This persistent moronation and drive to turn wins into losses is one of the core reasons the industry is in a casket today.

If they turn Jean and Emma into ridiculous reddit lesbians where every line of dialogue is some obese writers using the comic to win their shower arguments, angrily ranting about patriarchy or some shit, then of course people hate it. But they don't have to execute the idea like that.
Attractive women making out has been a tried and true marketing strategy for generations. Women can kiss women without losing feminine appeal, but it is impossible for a man to appear masculine if kissing another man. They could have paired Jean and Emma off in a way that was interesting, in character, appealing to the audience, but Marvel chose to ignore the easy layup to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They could have even pursued the same poly-angle with Cyclops serving as the central spoke of the wheel. It would have maintained Wolverine's credibility, it would have checked their LGBTQTIABBQWTF++ box, it would have generated at least some interest. What they did instead was something that only generated morbid curiosity, people sharing scans and others saying "no way they'd do something that moronic, right" only to be disappointed. Marvel is a company on a crusade against its own success.
