it fell off after the first or second episode
I just rewatched it today. You are supposed to think, wow that was refreshingly good but why the hell is season 2 taking so long? Christopher Walken is going to die at this rate.
>I just rewatched it today. You are supposed to think, wow that was refreshingly good but why the hell is season 2 taking so long? Christopher Walken is going to die at this rate.
because it's going to ruin season 1 due to them being unable to stick the landing. It's mystery box bullshit, tv falls for this every time.
Nah, mystery box shows are nothing without their litany of mysteries. In this show, the mysteries are just a secondary source of interest to the setting, plot and characters.
See, look at the cope, it's already present. No matter how many times shows pull this trick in season 1, they never learn.
What mysteries are there really? What are the baby goats for? What are they really doing on their workstations? The map and second elevator?
The last one is the only major plot point and I couldn't give a shit if the other things are explained or not individually, although they should be as part of a greater mystery of what Lumen actually does.
>The last one is the only major plot point and I couldn't give a shit if the other things are explained or not individually, although they should be as part of a greater mystery of what Lumen actually does.
kek. it's ridiculous how this is all going to retroactively ruin season 1 because none of it can be satisfying in execution. I don't know how people can keep falling for this after Lost.
The LOST morons have nothing to do with this show. Sounds like you have unresolve trauma from watching that trash for 5 years or whatever.
Not hard at all. The office persona wins and lives outside, effectively killing the one that enslaved it.
Second season will be garbage. I don’t know why I feel that way but I just do. Everything interesting they could do with the premise happened in season 1. Unless they follow a different group, I just don’t see where they can take things from here.
>big controversy with Lumon vs Mark S, his sister, Helly potentially and Ricken.
>innies being punished in terrible ways
>expanding upon the combat infographics (Lumon is creating mindless soldiers, also they want to enslave humanity)
>the security room had other features than Overtime, like Clean slate which means mind wipe, I suspect this was done to Irving a few times which is why he paints the retirement room with such fervor.
Plenty that can be done.
>innies being punished in terrible ways
Now that I think about it. Imagine being a supervisor there, seeing a smoking hot innie who is a fresh hire, groom her into being your wife in a matter of days, and then escape with her.
well getting fired is basically getting killed to the innie, so there's a lot to do
Because that's Cinemaphiles opinion for literally every show, only the first season with infinite potential left can ever be good, once they decide what direction to go it's the wrong one.
It's like the double slit experiment where as soon as it is observed it changes
The Boys Season 2, Mr. Robot Season 2 and Westworld Season 2 are modern exceptions, where the reason the 2nd season went to shit was strictly for creative reasons. In current era the usual reason a show goes to shit in S2 is because it becomes so popular it popped up on the radar of the pozzed police and now has to be used as a vehicle to advance lgbtqabc+ civil rights.
Of no, not the civil rights for the citizens
stfu gay
Yeah that's a bad thing.
Westworld expanding to other parks was a great idea and done fairly well. The hate for s2 is always the same but no one ever discusses it.
S3, on the other hand.... ho
lee
sheeeeeeeet
The problem with S2 is the writers are all gays and lived on places like r*ddit and literally made changes to their story when people came up with ideas for what would happen in S2.
Proofs?
I keep meaning to rewatch it.
Writers and industry types obsessing over online forums and ruining things has been real since the dawn of online forums back in the late 90s. It's still done and when they don't they use focus groups to essentially do the same thing but in warp time.
absolutely true in this case. Well, I won't use the word garbage. It will just be different.
I liked homeland season 2, but it was almost a different show, same for westworld, severance isn't that far off.
mulatto women owe me sex
>mulatto women owe me sex
it's true
s1 was only good if s2 is good
if it's just endless mystery box bs then I don't want to watch
>good but not great
>a little bit worse copy of Counterpart
>suffers from westword desease
>the ending was messy
>there will be no 2nd season
A you guys from opposite land or something? The end of the season it what makes the show. It was all slow setup and buildup before that with no idea that the payoff would be so strong.
I liked the slow set up, but after the reveal all directions that it can take seem uninteresting to me.
I understand the necessity for the plot to include it but "real world" functioning of Lumen doesn't interest me at all.
the payoff isn't deserved because it only raises more questions than answers. Without a season 2 yet, the s1 ending just falls flat hyping so much up but not resolving ANYTHING
This.
It felt like a cheap cliffhanger and retroactively turned some of the previous episodes into a filler.
I started to doubt if the writers have any bigger idea for the show or is it Lost tier bullshit.
>but not resolving ANYTHING
wut?
It does the best possible thing, which is to give actual answers but then ADD more questions. Which is where you are slightly confused on the matter.
By the end of the season we find out the two biggest questions. Which is who his wife was and that she is alive. Then we also find out about why the womans outie absoutely refuses to let her quit. Those are LEGITIMATE answers. You just overlooked them because they are followed up with even bigger questions.
Sir, this is Cinemaphile no one watches anything here.
Sorry I forgot. nvm
yeah I won't judge him, I missed the tree thing in marks therapy the first time
>the payoff isn't deserved because it only raises more questions than answers
this. Very lazy. Many such cases
why the FRICK was Counterpart canceled? it's not fair
Because nobody watched it. (although I did) It came out in a time where nobody even knew Amazon had tv shows. Like I've never even remotely come across anybody in RL that has heard of Counterpart or Bosh. It wasn't until The Boys that put Amazon on the radar.
I thought it was on like Starz or Shotime
>Starz
I want to know WHO THE FRICK in this world has Starz? Like srs question. How does that channel make money?
Cable or whatever packages it with their subscription. Also, they're on season 50 of Power, the street hustle fantasy soap opera series.
>looks it up
wtf this show sounds great
>After Starz canceled the series after two seasons, the series' production company, Media Rights Capital, sought another home for the show;[42] however, the effort was not successful.[43] Starz COO Jeffrey Hirsch commented on the cancellation, saying Counterpart was "a very male show" and that "we had picked that show up and made a two-season commitment before we'd honed in on this premium female strategy".[44]
>Starz COO Jeffrey Hirsch commented on the cancellation, saying Counterpart was "a very male show" and that "we had picked that show up and made a two-season commitment before we'd honed in on this premium female strategy".[44]
did some marketing agency sell the same snake oil to every administrator at once or what?
No, men just tend to spend less money on bullshit and all the marketing agencies know that.
>Counterpart was "a very male show"
Sounds good but did the premature cancellation frick it up?
Interesting premise and coop atmosphere but falls apart by the end of the season
Taking way too long for S2.
That ass, though!!!
First six episodes, 7/10.
Last two episodes, 10/10
The ending is orgasm inducing. Season 2 needs to fricking get here.
Calling it now, they've been training a big brain in a tank. It's gonna go full sci fi
Entertaining but overrated with an ending that isn't fulfilling/season 2 bait
You are my only friend on Cinemaphile.com
That half black fat guy went from chump to chad in the last three episodes. It was great to see.
didn't he even give up a three way with hot masked occult b***hes to help the others escape?
Foxy mama!
Yeah, the Tibetan fox.
What makes the show intriguing is exploring why people want to split their life from work and how innies are getting convinced what they do is important.
Lumen doing some evil corp supersoldier shit and imprisoning people inside is not interesting, just supercliche.
>no one watches anything here
gg ez
you wonder why eating a pancake stack is somehow tied to creepy occult ritualism
>I really liked being in the office with you all that day.
>My life has been 107 hours long. Most of that has been these half-hour sessions. For me, my favorite time was the 8 hours I spent in your department watching Helly. It's the longest I've ever been awake. I suppose it's what you could call my good old days.
;__;
>It's the longest I've ever been awake
except they never feel the time when the other/outie is active
her life from her perception would've been 107 continuous hours
Except she is the innie, her life is inside the company, so 107 continuous hours would actually be 385,200 seconds from her perception.
that's why i don't get why mark thinks signing up did anything for his grief
he cries going into the elevator and then he cries leaving the elevator and the 8 hours in between he never experienced
Wrong. She doesn't have an outie. She's an even more inhumane form of worker where it's permanent, she's a slave who "lives" in the building. She literally gets shut down at the end of her 30 minute shifts and turned back on when needed. Her being able to have an 8 hour task is the longest continous time she's been allowed to be awake.
This was all shown. I can only assume you either really weren't paying much attention while watching or haven't finished the season
they showed from helly's perspective how she left work after on shift and then the elevator door opened for the next shift
having an outie or not is irrelevant because the fact is they experience time in one continuous chain
You're not listening to what I'm saying. Read the post again, she's a different type of worker there
it doesn't matter you idiot
she doesn't know or remember what happens on the other side and the moments this severed persona is active feel like one continuous period of time
the severed pregnant woman would be the same and her "life" would just be the final stages of pregnancy and giving birth multiple times in a row
These people don't get it. Whether the Innie gets switched off and has an Outie life, or just get switched off, is inconsequential to how they experience their segments of waking life.
>whether the human goes to sleep or gets put in a coma it's inconsequential to how they experience their segments of waking life bro its all just one continuous thing
this is how stupid you sound
I think if you don't understand this you actually have no imagination and it's not worth trying to explain it to you. The second post you quoted explains it as simply as possible
I missed the part where they showed us the coma chip.
That's not a valid comparison. Innies being shut off is not comparable to sleep with dreams, or comas with an inner life of some kind. There is no inner experience or dream for the Innie during non-activated periods. They just blink in and out of consciousness in the elevator, or the basement, etc. from their own perspective. It doesn't matter if an Outie is then allowed to surface, or if the Innie is just shut off with nothing replacing it in the consciousness. Refuted.
In the specific therapist case which is being discussed we don't know that for sure. We have no assurance to how it specifically works. It is irrelevant to this argument though, I just referenced human sleep to insult how flawed your side is.
I'm gonna repeat what I said hours ago because there is no simpler way to explain what she meant when she said "For me, my favorite time was the 8 hours I spent in your department watching Helly. It's the longest I've ever been awake"
>She gets awoken, she does her 30 minute session, she goes back to the basement area and goes back to sleep. That's been her entire existence until one day she's allowed to go to a different part of the building and spend 8 hours doing things before needing to go back to sleep. That's a big difference and you're an idiot
It may very well be a "continuous" stream of existence from her point of view or (more likely) there is some vague awareness that time has passed. Either way, her statement that 8 hours is the longest she's been awake continuously is not a plot hole. It's an accurate statement. It's the longest time she has ever been allowed to operate without being reset.
I'm not going to argue anymore after this post. You can't disagree with this and be any type of honest. Refuted.
>Either way, her statement that 8 hours is the longest she's been awake continuously is not a plot hole. It's an accurate statement
I haven't said anything attempting to contradict this. I don't see that anyone else has either. The subject has always been the subjective waking experience of the Dicky Lickmine Innie as a unique Innie with no Outie life.
On an unrelated note, I would innie-outie her gynie.
Scroll up that is literally how the argument started newbie. It's both those things
You are the moron, the show is smarter than you. You've repeated yourself for the 3rd time now no one misunderstands what you're saying. We're talking about the specific therapist. That line was only said by HER for a reason. It's not a continuous chain for her, she literally gets switched off. She's functionally the same as a regular human who goes to sleep. She gets awoken, she does her 30 minute session, she goes back to the basement area and goes back to sleep. That's been her entire existence until one day she's allowed to go to a different part of the building and spend 8 hours doing things before needing to go back to sleep. That's a big difference and you're an idiot for needing it explained if you actually watched the show where it tells you all this
In her case you're basically arguing that life for a human is just one continous set of events. You don't even realise how ridiculous you're being
shows have logical inconsistences all the time and they're called plot holes moron
Your head must be full of holes since you have such trouble understanding the logic of what is written and prefer to bring up irrelevant things in reply instead of using reading comprehension to understand and say something relevant in return.
>they think the mystery of the dark hallway and elevator leading to lower levels is just a sleeping chamber for snow yellow
brainlets, both of you
you need to know when you've lost buddy
i expect your concession during the 2nd season when we see her other severed life
Holy shit. You need to rewatch the show, you literally don't know what the plot of her character is
>He thinks when someone describes their experience as going to sleep and waking up, they aren't actually experiencing going to sleep and waking up.
I don't understand the cognitive dissonance required to completely miss what is clearly implied for her character. i think that anon is actively recovering from a lobotomy.
>I don't know how people can keep falling for this after Lost.
I'd like to think they'd be smart enough not to make the same mistake twice, but we'll see.
>I'd like to think they'd be smart enough not to make the same mistake twice, but we'll see.
Who? Why do people think Lindelof and/or JJ work on this show?
From is Lindelof's new mystery box project and JJ is busy crashing Hollywood IPs.
You're being understood by those you claim don't understand you. You're just being disagreed with, because your claim has no supporting evidence and at this point can be called "not proven true", if not outright false. Thank you for coming to my Mongolian basket-weaving seminar.
>You're just being disagreed with
They aren't voicing disagreement, they are responding with non-sequitur and mistaking their own memory holes for plot holes.
No.
Wrong, saying some shows have plot holes to defend your head canon is not voicing your disagreement, it is trying to change the subject to some general case to avoid scrutiny of your specific claims.
Okay, good thing I haven't done that.
see
It was the reply just before
which is the one you replied to saying there was some kind of voicing of disagreement rather than an attempt to change the subject to how fiction is allowed to have plot holes.
Okay, I
(You)
see
but I'm not sure why you want me to do that.
I know, I can tell you don't understand logic at all and just don't get why a non sequitur change of is definitely not the same as voicing disagreement.
No I was referring to comments that I didn't make that you referred me to reviewing.
Also I deny that anyone was make non sequitur changes of [subject].
The post I replied to saying someone was being understood and disagreed with, was being understood and disagreed with by other users.
Heil Hitler, israelites did 9/11.
>you referred me to
If you don't want people to think its your opinion, stop trying to defend and justify it.
>Also I deny that anyone was make non sequitur changes of [subject].
Then you are definitely wrong because saying some movies have plot holes when it is pointed out that your head canon is clearly contradicted by what happened on screen is definitely an attempt to change the subject to deflect from your own poor logic.
The "plot hole" is the therapist's dialogue. She is clearly severed and does not either become asleep or awake between transitions. The writers momentarily forgot their own established lore and you lack the critical thought to notice.
If she experiences being asleep, then she is asleep, sleep doesn't necessitate remembering your dreams, it only necessitates the experience of being asleep which is what she said herself that she experiences when she is not being used as a therapist.
She doesn't though. You prioritize a single line of dialogue over the entire run time of the show, which is about the philosophical implications of being severed, is called "severance" and showed in great detail what it was like to be severed.
>She doesn't though.
She does, though, you pretend it is a plot hole rather than a subjective experience and ignore what actually happened on screen in favor of what you hoped would happen.
That's right, I favor objective over subjective.
Its just too bad sleeping is a subjective experience and you sound moronic trying to treat it like its not.
Innies don't sleep. Mark said as much to Helly and you just feel a bit more refreshed on Monday. Can you screenshot a bed for me inside Lumen?
>Innies don't sleep.
Innies that have outies might not since they are standing in an elevator when they come to and fade away, but according to the one lady that doesn't seem to have an outie, she does feel like she is asleep and awake and if the elevator just had a bed in it, the other innies would also feel like they were experiencing sleep.
>the one lady that doesn't seem to have an outie
You are too low IQ for this show.
I already accepted your concession and pointed out changing the subject is the only way you can continue the conversation since you are clearly in the wrong.
Here, take this napkin. Some of his concession is running down your chin.
Ah, you need feminine napkins, no wonder you don't understand logic.
I'm not the one who has cum running down his face. A master of logic would be able to infer the meaning and come up with a better response than that.
Why would someone who carries feminine napkins be doing that? You were clearly talking about how I ate your argument for lunch and left with c**t juices dripping down my chin.
>the one lady that doesn't seem to have an outie
who?
The lady that is being discussed in the reply chain as not having an outie.
>the one lady that doesn't seem to have an outie
who?
But the "bookends" of each 30 minute session of "waking" would create a kind of segmentation, a pattern of familiarity which would be subjectively contrasted by a singular 8 hour stretch. The important thing wouldn't be what happens between waking sessions, it's that a whole continuous 8 hours of one activity is different than a series of 30 minute iterations of another activity over and over. I'm not sure I see a plot hole. I would like to see her holes.
>stop trying to defend and justify it
Good thing I didn't do that.
>definitely an attempt to change the subject
Nope, it's all discussion on the same broad subject. You being stuck at a particular level of the discussion doesn't limit the actual relevant frame of that discussion, it just makes you just Black person dick for free, intellectually speaking.
Sure. They know when a new period of time has begun. Probably just a poor choice of word to use on their part.
Helly's revolving door thing in the stairwell shows how immediate the transition is as well, and it's only after it's explained to her that she understands what is happening. Maybe the therapist hasn't been told much about how it works.
Yeah that's gotta be it. The writers literally forgot a core element of the entire premise of the show, and no one caught the massive error in successive rewrites or filming
Isn't she revealed to be Mike's wife? That makes the whole "she has no outie" argument moot.
Mike thought-to-be-dead wife. Lumon somehow kidnapped her or something and seems to own her whole life now.
She's obviously a clone and does the sleeping beauty thing every day.
If they could grow worker clones, they would not put natural born people through severance.
The show established and demonstrated how being severed works numerous times. It never showed this on/off coma switch you think the therapist has.
There is no logical inconsistency. What I described is a plot point in the show and part of her character. The whole basement area is one of the biggest ideas for the show to explore in season 2. It imples that Michim is the same type of slave worker. You seem to understand on some level you're wrong but are still confused or just dont want to admit it. But sure you can frick off I accept your concession finally
i liked it except for the weird gay shit
>weird gay shit
I've been meaning to watch this for a while but knowing this I won't waste my time. Thanks anon.
It's minimal and largely incidental. You can just ignore it without any damage to the story. It is gross though. God gays are nasty.
The show will be a casualty of the strike. It's been too long between seasons.
The entirety of their office does bullshit jobs because their only purpose was to "employ" Helly and take some photos isn't it?
Also I don't think there needs to be a season 2
What if they just skipped straight to season 3 instead, then?
I'm okay with this, but only if they skip 2 seasons
Stiller seems like he would be cool with skipping maybe a season and a half, but 2 whole seasons seems a bit excessive.
Their job is lobotomizing themselves of negative thoughts.
>numbers make Helly feel scared
>"just sort them out you'll feel better"
The weird cult is going to turn out to be good. Main villain yet to be introduced.
i just dont see how it continues after the end of s1 in any satisfying way. i feel like this is a show that works better if it gets cancelled or never renewed, and just left up in the air
The webm of the dancing scene convinced me not to watch it.
You're missing out. The dance scene works in the context of the show
it works outside of context too it's just a funny sequence
>tfw no Helly office qt who likes you
its great
you can tell that who ever made it worked in the open space hell before
none wage cucks might not find it as funny
All right: https://youtu.be/xP7EvEMMUDo
