It's not that much of a stretch. You ever been around during an active shooter situation or when a foreign dignitary is in town being transported or when some sort of mass casualty event or natural disaster is occurring? You'd be shocked by how many cars there are in the city which look like any other busted civilian car or taxi that light up at a moment's notice with strobes and red and blue lights and go speeding toward the emergency. There are all sorts of crazy shit going on around you every day that you're never aware of.

I do think it's worth asking why this has become so bad recently though. In terms of reusing IPs I mean. Almost nothing that comes out is "original" anymore, it's all sequels, prequels, reboots etc. What shift happened that caused that, because it certainly didn't used to be the case.
It's always basically been like this. Now everything falls into existing universes if not being just a sequence of mainline sequels to a single IP. In the past it was just a bunch of movies ripping off breakout successful movies with worse budgets and worse executions. You can either have endless sequels or endless low quality copies. In the end you're only going to get 20 or 30 standout movies in both quality box office earnings per decade with a handful having lasting cultural impact. The rest is going to be endless sequeltrash or other generic popcorn flicks.

Nobody phoned it in in John Wick 3. What happened was actually that they tried too hard; they increased the scope and scale way too much when the stakes didn't cut it. They made John 1v2 guys from the Raid and then immediately 1v1 a boss. Fights were too long. Too intense for too long. Not enough playfulness in the editing or choreography like in 2. John was simply winning through brute force and endurance in 3 instead of outsmarting his enemies like in 2.
None of the gunfights in the series are that good tbh. CGI bullets and blood ruin it. If they had the balls to use squibs, these movies would be 10/10.

This isn't realy John Wick 4. The first movie was a bargain bin script that they 10xd the kill count in to make an action movie. They didn't start actually makign John Wick movies until John Wick 2, which is the peak of the series so far. I was honestly surprised it didn't end with 3. It's gotten so fricking ridiculous, especially considering how grounded the original one was.
I'll still watch it, mind you, but it's definitely a stretch.

All I know is I better get a lot more Lawrence Kinoburne in this movie than “You ready, John”. I already had expected him to be a bigger role in 3 and was disappointed.

The problem with the action past the first one is they make it too bombastic and it become a comedy. if you watched it carefully you can see literally that all bad guys throwing themselves to be shot by john wick, while in the first move he had to maneuver himself in tight spots hence the gun fu and make the action more believable. from 2 upward is just showing how stupid the bad guys is.

I'm glad we're getting away from realism. The best parts of these films was the action, and the creative setpieces they make have always been the most entertaining. A bunch of stunt guys getting together making crazy shit happen.
