The positive aspects of psychedelics are only as good as your willingness to change. If you're committed to becoming a better, wiser person, then a drug like psilocybin can make it easier. I did shrooms for the first time about a year ago after spending my entire life being afraid of them, it's my favorite altered state experience that I've ever had.
I expected to have some bad freak out, because I've got horrific anxiety due to reasons I won't get into here, and weed just makes me uncomfortably paranoid for that reason, but mushrooms were a wholly positive experience. It's hard to explain, but it felt like my mind jumped to a different track, if that makes any sense, and my mental approach to everything was different, in a positive way. I no bullshit think that they at least helped me to get out of a really bad psychological state that I had been in for probably five years up to then, and therapy and SSRIs hadn't done jack.
Glad to hear it, man. I wish more people who deal with depression and anxiety would take psilocybin. The world would be a much better place.

This is an illusion that can be destroyed while under the effects of certain psychedelics, especially if the dose is strong enough. But to your point, after the drug wears off, it would be impossible to maintain this state of mind and be able to survive.
It's also worth noting that ego death is possible during deep states of meditation. It's like deep sleep but with an awareness of being.

Free will truly is an illusion on every front and the idea of good or evil is a lowly interpretation of reality and the many interactions seen at a base level of linear time progression.
