Out of curiosity I have a question about the games. I have only played NV to completion, and I played like the first 2 hours of Fallout 3 and happen to know the twist for fallout 4. They all seem to follow a similar structure which is exit vault, find dad/family member. Without too much spoiling, beyond these similarities, are the stories of F3/4 different than the show in the grand scheme, or did the show basically replicate the F3 story or something? I'm just wondering because despite how mediocre the show is, it did get me in the mood to play some fallout I haven't played before, but don't want to if its all the same story told 3 times.

The first and the last episodes are probably the best, first because the wackyness isn't too overplayed yet and last because again most shitty jokes are gone and it's just BoS killing bunch of raiders posing as NCR and Mr. House and New Vegas cameos.
If you don't have any attachment to Fallout in general you aren't losing much. It's pretty generic, lots of low brow jokes and a meandering message about how people kill each other and corporations will destroy the world just to get their way.
If you have attachment to Fallout you'll probably hate it because aesthetically it's a mixed bag in terms of accuracy but absolutely drops the ball when it comes to lore.

Walton Goggins Ghoul is fine but the writing on him a bit spotty as he is supposed to be this quippy badass but some of his lines just fall flat. Also the writing is very tryhard to be mature and edgy. There is no subtlety to how they want to present the idealism vs cynicism theme. The show looks fine for the most part but that can only help a show so much.

I gave it a shot, thought it might be ok through most of the first but could barely make it through the second episode. The whole show outside the vault looks cheap, the set of the first city they go to looked terrible and was populated by extras in laughably bad costumes just randomly walking around with dumb expressions on their face. The acting is pretty bad across the board, distractingly so at times. The writing is awful. If all it takes for you to enjoy a show is seeing things you recognize from a game you played, then sure go for it.

The show's a 7/10, held back by the constant interracial shit that pops up, a female lead, an a female to male troony that appears in multiple episodes. On the interracial shit, there's loads of black women shown in flashbacks from the past, including a scene where two black women are propositioned for an interracial three-way. One of the main character's, who's a ghoul has a black wife and mixed race daughter. The main character Lucy, also repeatedly lusts after a black guy.
There's also Trump stuff, where "make America great" is said. The show is watchable despite this.

I never played the vidya game so I've got no dog in that hunt but as others have pointed out, it's saturated with woketared political correctness (i.e. Black people everywhere, White chick+Black guy, honest hard working 1950s White people are dumb, etc,) but one could overlook that if the writing wasn't such shit.
It's simply a lame tv show, with long scenes of pointless fighting and irrelevant nothing, as they're obviously padding out the story. They spent a bunch on money on the underground bunker sets though and at least the main character chick is a q.t. and easy on the eyes.

I like it well enough. Production design is good, I like the main characters well enough. It does a decent job of adapting the tone of the fallout games of mixing goofy comedy with brutality. I was expecting a flop because Westworld was pretty bad, but was positively surprised.

Why even make the protagonist of the show a vault dweller if you're not going to explore that side of it at all? The only thing they seem to be playing to is her naivety, but as far as life in the fricking wasteland they just completely have ignored it. You don't even get like a nice and slow scene when she's first left the vault its just a meme moment of "okey dokey" and then some music playing over her walking.
If you're going to make the wasteland a character, what better way to do it than explore it through the eyes of someone that hasn't lived it? but it seems inconsequential to the plot.

If you usually agree with Cinemaphile, you'll probably hate it. To me, though, there was enough to enjoy in spite of its shortcomings. It's not a show that will stick with you long after but I was engaged enough to binge it all at once. It's worth a watch if you have absolutely nothing better to do.

If the apocalypse happened not because of people being people and instead because Vault-Tec knowingly killed everyone then the NCR and Enclave aren't opportunists with conflicting ideals trying to conquer land, they're blameless heroes trying to reincorporate what Vault-Tec destroyed. The BoS's entire MO of hoarding technology so humanity doesn't destroy itself again loses all meaning. I could've predicted a complete lack of competence in the writing, but not a complete nullification of what makes Fallout Fallout.
The only good criticism and the only part of the show I really hated. The cartoonish meeting is forgivable but they go way too explicit with it, "and then we'll make a Fallout world setting we can do evil in and torture protagonists muhahaha".

Hasn't that slowly just been what they've been doing since Fallout 3? NV was possibly the most "serious" entry in the franchise, albeit probably not as dark as Fallout 1 but in terms of satire and how they treated the politics it was done well.
Bethesda did real bad with Fallout 4 and this just seems a continuation of that. Missing the point and making it more about the fun spectacle, its self parody, but it works I mean, they brought the franchise out of obscurity and it is now a mainstream name with a television show on apple.
