one of the most based characters ever. too bad the series at some point dropped thebest side-character

About that, he was recently killed by an AI-hunter and Dredd didn't do anything about it because the hunter had a warrant for it.

      Dredd honestly didn't care.

        >happened back in Prog 2351 it was a story written by Garth Ennis

Oh come on, Garth has his strengths but letting him back into Dredd is not a good idea.

I'm not liking it as much post Chaos Day. Its still good but something of the charm is definitely missing.

Ennis even said he didn't do that great on Dredd.

Going through the case files in order.
      Got to 10.
      Loving almost every bit.
Hoping it continues to be light hearted, mildly edgy and good Sci-Fi/Fantasy where creeps get what they deserve and satire of fascism and bureaucratic/faceless/familyless society keeps making me laugh.
Miss Walter, hope he comes bac- ... bugger.
I'm dredding the moment more modern comic styles become prevalent, I don't really know how to describe what I mean beyond "Adding colour" or "Terrible layout" or "Wordswordswords", and will not touch IDW.

      Loved Stallone's, despite its flaws.
Hated 2012, glad Dredd wasn't a depressive post-90s political commentary.
Enjoyed the only 3D game, despite its flaws, and the acceptance that it's probably too hard to make a lawgiver work inside a game.

        Oh boy.

You should know that the Judge Dredd comics go all around the spectrum, when it come to tone. And it will get real edgy sometimes, or just depressingly dark.

It’s so funny how mangas have trained all you zoomers to hate color in your comics

          I hate anime and manga.
Some really old comics are ruined by colour just because of the printing styles/technology then. Sometimes the inker's style is better than what colour would do.
When you come to modernity you hit a lot of problems that are easy to associate with colour comics. Worse art, empty space, expansive speech bubbles... it just feels dead.

You can give me a post-digital comic made in black & white, and I can tell you it's shit. In the first or second Case Files there's a computer-made comic put into the back, by a competent but unenjoyable artist where Dredd is shooting up some creeps in an arcade... the quality difference between that and the original works is astonishing.

Image related is an example of what I'm talking about.
          Yawnsome layout.
Each panel a character is saying either exposition or something that doesn't matter. There is no action, a Judge is sat down, Dredd's on his Lawmaster, they're not doing anything.
          Repeating panels.
          >sat man
          >dredd bike
          >dredd bike closeup
          >dredd bike reverse
          >sat man closeup
          >sat man closeup closeup
The inker is fighting the colourist for control of the art.
The colour is amplifying rather than suppressing the terrible quality of the pencilling.
Dredd's signature pout IS NOT THERE. I can't tell if he's scarred or drooling.

If you were to ask me if I want a black & white or a colour print, I'd think the colour prints are going to be like this. I don't expect black & white to be bad, perhaps because the bad ones didn't survive the 20th century.

I loved A better World. One of my favorite recent arcs, only beaten by Hershey's last case.

I hope they do something a bit more silly for the next prog, though.

Wanting to get into Dredd, do I just buy the Complete Case Files or do I just grab the 2000AD comic and jump in?

      Anonymous

You can jump in anywhere. There isn't that many overarching plotlines that require homework to understand what's happening. Just occasionally they'll reference a past event or character, but it won't detract from the story.
