over by Jarvis and Stark's dad, I'd bet $100 the element he was going to rediscover was vibranium and they changed it during editing

You think you actually have some kind of point besides semantics? Nobody cares if its not real intelligence. People use the term AI extremely loosely and always have. If we were talking about video games and describing the behavior of the NPCs as "AI" and you came in and said "well askthully its not REAL intelligence, its just programmed logic" people would just tell you to shut up.

3 years ago as an experiment they told an AI software to come up with new chemical weapon molecules for fun. it came up with 40,000 recipes in 6 hours on a macbook. the implications are pretty obvious of what machine learning will be able to accomplish across all fields, good and bad.

Unless the machine is physically capable of reproducing each one of its "inventions" and then properly vetting all the results then it can spit out whatever bullshit it wants it, didn't "invent" shit. Combinatoric chemistry is not new and 40,000 is a very small number. You have a small handful of substitution groups on a small handful of carbon centers and you have 40k different molecules. I'm bullish on AI and this is really a terrible argument. t. former computational chemist and current data scientist.

Is there any reason we couldnt find a new element in space

      Anonymous

i'm not an expert but i'd think given certain conditions being met new elements could be formed in unique scenarios. obviously the vast majority will all be hydrogen and helium.

      Anonymous

No, the periodic table predicts the elements. Think of it like numbers, you can't discover a new number in between the current order of numbers. Elements are just increasing numbers of subatomic particles.

Yes. Elemental nuclei are necessarily made up of integer numbers of protons and we've discovered/made 1 through 118. Above that, they're so exceptionally short-lived that there's no natural abundance of them. It's in theory possible we find some hyperweird star that constantly spitting out elements in the 130 range or whatever the "island of stability" is, where they have half-lives of minutes instead of fractions of fractions of seconds. That's very unlikely and even if it did happen, it would only be a novelty. They're just useless at that decay rate.

        Anonymous

thanks, I was arguing with my brother about how there wouldnt be new elements but couldnt explain it very well. He has very normalgay tastes but will sit and watch the Expanse with me sometimes

What exactly is the difference between The Avengers and MCU Thanos? Both want to abuse power to retroactively solve perceived issues they have a personal connection to, but without solving the overarching problem or contemplating what might occur as a result? I.E. both sides are playing God.

Every Ml model is only as good as its training data. If humans are racist in their communications and the AI is trained on those communications, the AI will be racist. This is a fundamental limitation of the technology, even your favorite unsupervised meme technique you don't understand. AI is exceptionally powerful but, like every computer program, it is moronic and will do exactly what you tell it to do.
