just realised the other day that I have consumed absolutely no media whatsoever for the last 3 years except youtube essays ABOUT media. instead of watching movies or play vidya, I just watch someone on YouTube sum it all up for me with a 3 hour analysis instead of just watching it and forming my own opinion. why am I like this?

      Reduced attention span from iphone

Absolute subhuman behavior. Fix this, just put on a movie doesn't matter if you're bored or don't like it, don't treat it as a big deal. Just instead of the time you were going to watch youtube put on a movie, you will experience a lot of great things this way.
maybe eventually if you attention span recuperates you can open a book. I believe in you.

You couldn't make it two sentences into the OP and you're accusing others of having no attention span?

I put them above ecelebs, because at least there is something creative happening.

Frick you. There’s nothing creative about it. Okay I’m coping because there’s this male YouTuber from the 2000s-2013 era I’m embarrassingly in love with, but even if I weren’t, vtubers still aren’t creative.

    Based.
I can't watch media anymore. It's so predictable or shitty that I just want someone to filter it for me.

I'm not even being ironic. It's just that shows suck shit. I'm sick of even talking about them to be honest. My attention span is fine and I can sit through classes easily. It's not that.

have you tried looking for better movies and shows?

Yes that usually involves going to older stuff. I feel I've emptied that mine, though.

let me guess, you went all the way back to 85 and then decided there were no more good movies

The internet can mold you into anything you let yourself be molded, moron.
        >The internet makes you stupid
So the internet made you enter a search? It's the same thing as with 'Guns don't kill people, people do'. The internet is there as a tool. The most fantastic tool to ever be at our disposal when it comes to being able to change your whole world. Should you chose to do so. If it turns you into a moronic gooner, that's on you.

Living vicariously through others. Media isn't geared towards us anymore. We can go and explore foreign cinema, or old movies. The lazy man's option is watching different viewpoints on media you've already consumed. It gives you a glimmer on how you reacted the first time you experienced something. It's like chasing the dragon. It postpones the reamization that we are becoming irrelevant. It's like 'Trainspotting 2' said: We are tourists in our own youth. Internet has made the past accesible, anywhere, anytime. A small part of what movies are, is playing to that emotion.

Look at it this way. For most of history you would have been just one of the masses waiting for either the priests of your religion or a king to to tell you what to believe. You simply have the serf mindset.

Whether you think mental illness is a meme or not I can't do ANYTHING because my happiness receptors don't work properly.

No matter how interested I am in something I can't engage with it for longer than few minutes or I get an unbearable headache and itch all over my body. I need to distract myself even if it's with empty information that I don't care about. I spent months on Cinemaphile- the car board for example even though I have no license and can't afford a car lol. I have a lot of books I bought on topics that GENUINELY interest me that I still haven't read in years. I feel so empty. I want to live and enjoy life because there is an endless amount of things to learn and skills to master but my brain is just too fricked.

You're beefing up your media literacy by doing this OP. The next time you do watch a movie or show you're gonna be the subject matter expert with your knowledge.

i relate to this so much, recently i saw some old friends (old as in the only ones, cause i did not make a single new friendship after 21) and they were referencing videos and memes and celebrities and trends and couldn't stop asking 'whats that' or 'who is this?' over and over, because I'm culturally dislocated from mainstream media in such a deep level, that i honestly can no longer talk to people.

like, im not trying to sound different, i would love to know how to participate in this ever so changing sea of new content that social media keeps bombarding people with, but i just dont.

i keep the same 4-5 interests and hobbies, focus on work, and live my life. how can that not be enough? like, thats already a lot of work to do, and still need to adapt to modern media? I dont get it.

      >i keep the same 4-5 interests and hobbies, focus on work, and live my life. how can that not be enough?

That's all you need. Internet is there to have a look at where society is at. Don't worry about what others think. Worry about who you are, as a person.

I treat other people as I would like to be treated myself. That's all you ever need, really. The world can go up in flames. I know I'll be able to stand toe to toe with my God and challenge him if he dares to give me shit.
