    What's his worst film?

      Anonymous

      A Dirty Shame shame probably.
But also I am actually not a fan of his early transgressive period. With the exception of Mondo Trasho, which was good, they're surprisingly dull and I would even say boring, despite the seeming outlandishness.

Nah they reward repeated viewings after the novelty wears off. Little things like Edith Massey wailing “oh god” while she’s pining for the egg man

          Anonymous

          Maybe I'll rewatch them sometime.
I really liked Mondo Trasho tho. Maybe it's just the low quality and black and white film stock but there was something stylish to it. While his colour films felt like they're were just kinda fricking around Mondo Trasho was funny but also with a somewhat dark atmosphere I guess? Like, Water's transgressiveness I view as a way gay and trans and other "queer" people coped with the somewhat repressive existence in the time, even if it wasn't a thematic intention. And Mondo Trasho really translates that feeling of both fun but also danger and some sadness. I think it's a testament to film being a visual medium. This subject matter being treated in black and white adds many more emotional layers to it.

Reminder that he jerked off to drawings someone sent him of alvin the chipmunk naked and then was in a chipmunk movie where alvin says he saw pink flamingos

Are there any other based gay directors like him?

If similar as in "makes films ina similar vein" I'd say Bruce La Bruce, although he is a bit more serious, not as accessible.
If you mean similar as in makes good movies in general without social preaching there are a lot of good gay directors although a lot are hard to recommend because they're more to the art side of things. Gregg Araki is good from more accessible ones.

I mean truly transgressive comedy directors that are actually funny and radically campy and transgressive instead of wanting to make a 90 minute political ad for corporate globohomo.

Waters did the kind of thing only one person could get away with but oftentimes gay directors are allowed to be bigger misogynists. Also stuff by straight men that belongs to the gay canon like What Ever Happened to Baby Jane can be funny in a similar way

      fassbinder

I wanted to mention him, but he is hard to recommend. Fassbinder is like a punk version of Visconti. He was quite a genius but also most of his films are very hard to watch. He's also more sad and depressing than campy.

could you share some of your political beliefs?

liberal at heart but i think avoiding conservatism is like avoiding a meteor on it's way to Earth, i think majority of "common people" are conservative even if social pressure makes them act liberal and I think there's obviously a very conservative wave coming
Conservative beliefs are much more lasting too overall. Of course nothing is eternal, but even if there will be another circle back to liberalism in the future it will be very short (just like current liberal wave)
Also I have a schizo theory that monarchy and it's forms are ingrained into humans genetically, and that we were just capable of tricking ourselves into thinking that some other types of sociopolitical organization is possible, I believe we technically still live in a system similar to monarchy (true for all countries) but it's warped in various ways and this is why everything is so unstable everywhere, but maybe i need meds or something

is your dick the same color as the rest of your skin

It's like half a shade darker i think

Can you tell from his movies that he's a gay?

      Yeah

I mean truly transgressive comedy directors that are actually funny and radically campy and transgressive instead of wanting to make a 90 minute political ad for corporate globohomo.

I mean, in the end of the day any transgression can be called "ad for globohomo" even if they were not intended as such. Gregg Araki is not as outlandish but I think he qualifies. He has more serious stuff like Mysterious Skin which I am not a fan of, but DOOM Generation, Nowhere, Splendor are very good. I also like Ka Boom. Bruce La Bruce too, but he is a bit more serious in tone and more "artsy" I guess. To the more artsy side of things also Bertrand Mandico. But he is not as outlandishly transgressive as Waters or Bruce La Bruce.

        >Also I have a schizo theory that monarchy and it's forms are ingrained into humans genetically, and that we were just capable of tricking ourselves into thinking that some other types of sociopolitical organization is possible,
I think this is true but very smart and well instructed people can overcome their natural instincts. That is when you get successful democracies (ancient Greece, America, etc) but then democracies inevitably devolve and the people become stupid and the whole thing collapses. They are unnatural and can only be maintained by high quality and high consciousness people.

Imo monarchies can only be sustained by high quality individuals on top. Once the power is in the hands of morons everything collapses pretty fast. Democracies on the other hand, especially the ones you mentioned, are designed to be moron-proof in the sense that no matter how shitty things get, the system somehow keeps going. That is why people tend to have a fondness for monarchs. Usually when a monarch remains in power, things are good and when things aren't good the monarch goes. But in democracies it's an endless state of mediocrity.

BTW Araki and Bruce La Bruce both wish they were smart enough to be John Waters, that 90s kind of thing feels like a direct precursor to the gay liberal sentimentality of today. The best Araki movies are the ones written by other people

    based on his own novel
