Its garbage but its soulful. John Carpenter makes movies because he wants to put out the things that come from his tormented schizo mind, without the need to please anybody but himself
I didn't realize how much of a love letter it is to hong kong martial arts "wuxia" movies until recently. I thought its references were only on a dumb american surface level but it's actually very well thought out and carefully crafted as a homage to those movies.
I was watching the reaction channel Cinebinge and one of the reactors is a Chinese immigrant to Canada. He was pointing out all of the wuxia references and really blown away by how good it was.
It's absolutely kino, it's the sorta film that you would expect to be crap but is just the exact opposite, it leans into its campy insanity and pulls it off perfectly
The only thing I don't understand is green eyes are extremely uncommon if not impossible for pure Asians with makes sense as to why Lo Pan struggled.
But like, he's obviously been in america for a long time, why didn't it occur to him to just find a white piggu with green eyes sooner if that could always work?
It's a poor man's Bhudda's Palm or Zu Warriors. It's pretty good, but sadly kinda fails on the fights front. Luckily, it had Kurt Russel at his prime honking the pork chop express, so it gets a pass.
It's a lot of fun and we like it
redditors
>trying this hard to fit in
we need a new Cinemaphile just for zoomies so they cant stop shitting up the entire internet
Carpenter makes Kino
It had the best music Carpenter ever composed

>Its garbage
Frick you. The movie is damn near perfect.
Pure kino.
it's garbage. I may have liked it if I watched it as a kid in the 80's though.
Comfy movie.
It's a lot of fun and a very unique movie. What parts did you like, op?
>Just wasted my time
sorry to hear that.
Liked it. A lot.
One of the greatest wuxia ever made, a remarkable feat considering that it's a western movie.
>What’s that?
>Black Blood of the Earth.
>Oh, you mean oil.
>No … I mean Black Blood of the Earth!
Is there an actual Chinese legend about this or was this some random shit from Carpenter's shizo mind?
What was his problem?
Inflation fetishist.
Or that of the screenwriters
Hehehe!
Too emotional. After his buddies died, he got so angry, he exploded. Quite a common trope. Rumpelstiltskin did it too.
Kim Cattrell was prime meat. Totally understandable why they would want that white Nubian princess

Yeah me too lol
Made me appreciate the movie much more

>white piggu
Probably a treat when he needed the meal.
Fun movie
Good film.

>a poor man's dog turd
Ok buddy.
it's sick, and every asian bro I have agrees
one of the funnest, most quotable films ever
