I gotta say it was a crime for me to take so long to watch this show Its really fricking good and it sucks that it got canceled but what was up with the bullshit of Terry being Bruce's son? It felt out of no where. Also any of the comics worth reading if I want more batman beyond?

i stopped at season 2, should i bother watching season 3?
I liked it
yes
It was canned due to the team wanted to work on justice league
I thought it was because of the network?
Of all the capeshit movies that get made Batman Beyond is the only thing I'd like to see adapted.
It’d be like Bladerunner combined with TDK
Anon, don't tease me like that.
I am worried about it getting butchered by WB in someway
He is Bruce's son. Ever since his real dad died Bruce became for all intents and purposes his father. Terry shapes himself to be like Bruce.
Yeah obviously I get that Bruce is a father figure for Terry but making him his actual son feels really stupid. If the show wasn't canned and got a 4th season it probably would have been handled better.
The thing means nothing. Look at Damian, he's an actual son of Batman and is a little piece of shit.
Terry's good because he's good, not because he's someone's son.
>Terry's good because he's good, not because he's someone's son.
What was even the point of making him Bruce's biological son in the first place if it doesn't mean anything?
Fulfilling someone's Bruce obsession/cuck fetish, likely Timm's
That's exactly the point. The episode blatantly states that Terry's triumphs are his own and not Bruce's. Waller tried to make her own Batman and realized that it's impossible.
Terry ended up as a good Batman but one way different; good on its own merits for its own challenges.
Which all a nice conclusion they could've come to entirely without the clone shit
If you want to recreate Batman, what better way than to literally close Batman? Just training another guy wouldn't cut it: Waller -who is not a good guy or sound of mind, the show states- wanted to literally xerox Batman.
>close
CloNe, fricking autocorrect.
The real question is why didn't they add Kryptonian DNA
>NO, HE MUST BE BATMAN
... which is completely undercut by the fact that, at the end of the day, he IS bruce's biological kid. So maybe the batman thing IS just inherited.
And that's why the whole "Bruce is Terry's real father" is some of the most moronic shit in the batman universe.
Because having the essence of Batman being a state of mind instead of something like "lol genetics" is so much more powerful.
The issue is they just kind of had a convoluted plot to arrive back at what we always knew.
The idea was pretty obviously that you couldn't just clone what drove Batman hence the mental profiling. Though ultimately it failed, and maybe they just never worked out the cloning kinks of the Ultimen so you'd have Batmen but they'd all just keep dying within years.
Again it's an idea more convoluted than it's worth.
Yeah, you're not alone. I remember the reaction when that episode came out, a lot of people thought it was lame.
>If the show wasn't canned and got a 4th season it probably would have been handled better.
Terry being Bruce's DNA son was always intended, but I think the original plan was for Catwoman to be the mastermind behind it instead of Amanda Waller.
>it was a crime for me to take so long to watch this show
That's how I feel about me waiting till this year to tackle Batman The Brave and the Bold. But I think it's good too. I wouldn't have appreciated the characters and writing if I'd watched it just a few years ago. I'd actually tried and not made it past the first episode.
The beyond comics suck honestly
that sucks I was looking forward to more beyond.
Actually the first two vols are decentand actuak canon to the show.
Newer comics aren't set in the DCAU but in Earth 12 which is inspired by Beyond setting and characters.
I hear the rebirth run of Batman Beyond is good, its about Terry back into the game after Bruce died, so no mentor anymore.
Forget all the stupid crap in Future State and Tim Drake as batman beyond.
neat, i'll check it out.
Didn't they straight up kill Terry and replace him with one of the old Robins?
The genesis of Terry as Bruce's son comes from an abandoned DTV movie about Catwoman cloning legions of Bruce clones, with one particular one being creepy close to her as a perfect clone of young Bruce, but also considered Selina his mother. Terry was going to be one of Selina's clones that didn't work out. So its always been planned even before it was repurposed in JLU.
>what was up with the bullshit of Terry being Bruce's son? It felt out of no where.
It's dumb as hell, yeah.
The writers realized that Terry and his brother had black hair, which neither of their parents had. So they made up the "Bruce's son" thing on the spot.
Thats it.
Terry also has blue eyes. Maybe not making his parents' eyes black is laziness on their part, but it might hint at them wanting to do the Terry-Bruce connection early on. It's still really stupid though even if it was meant to be this way from the beginning - Terry doesn't need Bruce to be his dad to be an awesome character. In fact I think it just sullied him a bit.
Good for you anon
For that Batman Beyond could come back with a new animated movie soon.
Dee Dee twins should've been used in the comics instead of Punchline
Terry doesn’t have enough character moments throughout the show
Ive wanted to check it out but idk man it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth with BTAS being canceled and bruce winding up in the batcave alone, nightwing is dead, alot of the characters were abandoned. Also you guys know Batman beyond wasnt canceled right? dini and timm stopped making the show because they said they "ran out of ideas"
If you haven't yet watch the epsidoe in Justice League Unlimited that serves as an epilogue type to Beyond
