Just finished watching the entire Aquarion "trilogy", if you can call it that.
Still collecting my thoughts, but I also want to know yours.
What do you think?
Which entry is your favorite? Which one do you hate?

Well before anything else. It has cool robots and the original OP is great. Now that I've said the things I feel most positively about with the franchise I'll go forward.
>Genesis
A decent enough show with clear budget issues. It executed its story well enough with its cast.
>Genesis OVA
Short ova, gets the job done. However it starts laying the problems for EVOL
>EVOL
Strong start, but story shits the bed over time. The story goes out of its way with bad reveals and twists. The end result is that it retro-actively makes genesis worse because its reveals affect the way you think about characters there, especially Gen.
>Aquaion Logos
Basically, the equivalent of an AU gundam. Show runs completely independent from the other two outside of references via figures or TV sets in the screen. It plays itself more or less straight which is refreshing after evol. It's a very stay in your lane vanilla kind of show, which is not something I'll complain about. The lead hero and heroine have a brand of anime austism, but they're fine over all. The main antagonist was also pretty entertaining especially at the end.
If you're asking me to rank them.
Genesis>Logos>>>>>>Evol.
Yea, retconning that Fudo was Apollonius, instead of Aquarion itself was moronic.
the funny thing is that Gen being TAIYOU NO TSUBASA isn't a retcon since it was planned from the start. Him being someone else would have been a good retcon if a certain writer didn't persuade Kawamori to carry out that idea.
It's incredible how every time you think about the series you can point out another person's life that Fudo ruined
That doesn't make it not a retcon. It doesn't matter what the plan was, when they put something else in the show.
The original Aquarion is a 10/10 for me. Yes, I am absolutely blinded by nostalgia for it. EVOL started strong like said but I ended up liking it less as it went on. Logos I can't comment on cause I haven't watched it.
>evol
That's what I thought and I will continue to not watch it.
Also the robot itself is the closest thing you can get to modernized Getter concept that transforms "honestly", without nanomachines thingie.
Some say it's an sucessor to Getter Robo Go
It will be a trilogy when MOE comes out
Something something logos isn't Aquarion?
It's the most Aquarion.
It's an AU.
MOE is likely tied to the main series going just by its name.
It will be a quadrilogy once Myth of Emotion airs.
I feel like a lot of Logos was made to spite the bullshit in Evol's second half
I wish Logos didn't have this abhorrent character design/art style.
I easily put up with a lot of Evol's bad writing simply because it was a joy to look at.
Genesis is a pretty comfy show. Strong if basic cast of characters. Narrative is good at keeping the cast on the backfoot, antagonists are so fricking weird you never get a feel that they've run out of tricks until the very end, making aquarions legitimately insane metaphysical power set seem necessary and the casts growth earned. If I had any major complaint, its that I wish we got to spend more time with the villains. Theres a lot of great designs in there that just never get to do anything. Also it has a really good dub.
I think what upsets me about Evol the most was the fact that it had such a good strong start. I remember we were even doing gaijin reactions till we just... stopped
the way Jin and Yunoha took over the show will never not be funny
Oops! We made the supporting characters more compelling than the main ones!
>boy falls in love with girl
>she's the reincarnation from the legend
>rival character is reincarnation of the other half of legend
>large part of series is MC struggling to overcome this legend and love her for real
>wait nvm, MC and rival were split off from the same person so he's actually part of the legend too
>rival just gives up because MC tries really hard and says he loves heroine
>Yunoha born with the power of invisibility but she can't control it so everyone thinks she's a ghost and she has not friends
>She finally makes friends after opening up
>Decides to reach out to new transfer student Jin too, quickly turns to attraction but it turns out he's an enemy spy. Manage to get him to change his ways
>The moment he's redeemed he fricking dies while Yunoha is next to him
>Yunoha's power goes into overdrive, threatening to erase her from existence
>Fudo tells her to get in a grave and pretend she's dead
>Also it turns out that the ultimate reason for Jin dying was Fudo and Touma's gay drama
>Get an apology OVA where the story is basically Yunoha watching her alternate self in 1960's Japan get together with her still alive version of Jin while Yunoha just sort of sits there silent
>The penultimate scene of the Aquarion duology is Yunoha crying in her sleep
I assume at some point in this I was supposed to feel happy that she still cherishes his memory but it just makes me feel more annoyed at the Fudo twist. He feels responsible for Jin's death for maybe a millisecond
It's really annoying because Gen was a tricky character but you always sort of got he had everyone's best interests at heart even if he was a roundabout "I teach those who teach themselves" sort. Zen was just an butthole.
I understand why people don't like Evol, the big reveal is a bit of a turn off. But I still think it's better than Logos, which was just boring for the most part. Subete at the end was fun but the monster of the week parts were dull.
No, see, here's the thing. Logos started with low expectations and got better as the show went on. Evol started with high expectations and got worse. Logos had nothing going for it and made some decent and stuck the landing. Evol had everything going for it and went all Hindenburg. Evol had a pud MC with a worst girl heroine, Logos had SAVIOR KUN and dorky dumb best girl. Evol shit on something some people were fond of. Logos stood well enough alone.
>but the monster of the week parts were dull.
Counterpoint: Frick you.
I didn't like Logos at first, but it grew on me by the time I finished it.
Logos had good awful character designs and Genesis was average at best. Meanwhile Evol had the best character designs even if the story was hot wet slimy garbage. What about MoE, where will it place on the spectrum, have they released any visuals for it or a character designer?
They've only shown the recolored Solar Aquarion from the trailer/poster.
Aquarion is one of my favorite series ever and it's wild to me because I don't even think it's that good. But damn, it's just so much dumb fun. Especially partaking in the small community around it. Watching EVOL with /m/ as it was airing is one of my most cherished memories and is the most fun I've had on any board on this site. Logos was a blast too, once the series went into maximum overdrive in the second half. I hope MoE is just as fun and stupid, whether it's any good or not.
In Aquarion MoE it turns out Mikage was betrayed by Appolonius a third time, since he was actually imprisoned inside his pet goldfish Polo. At the end of the story he destroys Sven Fudo by transforming Aquarion MoE into Aquarion EMo
Genesis was the best overrall, but the movie was some weird bullshit
Evol managed to frick up every step of the way but it had some cool moments. I can't remember any specific one though.
Logos was weird but it was really fun
The genesis movie was a trip. I can say with confidence that it's the only mecha-bestiality-mpreg-abortion I've ever seen animated. I also found it funny how Scorpius basically got erased from existence or something
I don't understand the movie's ending at all. Is the earth still frozen? How did it somehow affect the TV series continuity?
It's like an alternate timeline that causes a ripple felt at the beginning of the TV show.
The first Aquarion is pretty harmless and has great music. Nice mysticism feel. The second one goes moronic with shipping and the plot in general. I haven't seen the last one.
I like Genesis, fills me with Nostalgia, it's the closest thing to a 70s anime ported to the modern times, the characters are fun and the story is decent , the OVA is average but it was just a special so it's okay
>Evol
The main cast of EVOL is insufferable, Amata is a deadpan moron and Mikono is a b***h with no personality, Kagura should've been the MC, and the whole dog thing retroactively ruined Genesis, good porn though
>Logos
Watched it halfway then dropped, too boring and the premise is pretty moronic for anyone that doesn't speak Japanese
>the premise is pretty moronic for anyone that doesn't speak Japanese
QRD?
The enemies are all based on Kanji and each have their own designs and powers tailored towards this premise, the entire show is full of puns and other things that dirty Gaijins can't really get
I liked the episode were the kanji for flame turned into little flame wars whenever anyone shit posted online.
Not-Code Geass visuals alone made it my favorite Aquarion season.
Like who the frick cares about frickdolls' personalities, when they're this hot.
Logos was massive downgrade.
Where's all the MoE news, anyway? They announced it like 6 months ago with 1 render and that's all we've gotten as far as I'm aware.
you tell me
Will Myth of Emotions be a sequel or prequel?
It'll be 12000 years later where Zessica's misery takes human form
