Yes? Another trope of the show is how everyone dies repeatedly and they have to keep using the dragonballs to wish them back life.
They even comment on it in a meta way several times.
This also happens in End of Evangelion and arguably at other points in the series too.
Attack on Titan has at least important side characters permanently die to overwhelming force
In general though the writing in edgerunners is so much higher than the standard in anime. The basic competent writer knowledge that there was no need for David to actually win that fight in order to "win" is well above the bar here.
I'll always kek at Gundam fans. But the show is totes dark and depressing! Haha OK buddy. Even when people die it's just a 12 year Olds usage of it. My MEANINGLESS ALLY DIED? NOOO IM GONNA PRETEND LIKE HE WAS MY BFF AND USE THIS MOMENT TO BE A BADAss. DIE ENEMY!!!
Guys.. we won and everyone plot relevant is Alive.. but we lost guy who exists to jerk off the MC... ITS OVER.
Same, I was surprised when people were memeing about how sad it was, they can't hear that song without feeling sad, etc. I enjoyed the show but I just wasn't that invested in David or the main girl
I at least wasnt really sad for the characters, just I just felt bad that the world of the series is so fricking depressing and the whole 10 episodes never had a moment when I felt like things were good for the characters. Everything just went to shit until the end. Then again I have been having stressful times IRL too so this wasn't good escapism from my IRL troubles. Thats at least why this made me feel bad.
Same, I was surprised when people were memeing about how sad it was, they can't hear that song without feeling sad, etc. I enjoyed the show but I just wasn't that invested in David or the main girl
> Muh characters weren’t developed enough after 8 episodes.
Are y’all fricking moronic or have asperger’s and can’t relate to anything?
Ping Pong the animation is only two episodes longer and is a masterclass on writing characters and developing them. To mention ping pong in the same thread as this piece of shit shouldnt even be allowed. Curse you for even forcing me to make this comparison
I was waiting for the story to kick in, for the twists to come but they never came. David didn't even have his own goals as the MC, what did he want to accomplish? His and Lucys relationship also just seemed depressing, first they bickered, then they grew up and moved in together to seem miserable, it almost felt like no matter how much money or anything they got there were no goals to accomplish.
Then theres multiple examples of people going psycho from cyberware and our MC keeps telling he is special it wont happen to him so I was waiting for the twist or some thing to happen or him to actually be special, or to turn back when he starts to go psycho, but it never comes. He just goes psycho and dies like the rest of them.
its like, the character started from bottom and ended up in bottom, nothing happened.
It just feels really wrong, like what were they thinking, but at the same time, it feels acceptable because thats night city. Everyone ends up the same and is miserable, no matter how special they think they are.
I was waiting for tropes and twists to come, but they never came, everyone died and ended miserable.
It's bold, it's different, but at the same time doesn't feel right. I'm the biggest trigger fan so I was really hoping that I would love this show, I liked it, but did not love. Also the game fanservice was too much, I love the game but I know Imaishi as an old otaku doesnt understand shit about the game and CD projekt just kept telling him to put shit in for the fans, which muddled the project.
It's good, it's different, but it's not satisfying. Maybe.... 7/10?
Yeah but David never seemed to be, or even claimed himself to be a merc that wants to be a legend so even though I was thinking that it did not feel right for this character.
What was the scene that confirmed you were watching kino?
Maine going psycho was kino
He is actually the only person to come back from cyber psychosis. When he gets kissed by Lucy, he becomes sane again, it's just that he dies right after.
The whole point of his conflict is that he isn't living for himself or giving himself his own goals. He lives for his mother & then Lucy. That's why his story is tragic, he never got himself free enough to know himself. It's a masterclass story of actual Greek stoicism, it even kinda ends in Ekpyrosis.
I don't give a shit about the game, never played it so I don't know about any references. You got me there. The story is supposed to be kind of tragic yet hopeful, but ultimately futile. It's cyberpunk, it's a depressing genre
I think the futility wasnt portrayed as good as it could have, yeah he got to go to arasaka tower and lucy got to moon but it never felt tragic. Lucy getting into moon was kind of sad and depressing so at least it worked emotionally but I feel like the mother plot was kind of left in air. it just did not play too well, getting into top of arasaka tower should have been something that connected and put things together instead of being a throwaway line at the end "lol im here mom like u said remember that from the first episode?"
This is a shitty example but lets say the actual "top arasaka tower" was in moon, and david would have to go there to certain death. This would tie those 2 things together and maybe he could have sacrificed himself in a bit more meaningful and tropey way to give him a sad ending but to feel like he at least accomplished something. Then that moon depressing moon scene would come and make you think "wait, that accomplishment was actually for fricking nothing".
Im not saying every series needs to follow screenwriting rules and tropes, but since the ending didnt tie any loose ends, it feels like the show was written on the fly. You can have the show be a mess, but at least have an ending that kind of puts stuff together.
>I think the futility wasnt portrayed as good as it could have, yeah he got to go to arasaka tower and lucy got to moon but it never felt tragic.
It felt tragic to me. When he was talking to Rebecca about his mom and she knew it's over, she just smiled at him and agreed in a "this is it" way.
>Im not saying every series needs to follow screenwriting rules and tropes, but since the ending didnt tie any loose ends, it feels like the show was written on the fly. You can have the show be a mess, but at least have an ending that kind of puts stuff together.
Do you think First Blood is a bad movie?
The frick are you talking about? >He thinks he's special
He gets torn apart by Smasher
Becca loves David >Becca dies carrying a torch
Lucy finds love for the first time, & kills to keep David alive >He dies trying to protect her anyway
There was never going to be any happy ending. It’s a fairy tale for the end of the world. As in “It’s easier to imagine the end of the world than it is to imagine the end of capitalism”. One of these capitalist realism predictions is that in the future (or present, if you view things that way) products won’t be sold by espousing the value gained by their purchase- they’ll be sold by making the absence of owning those products agonizing. We see this when David’s bully has augmented body technology and he doesn’t. David’s goal is survival. If that doesn’t seem exciting, maybe that’s the point of the show. Something a lot of shonen anime series do is celebrate the “power up” as a means for the hero to defeat the villain. What this show does is turn that trope on its head. Gaining power is a tragedy if its cost means exchanging the remains of your humanity. David’s final power up is grotesque, divorcing him from his lower extremities and his capacity for having sex.
Has futility always been central to the cyberpunk genre?
There's certainly huge undercurrents of it in both installments of Blade Runner, plenty of it in Neuromancer. Altered Carbon runs on it. Not so much in The Matrix where Computer Jesus saves everybody, although oddly enough it creeps in for the sequels
Maybe it's the noir influence, this scene always comes to mind
The reason for the feeling of futility is because neo noir is rooted in film noir which was a reflection of how power was consolidated in the hands of a few powerful individuals in turn of the century Los Angeles. People like William Mulholland, Griffith J Griffith, the Gettys, and Howard Hughes could essentially buy the police, vice squad cops, and local judges. This is covered in Mike Davis’ book City of Quartz, specifically the chapter “Sunshine or Noir” if you’re interested in reading more about it
>Cyberpunk genre
I fricking hate the fact that dumbshits are still unable to distinguish the difference between Cyberpunk as a genre and Cyberpunk the universe made by Mike Pondsmith. In case you or anyone else was wondering yes, it's very central to the franchise, in anime, the video game, and especially the original tabletop games. Hell as an old school (Pondsmith) Cyberpunk fan I was pleased as punch to see the anime end in a way any real campaign with the homies would've ended, at some point it all comes crashing down for the characters in this world.
In fairness it's quite moronic to name one particular IP after the entire genre it belongs to

homie when do you think Cyberpunk 2020 came out? It came out in 1988, people weren't talking about Blade Runner as the new "cyberpunk" movie nor did people describe Neuromancer as the new "cyberpunk" book, the term was nowhere near as common place as it is now. It's been debated before if Mike Pondsmith himself even coined the term "cyberpunk".

There's a story from the early 80s called 'Cyberpunk' so he definitely didn't coin the term

MaxTac is comprised of cyberpsychos for the most part, or people hovering on the edge. It's why they are called the Psycho Squad. Melissa from the Bullets trailer is a cyberpsycho who went cyberpsycho because of her Mantis Blades implant, and although she isn't uncontrollable, she is still psychotic. This is evident by the dialogue you can have with her during the quest she pops up in the game. She literally sounds like she is in ecstasy as she talks about the feeling of killing and asks V if they feel it too. The way MaxTac works is that they all undergo countless hours of therapy and brain washing to weed out unsuitable candidates. Those who fail are culled. Those who pass get to keep living but only as MaxTac operatives. There is a questline in the game from a Fixer names Regina who tells you where various Cyberpsychos have been spotted and wants you to take them down non-lethally so that she can force them into MaxTac for potential recruitment. A lot of them die when they do.

The point is that David is tragic because he never knew who he was, never lived for himself and latched on to other people and lived for their dreams thinking it would make him happy and give him meaning.

He's a sociopathic mass-murderer. The only person who cared about him, who sacrificed everything she could for him, he immediately disrespected the second she died. There's nothing tragic about him, he is pure garbage. The only tragic character in the story is his mother.

90% of media is "the point is there is no point". you're the mainstream. even MHA (like all japshit) is an ocean of borderline nihilistic moral and ethical confusion with no goal or purpose or end in mind. so it's not the "gotcha" you seem to think it is.
>Something a lot of shonen anime series do is celebrate the “power up” as a means for the hero to defeat the villain. What this show does is turn that trope on its head. And it still wasn't even anywhere near enough, this was what made the anime for me, as someone who's sick to fricking death of the usual shonen bullshit this whole story was a real breath of fresh air. As someone who hates 99% of anime I was very very pleasantly surprised with what I watched, ironic how the anime came out with zero expectations whatsoever and turned out to be certified kino but the game was marketed to hell and back and is now just barely getting fixed years later.
>our MC keeps telling he is special it wont happen to him so I was waiting for the twist or some thing to happen or him to actually be special, or to turn back when he starts to go psycho, but it never comes. He just goes psycho and dies like the rest of them
damn you're so close to hitting the point
>It's bold, it's different, but at the same time doesn't feel right.
I felt exactly the same, anon. I didn't love how bleak and depressing it was, but making it that way was a bold move and perfect for the setting. It's grown on me the more I've considered it.
>its like, the character started from bottom and ended up in bottom, nothing happened.
You really never heard of a 'rags to riches to rags' story? His arc was in no way groundbreaking, this is a tried and true formula.
That's the because the world of cyberpunk is banal and filled with tired tropes that simply aren't either relevant or appealing. That includes the design and aesthetic of the world, the slang, the people, the overall motivation behind each character. Take even the mercs. "To become NC legend." Why? This is exactly what Johnny Silverhand tries to fight against, instead in the game he's made out to be a an anarcho nihilist with delusions of grandeur. It's subversion for the sake of subversion, aka lazy millenial writing. It's just as empty, vapid and meaningless as the world they inhabit. I very much prefer the themes of blade runner or take any dystopian cyberpunk setting from the last century in general, take Neuromancer for example. There's quite a few interesting aspects to the Cyberpunk franchise naturally but it's simply nowhere near as captivating in it's worldbuilding as it could, especially considering the level of flexibility the genre offers. To be completely honest with you, I've always thought Mike Pondsmith is a fricking hack. He literally stole so much shit and names his characters in the most idiotic manner, while using terminologies like rockerboy, while parading rockstars as anti-corporate revolutionaries. This is a mind of a man that mentally hasn't left the age of 12.
its kinda crazy how little animation there actually is here. its all carried so hard by character design, music, and camera movements. the character themselves are barely moving even during this supposed action scene
yeah but the important ones are top notch >compare final edgerunners fight and simon and the gang vs the anti spiral, it's night and day

Edgerunners doesn't have a single bad episode. All of them are great every single one. Now TTGL has many wasted episodes and just plot holes overall. I love TTGL but at least be honest that it has flaws.

you are either just finished it and still emotional over it or braindead, yeah edgerunners aren't bad, but overall it is way lower than ttgl, it's about highs and lows, former might have had better overall quality, but ttgl shined like fricking sun when it mattered, not even talking about character designs and ost, not a lot of people will remember david dying, but a lot of people will remember Kamina's sacrifice

>Edgerunners doesn't have a single bad episode.
oh, so its just boring and mediocre through out the whole show, great, I'll skip it
Not really. Chrome makes your brain ha e a hard time remembering its human, so things that you care about emotionally can help, as well has therapy in general. The tabletop calls this stat Humanity, as it's poetically about trying to retain your Humanity in an inhuman world. So love does help, but David was fully gone by the time Lucy kisses him, & David miraculously comes back into focus, no stuttering, no hallucinations, he has absolute clarity, memories, emotions, goals, cognitive function, etc. He is fully David again, & he hasn't downsized his cyberware, he is actually fighting for his life & everyone else so his emotions should be running incredibly high, & he doesn't have any drugs helping him. No one can do that. Usually you have to strip down your cyber, go to therapy on a routine basis, etc. it's a mix of PTSD & addiction. Your body literally needs to remember how to be normal, with normal human limits.
I don't know why this show really got to me so much. That moment when chroided David argues that he has no dreams of his own, his mom had a dream for him, Maine had a dream, and now they are his dreams, that was pure pain.

But you know how much you broke me apart
I'm done with you, I'm ignoring you
I don't wanna know, ahh
And I'm aware that you were lying in the gutter
'Cause I did everything to be there by your side-ide
So when you tell me I'm the reason, I just can't believe the lies
And why do I still wanna call you (call you, call you, call you)
So, what do you wanna do, what's your point of view?

Weird. Just been checking a few different lyric sites and it seems like there's a lot of confusion over that line.
Most sites say it's >there's a party soon, do you wanna go?

Some asian website said it's >there's a party screaming, do you wanna go?
The best part of this animu was how they mogged cdpr and clone warred smasher. I bet they did more research too because that guy was way underpowered for someone chromed to the gills. >add shit on phantom liberty >dont give smasher a sandevistan
Lazy fricking poles
The sad part is that the entire maxtac team in phantom liberty had it. The heavy was moving like the flash and you either had to activate your own or use explosives or let idris elba stun him. What a waste. I would have given him that animation at least and let him maybe shoot his heavy mg.
Lucy would have had David killed for his sandevistan in episode 2, but he still devoted the rest of his life to an older prostitute manipulating him.
He should have taken the Arasaka boss’s offer, what his mother wanted, he would have been able to make the world and community a better place from Arasaka.
David is a moronic thug who died of a drug overdose
What a lot of you homosexuals don't realize is that it tied in very heavily with the tabletop game mechanics just as much as the video game.
David wasn't special, he just had a high humanity stat by way of having a support network. As that network crumbled so too did his humanity stat.
That's partly why Adam Smasher is so potently powerful. He is well looked after and maintained by Arasaka.
Those complaining it was too short are fricking stupid. Short animes are superior over long ones. They get in tell the story and frick off. No bullshit filler. Which would have killed the series.
Tie in locations in the video game was cool. You can legit visit a lot of locations from the anime in the game and find items too.
Also the whole shtick of Night City and Cyberpunk in general is that there are no happy endings. Go to YouTube and watch the endings for the game. There is no happy endings there either and V really was special as opposed to David.
It was covered in the game that the implant wasn't supposed to work like that and V's personality was strong enough to fight the overwriting of Jonny's personality.
Also, V canonically can support much more cyberware than David and be on par with Smasher even though V didn't have a good support network. V's humanity stat is pretty low throughout the game.
Therefore V was actually special. He actually is built different.
If he were not, the relic would have simply overwritten V after getting shot in the fricking head, like it's supposed to do.
>No one can come back from psychosis
Despite the fact that Max Tec is full of ex psychos.
Learn your lore buddy.
V was still on a timer and was always going to die
David could have stopped at the Sandy, which should have fricked him up on it's own, and been fine
Everyone is on a timer in Night City, that's half the point of the setting.
Even IF David stopped at the Sandy, he still would have had a similar ending to everyone else in Night City. Because the cyberware isn't what killed him, it was his thirst for more.
>Everyone is on a timer in Night City, that's half the point of the setting.
Not directly because of an implant you installed that is actively killing you >Because the cyberware isn't what killed him, it was his thirst for more.
The cyberware does kill you due to making you go cyberpsycho because your body can't take it. There are plenty of people in Night City that can control themselves and don't try to go nearly 100% chrome. David couldn't control himself because he thought he was built different, which he was, but he wasn't Adam Smash tier different.

As stated in the same post, cyberpsychosis does not kill you. There are many that live after.
It’s destroys your mental and breaks you from reality because your brain can’t process the chrome properly. Which is why people can recover. Also many people get psychosis with little implants. Getting chromed up, hands long it and cyberpsychosis are all handled by humanity rather than physical ability.
David was always rushing to his demise. Literally the point of his character. Chrome or no.

One of the side missions in the game indicates that there is no cure for Cyberpsychosis and that there is no coming back from it. I don't know the lore about MaxTec other than they have military grade chrome, but if what the side quest implies is true then them being ex psychos doesn't make sense.

Yeah, you can get close to it, like Maine & David did for a bit, but like the chopdoc said, once you go, you can't ever go back, there is no cure for crazy. Smasher is a human at the absolute border of psychosis, hyper regulated by the megacorp to make sure he never goes over the edge

Ever think its just a corpo propaganda to cut down those that could stand against them?
By that logic there is a side quest that says the complete opposite and shows a recovered ex psycho, that now? Which is 'correct'? Perhaps the lore from the books which states and shows that you can recover from cyberpsychosis.
David is not special in this regard, nor is he the first and he wont be the last.
You really think that Smasher NEVER went psycho before? Never ever? Of course he has, he just recovered and learnt how to live with it thanks to Arasaka.

There are different grades to cyber psychosis. Once you start showing signs, you can mitigate it & recover, but if you go all the way your mind breaks, irrevocably. David came back from that though. He was 100% lucid because he was special & his love for Lucy

No, Smasher is a legit cyberpsycho psychopath. The only reason why Smasher is able to do what he does is because he was literally built different. He's never had any humanity in the first place and so psychosis didn't actually frick him over. David wasn't built different, he just thought he was because he has a fairly high capacity to adapt to new cyberware but tricked himself like a lot of these people do into thinking he can just keep getting more.

MaxTac is a bunch of borderline cases kept barely above loosing it completely, by a bunch of counter psychosis therapy, drugs, etc. But they aren't actually lost yet. Smasher is the exact same except taken to the absolute EXTREME range of tolerance. It also helps that Smasher is already a bit crazy, so his brain has more elasticity too.
Basically the corps pushed & experimented at how far you can push someone without them going over the edge, Smasher is there absolute limit, & MaxTec is the "assembly line version"
David is build different & was able to be cured from cyber psychosis
>Smasher was an angry little moron & wasted David, when he is potentially the most special person alive at that time
Smasher's a contract killer, it's not his job to make those kind of value judgments
The Relic is what allowed V to go out on the chrome. V could resist it overwriting them with Johnny but not completley stop it. However, it gave the benefit of constantly repairing his mind from psychosis as it simultaneously tried to wipe it. It's the reason can't go all out on chrome during the first chapter (From a lore perspective at least, obviously it was first and foremost a gameplay thing)
Relic doesn't activate until the person is dead, and V took it out of Jackie immediately after he died

I think when V got shot in the head the bullet fragments damaged the relic, making it behave erratically. Pretty sure Hellman tells you that it was designed to be inserted in to a "vacant" host, someone already dead. But since Jackie plugged it while he was still alive it didn't do anything.
When Placide questions you about what the relic is, he tells you that he can see it's broken.
Fair points, I concede my point on the relic business and V being special in the regards to the relic specifically.
I still think by merits of what both David and V achieved, V is clearly the special one.

V definitely achieved more than David, but that has nothing to do with being "special". They're just a better merc.

>I think when V got shot in the head the bullet fragments damaged the relic, making it behave erratically.
it was already damaged before they escaped konpeki plaza
>Those complaining it was too short are fricking stupid. Short animes are superior over long ones. They get in tell the story and frick off. No bullshit filler. Which would have killed the series.
The Series could have 2-3 Episodes more.
>That's partly why Adam Smasher is so potently powerful. He is well looked after and maintained by Arasaka.
Any other stories where the villain has the power of friendship?
>Tie in locations in the video game was cool. You can legit visit a lot of locations from the anime in the game and find items too.
you can actually follow the path the crew took from outside the city all the way to arasaka
it was sad, but not depressing really
he was going insane and it was clear that there will be no happy ending
now there are some good manga/anime that makes you think that everything will be allright but it doesn't, now that's kino
Trust me they get pegged at night or are into cuckhold.

How to tell your trans
There are certain animes that are just forbiden for any grown man to watch. Those anime's are: >Romance anime >Sports anime >Moe anime
If you watch any of these then you are gay or a troony. The only exception I can think off is Spy X Family because it promotes traditional marriage.
You stink of reddit bro, atheist wash yourself before coming in here

romance can be acceptable if you are actually romantic, since no girls nowadays are like that
i agree on the other two though, can't imagine a man who would watch that
A lot of modern sport anime is very obviously aiming at girl viewers. Cute boys doing cute gay stuff and fighting and shit. It can still be good but yeah.

I tried watching Baki once. First 5 minutes convinced me it was some homo-erotic shit for psycho weeb girls. Turned it off.
CHADflix shows breasts and sex in their anime and the virgin Japanese animes can't even show pantyshots or nudity without steam or beams of light covering everything
Maybe not a prostitute, but throwing your entire life away for her was moronic
His mom was a uppity criminal selling cyberware (& her ass) just to make her kid suffer with a future he didn't want. If she had aimed lower than a Corp enclave, they could have been happy.
That's what I hate, he could've learned from his mother mistakes, he could do whatever he wanted but instead he becomes a criminal too and end up dead, repeating the cycle he grew up with, just like most mafia/cartel stories.
He had no prospects after she died.
His bank account was zero, zero, zero, zero
He's a kid, he can't really work
Don't give me crap about taking the Arasoka deal, they would have just chopped him up, they never wanted to bring him into the fold

Just look at all the people doing fentanyl. People ARE morons.
His mom was a uppity criminal selling cyberware (& her ass) just to make her kid suffer with a future he didn't want. If she had aimed lower than a Corp enclave, they could have been happy.
His mother wasn't a hardcore criminal though. She looted the high-end equipment of the cyberpsychos, that got killed by MaxTac, so that she can sent her child to an advanced school.
She isn't a gang member that kills people, blows stuff up, or is stealing from the megacorps directly.
She wouldn't even do it int he first place if David's school wasn't so expensive.
His mom was a uppity criminal selling cyberware (& her ass) just to make her kid suffer with a future he didn't want. If she had aimed lower than a Corp enclave, they could have been happy.
What are you talking about? Even when we stretch the whole "top of arasaka tower" thing that thin, David's blaze of glory wasn't even enough to be a footnote in Night City. He didn't even make it past the loading dock.
She cannot sing to save her life lmao. It sounds like some random chick singing karaoke. They should have pushed the Pon Pon Sneed girls in the anime. At least they're semi talented and semi cute.
I wouldn't call it straight up depressing, his fate was sealed from day 1 so his death was expected. He made a life for himself, surrounded himself with people who loved him, he lived a good life so it's really more bittersweet if anything.
I don't consume media that pushes diversity with the exception of white males
why I stopped reading comics and why I will never watch netflix ~~*content*~~
I never watched Evangelion, especially at the time, so I don't know the exact pain other anons do, of growing older than Misatk, but I've watched the other series, and being too old for the "hot older woman" thing does suck.
Fantasy of the target audience. The average anime fan is an adolescent Japanese boy, somewhere between Junior High and High School. They're old enough to be interested in girls, and to fantasize both about their peers and adults. That's why it's such a common trope in anime fantasy stories for the hero to be in a love triangle with a girl about his age and a grown woman.
Also, to be blunt, Japanese culture is more comfortable with the idea of the "pretty young man". Women go to male host clubs for example, where the whole attraction is getting to drink and flirt with a college-aged dude.

What I love the most about this anime is how hard it buck broke tranimes and tr/a/nnies. >0 fillers, none, every second matters and is plot related. >For ONCE IN A DECADE, a tranime MC isn't a troony ultimate warrior that mogs EVERY SINGLE ENEMY he faces. Smasher shows up, David is dead in less than 4 fricking minutes. >The plot wasn't an over complex convoluted tranime mess. David wasn't an ancient shadow god like warrior created by the queef of a she god being in the body of a boy, he was a merc, S I M P L E.
It explains why it was reviewed bombed so much by cucktakus and why threads about Edgerunners are instantly banned from tr/a/nnyland, because it was an ACTUAL DECENT anime.
its ok bro she got to take a vacation on the moon
Any other Anime/Show in which the protagonists gets insta-raped by a much stronger enemy?
berserk
There's lots of moments in DBZ where this happens. It's basically a trope of the show.
Yeah, but do they actually die?
Yes? Another trope of the show is how everyone dies repeatedly and they have to keep using the dragonballs to wish them back life.
They even comment on it in a meta way several times.
Yeah that's why Goku turned super sayian, because Krillin had already died and brought back with the dragon balls.
Yes, but actually no.
This also happens in End of Evangelion and arguably at other points in the series too.
Attack on Titan has at least important side characters permanently die to overwhelming force
In general though the writing in edgerunners is so much higher than the standard in anime. The basic competent writer knowledge that there was no need for David to actually win that fight in order to "win" is well above the bar here.
damn
>wish them back an episode later
yep, this is one of the main points in Berserk.
the first time it happens is very popular and an often memed scene but it's definitely not the last.

Ending of Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans
I'll always kek at Gundam fans. But the show is totes dark and depressing! Haha OK buddy. Even when people die it's just a 12 year Olds usage of it. My MEANINGLESS ALLY DIED? NOOO IM GONNA PRETEND LIKE HE WAS MY BFF AND USE THIS MOMENT TO BE A BADAss. DIE ENEMY!!!
Guys.. we won and everyone plot relevant is Alive.. but we lost guy who exists to jerk off the MC... ITS OVER.
the characters werent developed enough for me to feel any meaningful attachment to them.
> Muh characters weren’t developed enough after 8 episodes.
Are y’all fricking moronic or have asperger’s and can’t relate to anything?
Hey Black personmouth, try watching real anime with just as many episodes and youll see real characterization
lol wow did i strike a nerve? your seething so hard my guy. chillax
also drop the animes then so i can be cultured.

Ping Pong the animation is only two episodes longer and is a masterclass on writing characters and developing them. To mention ping pong in the same thread as this piece of shit shouldnt even be allowed. Curse you for even forcing me to make this comparison
Lucy and Becca were definitely developed enough in the areas where it counts to get attached
Maybe.... 7/10?
Imagine watching it and not understanding the motivations of the characters, Jesus christ
>it almost felt like no matter how much money or anything they got there were no goals to accomplish.
All mercs in Night City have one goal: To be an NC legend. Simple as
Yeah but David never seemed to be, or even claimed himself to be a merc that wants to be a legend so even though I was thinking that it did not feel right for this character.
Maine going psycho was kino
Becca loves David
>Becca dies carrying a torch
Lucy finds love for the first time, & kills to keep David alive
>He dies trying to protect her anyway
It's all tragic, & you're a homosexual
In fairness it's quite moronic to name one particular IP after the entire genre it belongs to
>this moronic shit again
homie when do you think Cyberpunk 2020 came out? It came out in 1988, people weren't talking about Blade Runner as the new "cyberpunk" movie nor did people describe Neuromancer as the new "cyberpunk" book, the term was nowhere near as common place as it is now. It's been debated before if Mike Pondsmith himself even coined the term "cyberpunk".
There's a story from the early 80s called 'Cyberpunk' so he definitely didn't coin the term
cyberpunk doesnt know shit about despair
>The whole point of his conflict is that he isn't living for himself or giving himself his own goals. He lives for his mother & then Lucy. That's why his story is tragic, he never got himself free enough to know himself.
Doesn't MaxTech have a female soldier who was a rehabilitated Cyberpsycho?
MaxTac is comprised of cyberpsychos for the most part, or people hovering on the edge. It's why they are called the Psycho Squad. Melissa from the Bullets trailer is a cyberpsycho who went cyberpsycho because of her Mantis Blades implant, and although she isn't uncontrollable, she is still psychotic.
I was waiting for the story to kick in, for the twists to come but they never came. David didn't even have his own goals as the MC, what did he want to accomplish? > David didn't even have his own goals as the MC, what did he want to accomplish?
That was the point of his story.
>the point was that there was no point
Not really satisfying for me as a viewer.
Yeah but I'd do the same if I were David, no way I'm letting some homosexual nepobaby beat the shit out of me and then make fun of my dead mom
Not everything is made to pander to idiots like you. Go watch My Hero Academia or someshit.

>It's bold, it's different, but at the same time doesn't feel right.
I felt exactly the same, anon. I didn't love how bleak and depressing it was, but making it that way was a bold move and perfect for the setting. It's grown on me the more I've considered it.
Imagine being too dumb for the Cyberpunk anime lol
Based anon making netflix anime knockoff slop enthusiasts seethe.
>its like, the character started from bottom and ended up in bottom, nothing happened.
No sympathy for beanerfrickers
What was the scene that confirmed you were watching kino?
im cringing so fricking hard
its kinda crazy how little animation there actually is here. its all carried so hard by character design, music, and camera movements. the character themselves are barely moving even during this supposed action scene
all modern tranime is like this
its fricking shit
lazy talentless dogshit
I would much rather have a good aesthetically pleasing artstyle with minimal animation than well animated calarts dogshit
>LOOOOOOOK I'M ANIMATING
These homosexuals have never watched a trigger anime
they definetely used less budget on that than on ttgl, you must be trolling
Go watch TTGL again and see for yourself how many parts are poorly animated. Specially the middle part is just meh.
yeah but the important ones are top notch
>compare final edgerunners fight and simon and the gang vs the anti spiral, it's night and day
Edgerunners doesn't have a single bad episode. All of them are great every single one. Now TTGL has many wasted episodes and just plot holes overall. I love TTGL but at least be honest that it has flaws.
you are either just finished it and still emotional over it or braindead, yeah edgerunners aren't bad, but overall it is way lower than ttgl, it's about highs and lows, former might have had better overall quality, but ttgl shined like fricking sun when it mattered, not even talking about character designs and ost, not a lot of people will remember david dying, but a lot of people will remember Kamina's sacrifice
they are on differrent levels, simple as
>Edgerunners doesn't have a single bad episode.
oh, so its just boring and mediocre through out the whole show, great, I'll skip it
Jap studios usually dump budget on the start of the series and the ending. The middle episodes are often poorly animated and rushed.
Davido flipped a switch after Maine's death. No more bullshit, went straight Alpha Chad.
love how ice cold david looks here, he doesn't give a single frick anymore
Needs a side by side of his shellshocked face
best moment
FRICK
I DID NOT NEED TO CRY TODAY
So the cure for cyberpsychosis is love
Unironically yes.
It all related back to a person's humanity stat.
Your body literally needs to remember how to be normal, with normal human limits.
less of a cure and more like a delay
Holy shit the dub is bad, it makes a 6/10 series into a 4 the anglosphere was a mistake.
>MUH SNEEDPANESE ORGINAL

One cute touch in CP2077 is that some of the gang-members talk Japanese. CDPro did their homework.
homie u gay its a cartoon for troons
I don't know why this show really got to me so much. That moment when chroided David argues that he has no dreams of his own, his mom had a dream for him, Maine had a dream, and now they are his dreams, that was pure pain.
Holy fricking cringe
people who cringe the most are usually the cringiest
Sincere pathos is cringe
i cried like a b***h after the ending. The song still hits me in the feels

>So, what do you wanna do? What's your point of view?
>There's a party, screw it, do you wanna go?
>A handshake with you, what's your point of view?
>I'm on top of you, I don't wanna go
Pretty sure the lyric is
>there's a party soon, do you wanna go?
Nta posting from Google
I couldn't wait for you to come and clear the cupboard
But now you're gone and leaving nothing but a sign
Another evening I'll be sitting reading in between your lines
Because I miss you all the time
So, get away
Another way to feel what you didn't want yourself to know
And let yourself go
You know you didn't lose your self-control
Let's start at the rainbow
Turn away
Another way to be where you didn't want yourself to go
And let yourself go
Is that a compromise?
So, what do you wanna do, what's your point of view?
There's a party, screw it, do you wanna go?
A handshake with you, what's your point of view?
I'm on top of you, I don't wanna go
'Cause I really wanna stay at your house
And I hope it all works out
But you know how much you broke me apart
I'm done with you, I'm ignoring you
I don't wanna know, ahh
And I'm aware that you were lying in the gutter
'Cause I did everything to be there by your side-ide
So when you tell me I'm the reason, I just can't believe the lies
And why do I still wanna call you (call you, call you, call you)
So, what do you wanna do, what's your point of view?
There's a party, screw it, do you wanna go?
A handshake with you, what's your point of view?
I'm on top of you, I don't wanna go
'Cause I really wanna stay at your house
And I hope it all works out
But you know how much you broke me apart
I'm done with you, I'm ignoring you
I don't wanna know
Ohh
Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh
I don't know why I'm no one
So, get away
Another way to feel what you didn't want yourself to know
And let yourself go
You know you didn't lose your self-control
Let's start at the rainbow
Turn away
Another way to be where you didn't want yourself to go

most soulful part
Weird. Just been checking a few different lyric sites and it seems like there's a lot of confusion over that line.
Most sites say it's
>there's a party soon, do you wanna go?
Genius says it's
>there's a party, screw it, do you wanna go?
Some asian website said it's
>there's a party screaming, do you wanna go?
Well it's pretty garbled
Why didn't David just level up more
i thinking levelling up was the problem
The best part of this animu was how they mogged cdpr and clone warred smasher. I bet they did more research too because that guy was way underpowered for someone chromed to the gills.
>add shit on phantom liberty
>dont give smasher a sandevistan
Lazy fricking poles
>>dont give smasher a sandevistan
that would require the lazy pole gays programming the ai able to do that.
The sad part is that the entire maxtac team in phantom liberty had it. The heavy was moving like the flash and you either had to activate your own or use explosives or let idris elba stun him. What a waste. I would have given him that animation at least and let him maybe shoot his heavy mg.
Lucy and Songbird holding hands on the moon after Phantom Liberty, celebrating their status as the world's greatest Simp Destroyers
they actually changed that in 2.0. smasher does activate his sandy now when you do.
I was very happy to see david die at the end hahaha yes frick you Hispanic zoomer motherfricker die die die die DIE
Not really, David is very low IQ cuckold
Lucy would have had David killed for his sandevistan in episode 2, but he still devoted the rest of his life to an older prostitute manipulating him.
He should have taken the Arasaka boss’s offer, what his mother wanted, he would have been able to make the world and community a better place from Arasaka.
David is a moronic thug who died of a drug overdose
Arasaka would have done a few tests with David and then have Smasher rib his Sand from his back.
>Is a better song than IRWTSAYH
for me, its davids theme
i rewatched it recently and even when i was expecting it i still cried
>Short animes are superior over long ones
Truer words were never spoken.
>V really was special as opposed to David.
V wasn't special, the relic he implanted was
It was covered in the game that the implant wasn't supposed to work like that and V's personality was strong enough to fight the overwriting of Jonny's personality.
David actually comes back from psychosis, NO ONE can come back from psychosis.
Smasher was an angry little moron & wasted David, when he is potentially the most special person alive at that time
>No one can come back from psychosis
Despite the fact that Max Tec is full of ex psychos.
Learn your lore buddy.
Not directly because of an implant you installed that is actively killing you
>Because the cyberware isn't what killed him, it was his thirst for more.
The cyberware does kill you due to making you go cyberpsycho because your body can't take it. There are plenty of people in Night City that can control themselves and don't try to go nearly 100% chrome. David couldn't control himself because he thought he was built different, which he was, but he wasn't Adam Smash tier different.
Adam Smasher can't go cyber psycho because he's already psycho
Nah, David is build different. Smasher might be close to how David is, but they also keep that chrome psycho very controlled & locked down 99% of the time so he doesn't go over
As stated in the same post, cyberpsychosis does not kill you.
>By that logic there is a side quest that says the complete opposite and shows a recovered ex psycho
Which quest?
There are different grades to cyber psychosis. Once you start showing signs, you can mitigate it & recover, but if you go all the way your mind breaks, irrevocably. David came back from that though. He was 100% lucid because he was special & his love for Lucy
>recovered ex psycho
Recovered is pushing it. She's clearly still insane and the only thing presumably still keeping her from going psycho is whatever meds MaxTac is pumping her with
Recovered more than David did. It still shows that it happens and David is not the first.
David was 100% fine after he kisses Lucy. Not a single symptom after
Being lucid for 5mins after recovering some humanity is not the same as being recovered.
Don't move the goalposts homosexual.
I'm not, if you compare the Melissa Rory case to Davids you can see the difference.
David would have just snapped again after Lucy was gone from view.
Meanwhile Melissa can function as part of an elite policing squad designed to take down other psycho's months or years after her psychotic break.
You dumb fricking Black person.
You are pulling all of this out of your ass, you have no proof, & refuse to accept the proof given to you
I literally posted the proof:
Its literally in the lore of the rulebooks thats where a lot of Max Tec comes from. Learn the fricking read.
See
Also that is my point that David never recovers even if he becomes lucid for a few mins.
But the Melissa character actually does recover in a meaningful way, mostly because she had the care. As too did Smasher.
Blow it out your ass Cinemaphiletard. You can't just make up shit about him being lucid "for a minute". He didn't relapse. He was cured. You're a fricking moron who doesn't even understand what cyber psychosis actually is
Calling me a vtard yet you believe in the power of love being a cure-all? What a fricking homosexual you are.
You ask for proof, I posted it.
There is no way for David to recover after the events of Arasaka tower. He will relapse within the hour. Lucy's kiss is not enough to help David recover. The guy needs fricking limb transplants and therapy.
Get a fricking grip.
He was built different
Based quads of truth
>Get a fricking grip.
He's not the one refusing to accept that the power of love being a cure-all might JUST be the narrative trope being deployed in a fricking Netflix series and treating it like it's a fricking documentary and not a cliche filled cartoon.
>As too did Smasher
No, Smasher is a legit cyberpsycho psychopath. The only reason why Smasher is able to do what he does is because he was literally built different. He's never had any humanity in the first place and so psychosis didn't actually frick him over. David wasn't built different, he just thought he was because he has a fairly high capacity to adapt to new cyberware but tricked himself like a lot of these people do into thinking he can just keep getting more.
Fair, but he also has a live feed direct to his handlers, who should have done something.
My headcanon is that David is alive in an Arasaka basement getting mutilated & experimented on & a pregame Lucy will have to get a crew & save him
V was still on a timer and was always going to die
David could have stopped at the Sandy, which should have fricked him up on it's own, and been fine
How do explain the fact that Jackie died with the implant and V did not?
Why did the relic work for one person but not the other?
V was special.
Relic probably needs time to activate. V pulled it out right after Jackie died
Jackie died from gunshot wounds
So did V, in the fricking head.
Relic doesn't activate until the person is dead, and V took it out of Jackie immediately after he died
Pretty sure Hellman tells you that it was designed to be inserted in to a "vacant" host, someone already dead. But since Jackie plugged it while he was still alive it didn't do anything.
When Placide questions you about what the relic is, he tells you that he can see it's broken.
Those is my only criticism. Just a few more episodes, not many, just to let it breathe a bit.
Depressingly bad yeah.
>David shoots some random lady in the face
Frick him glad he died.
Nobody cares, frick off Wrong board
>43 posters in thread
>1 homosexual screeching to go back to Cinemaphile
Yes nobody cares anon...
You should though.
0/6
>2012
they had 8 years to work on the game and that was the best they could do?
I think they got 5 tbh, its a fun mindless number go up shooter with pretty set dressing
depressing she didn't die along with the rest of them
it was sad, but not depressing really
he was going insane and it was clear that there will be no happy ending
now there are some good manga/anime that makes you think that everything will be allright but it doesn't, now that's kino
edgerunners is pretty fricking cringe if you ask me
how about you Black folk watch some good anime
And what is some good anime?
he's obviously from Cinemaphile so i'd guess boku no pico or some moeslop, go on, enjoy it anon!
Komi Can't Communicate
My Happy Marriage
Edgerunners
Little Witch Academia
>my happy marriage
hinatachads... we won again
Who the frick is that?
That is NOT my darling Miho
Kanno Miho?
Miyo Saimoro
Sorry for the earlier typo.
How to tell your trans
There are certain animes that are just forbiden for any grown man to watch. Those anime's are:
>Romance anime
>Sports anime
>Moe anime
If you watch any of these then you are gay or a troony. The only exception I can think off is Spy X Family because it promotes traditional marriage.
reddit spacing
>I CANT HECKING DEAL WITH THE SPACING
go frick yourself
I know two grown men that still watch sports anime and both are married to pretty good looking women
Checkmate chud
Trust me they get pegged at night or are into cuckhold.
Case and point.
You stink of reddit bro, atheist wash yourself before coming in here
Those two men are definitely fricking each other
I'm a married man you cringey little homosexual, My Happy Marriage is literally all about the importance of traditional marriage, motherfricker & I will frick you up if you say something so fricking stupid again you ignorant chucklefrick
romance can be acceptable if you are actually romantic, since no girls nowadays are like that
i agree on the other two though, can't imagine a man who would watch that
never seen a sports anime, what makes them gay and troonylike? i would think those would be acceptable for men
A lot of modern sport anime is very obviously aiming at girl viewers. Cute boys doing cute gay stuff and fighting and shit. It can still be good but yeah.
I tried watching Baki once. First 5 minutes convinced me it was some homo-erotic shit for psycho weeb girls. Turned it off.
Baki is hilarious
>everybody who likes things I don't is a troony
Meds. Now.
Oxymoron
The latest good anime I watched was actually akebi chan
I caught up with JJK recently but its pretty much slop but still sometimes fun. Also it has pretty good animation but that its about it.
gay shit about schoolgirls doing literally fricking nothing for 600 episodes, presumably
Girls und Panzer
>tranime
CHADflix shows breasts and sex in their anime and the virgin Japanese animes can't even show pantyshots or nudity without steam or beams of light covering everything
but they also rape Castlevania, i won't stand for this, frick those Black folk
I think they banned swimsuits too
>tfw never be a sad quiet yamato nadeshiko cinderella married to a cool japanese unit 731 chad
sort yourself out mate
>keep reading new manga
>keep watching new anime
>still nothing has ever topped the GOAT
based siscon lad
really though, fp was great, better than csm for sure
it was mid, jack
whatever, choom
Whats more depressing is how neutered the new Panty and Stocking is gonna be.
SO
GET AWAY
Her smile restored
The dead of his mother was in fricking vain, why would he sacrifice for a prostitute like that? What a fricking waste, he was reduced to a simp
what do you mean? he achieved the dream she had for him
He didn't made his mother proud, he failed her, for a prostitute.
lucy is NOT a prostitute
Maybe not a prostitute, but throwing your entire life away for her was moronic
That's what I hate, he could've learned from his mother mistakes, he could do whatever he wanted but instead he becomes a criminal too and end up dead, repeating the cycle he grew up with, just like most mafia/cartel stories.
He had no prospects after she died.
His bank account was zero, zero, zero, zero
He's a kid, he can't really work
Don't give me crap about taking the Arasoka deal, they would have just chopped him up, they never wanted to bring him into the fold
Life isn't black and white, even with zero money you could do other shit just not to fall on the same vicious cycle of crime neither taking that deal.
Frick it he was a moron, goddamn
>Frick it he was a moron, goddamn
Again, he was a kid with emotions running high after his mom's death
can't expect him to act as you would
That’s the point. There wouldn’t be much story if he just kept his head down and worked for Arasaka
Just look at all the people doing fentanyl. People ARE morons.
He didn't even make it past the loading dock.
he has a drink named after him in the Afterlife
You probably didn't play the game which is fine but what
said plus fixers know of David and mention how awesome he was.
No, I played it before the viral marketing "redemption arc," homosexual.
>homosexual
well frick you too you pus filled Black person
that hits right in the feels
I wish it had been 24+ episodes. Could've been Cowboy Bebop 2.
>wanting filler episodes and just dead air
no thanks
its good as is tbh, maybe 2 more episodes to flesh out a few more things but doubling the length would've killed it
That song blows when performed live btw
She cannot sing to save her life lmao. It sounds like some random chick singing karaoke. They should have pushed the Pon Pon Sneed girls in the anime. At least they're semi talented and semi cute.
>Trigger
yeah, depressive studio
>yeah, depressive studio
Anon, they just put out a movie all about the power of friendship and love
I don't like sad endings so I didn't watch the show past the first few episodes.
>I ain't your average sicko
>I'm dead, just like disco
>My bank account is zero, zero, zero, oh no!
just like me fr
I haven't watched an anime since Space Dandy. Has there been an anime to surpass it since then?
AD Police has 2 kino cyberpsycho episodes.
Anime seriously degraded in these 30 years.
Did the Cyberpunk tabletop game just lift the idea of cyberpsychosis straight from this?
Anime got it's ideas from Western SF writers. Everyone is inspired by everyone.
Why does this reddit moron keep sucking V's dick?
Anime has unironically ruined my perception of love and relationships
>tfw no w*man will ever love you the same way lucy loves david
My lil homie Davey got GROOM'D
What's with anime and older women grooming teenaged boys?
Nazuna didn't do anything wrong, she just wants a friend.
But does that friend have to be a 14 year old?
That said, she's a vampire, it's in her nature to be a groomer.
>But does that friend have to be a 14 year old?
Yes.
I never watched Evangelion, especially at the time, so I don't know the exact pain other anons do, of growing older than Misatk, but I've watched the other series, and being too old for the "hot older woman" thing does suck.
>and being too old for the "hot older woman" thing does suck.
Oh no, anon.
You're not over 40, are you?
I'm 27, 28 in 2 months, milf types, at least the ones in anime, are only 2-5 years older than me.
Joke's on you. I still feel like an emotionally stunted child because I'm a permavirgin.
>I'm a permavirgin.
So am I, and I'm probably a bit of manchild, but I'm still painfully aware of my age.
Perhaps being a bit of a manlet ontop of everything else helps me deceive myself into forgetting how old I really am.
Women go to male host clubs for example, where the whole attraction is getting to drink and flirt with a college-aged dude.
but good
You homosexuals keep shitting on Cyberpunk but none of you can name a better anime that came out this decade.

the most astroturfed anime to ever touch this board.
Studio Trigger only makes garbage and this was no exception.
For me it was the awful CGI trucks that were totally impervious to harm from impacts or anything else until they needed to be destroyed by the heroes and then just exploded like Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
I think that was supposed to be a reference to the game's car physics.
This anime is a good litmus test for if a human has have empathy.
Should I watch this? How pozzed is it?
please respond
Up to you, bro.
not pozzed at all unless you consider the main character being hispanic pozzed, even though its never brought up
ok, thanks

One more of them and I'm nuking cados on that shithole of a board
Way to go making him look smart in comparison
