First aired on a service that died before it even left the dock and the first trailer killed any good will towards it

Doom Patrol debuted on the same dead service and people sought it out on Max. Titans was just shitty fruit from a rotten tree.

Swamp Thing got cancelled because they lost their tax credits
IIRC, Titans and Doom Patrol film in Toronto, Swamp Thing filmed in North Carolina and the state offered incentives for TV and movie production, that's what WB was using to fund the show, then the state voted to scrap it altogether.

Apparently Swamp Thing wasn't exactly loved by WB

Too much batwank focus, as is typically of a lot of other things.

The service isn't dead, it just got restricted to comics only when the AT&T merger happened, although even if that or the DISCO joint venture hadn't happened, the service - like many other niche streamers - would have been folded into something else.

Believe it or not, Titans actually did better than DP.

        Nope

surprisingly the first two seasons did well in terms of ratings. But it was mostly popular outside of comic fan circles.

It has less content if you look for tags on something like tumblr or reddit, and the measured social media impressions it has were also low. It never got the traction that something like Incredible or The Boys did, PAST the 'Frick Batman' stories, which hurt more than helped, in the same way the 'Batman is a Facist' lined hurt Blue Beetle as well, since audience have clearly stated they were 'surprised' at how much they liked the movie once they streamed it for free on HBO Max, etc.

DISCO will eventually license Titans (and Doom Patrol) to Tubi like the did Swamp Things but without promotion or without licensing it to someone like Prime or Netflix, it's not going to grow any interest with normies just being available on HBO Max.

i hate live-action TV versions of anything. Not only are there budget constraints for power effects, but that they also hide it behind long dialogue and normal scenes. I remember an episode where they were warped back into the old civil war days, so not only could they avoid having powers but it was a lot of virtue signaling too because slavery is bad

They did Starfirr's actress really dirty with that wig

even if it was the original that frickin hot cheeto looking wig doesn't do any justice to the John Bryne hair Starfire had.
Also making her black and her sister doesn't make sense. It implies all of Tamaran is black.

Star is actually team mom and is one of the best characters. You get used to her appearance quite quickly and they quit being as stupid with it pretty early. Please note the 'as'. She still has some really questionable wardrobes.

One of the rare cases where the black character is still based and one of the best characters. Dove is, was, and always will be best girl out of the series, but Star is second best. Then it'd probably be Raven, then Donna. Because we were fricking robbed of Donna and never got a chance for her to develop.

What's funny is they decided to go with the campy 60's Batman and leaned into that. I suppose it makes sense that he would be significantly older if Dick is in his 30's and they'd been working since Dick was 10? But they purposefully chose to make Bruce act the way he did so that he COULD come off as a creepy uncle. It's very dishonest. And in particular the scene where he has the list of kids to replace Jason Todd in the Batcomputer was not something Bruce would ever do.

Him having that list of kids was supposed to give off CP vibes. I think Carrie Kelly and Cassandra Cain were on it along with Tim.

I mean Batman being insanely negligent at best and kind of completely awful at worst is just sort of a trend on TV. I saw an episode of that old Birds of Prey show once and its premise was that Bruce, like, just disappeared off the face of the planet and left Gotham to fend for itself. In the main CW continuity, he once again just fricks off and no one knows where he is. In Titans, he's just a horrible person in general.

The one live action show since West's that was actually kind to his character was Gotham, but that show was also not good. Also its finale was kinda balls. And it placed way too much emphasis on Will Smith's wife who was playing an OC.

          Anonymous

I agree with everything except Githam not being good. Yes the finale was a rushed mess though. Rest of the show was at least a 65/100

But yes, started watching Gotham and Jesus, Fish is so goddamn boring, she does nothing except some Russian guy so far, I actually found Maroni way more entertaining, and Falcone is a way more intimidating villain.

Smallville did that shit too, I believe there was a point where even Doomsday got into the mix before Clark ever becomes Superman.

It's like if you did a Spider-Man show where Peter's not Spidey yet but there's Venom, Rhino, Doc Ock, and Kraven running around

That's what I was talking about in response
In Gotham, before there's even a Batman there's already
                >Scarecrow
                >Riddler
                >Penguin
                >Professor Pyg
                >Mad Hatter
                >Clayface
                >Bane
                >Azrael
                >Mr. Freeze
                >Poison Ivy
                >Firefly, albeit an OC version.
                >And Solomon Grundy
I can absolutely understand having a Penguin who's rising up through the ranks and the origins of say Riddler or Scarecrow but it gets asinine when almost all the well known Batman rogues are full fledged costumed villains long before there's a Batman.
Superhero prequels in general are an asinine idea

Also in that Crisis thing with Supergirl, AU Bruce went completely bonkers and murdered Superman. It's like every on-screen TV depiction of Bruce is either a psychopath or just MIA. The only exception is Gotham.

That's what i mean. Gotham Knights, Batwoman, Titans, Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League
All have Batman murder the Joker. Because the people who constantly ask "why doesn't batman just kill the Joker" don't understand comics and now they are the ones in charge. Batman in the Snyderverse was a murderer too but Joker was only alive because he was hiding apparently. These people man... These people.

This is exactly what happens every time because these writers are lazy as hell and would rather do edgy fanfic than try and tell a story worth anything.

It's people like that who're the reason we have Star Trek with straight up gore now, why every character swears like a goddamn sailor even in scenes where it's not needed but do anyway, like Cowboy Bebop live action.

And these entitled c**ts went on to whine about how they should be entitled to more money for what they're actually worth. It's sickening

Mid Season 3 was where i dropped it. Not only was Scarecrow not at all like the scarecrow in any adaptation, not only did the Blackfire side plot make no sense, not only was the Raven using Lazarus Pit to revive Donna Troy boring the shit out of me, but the inclusion of Tim Drake as a literal Black person homosexual was an unabashed act of hostility. Keep in mind I was already letting them slide with with chink beast boy and black starfire. But there has to be a breaking point.

Also. Speaking of diversity. They decided to go the extra mile by having Barbara Gordon lose one whole leg instead of the use of her spine. And at that point I knew these people were fricking moronic. In a world of robot men and cyborgs you mean to say this b***h couldn't get a prosthetic leg? And it's even funnier because they had to film scenes from before she lost it and the actress (who actually is missing a leg) just used a prostethic for those! So why the frick is she sitting on her ass? Because she hates Bruce? b***h, red hood is gassing the fricking the city with fear toxin. Please do something useful instead of tapping away on the computer.

BY. THE. WAY. This is the FIFTH adaptation where Bruce kills the Joker. And this time it's done so casually that it's almost psychopathic. Bruce kills the Joker after he kills Jason Todd and then "blows himself up". Which is fake because we see him alive and well later. So he just gets away with it? Frick this Batman hate. I understand in real life Joker would be dead but I don't give a shit. Either do the Death in the Family or don't.

Bottom line is there was too much going on, too many characters (to the point where they had to start bumping some off) and the adaptations of certain things were dogshit.
